Somais love to be contrarians. Somalia is approaching escape velocity and you still find some people trying to slow things down.

The disturbing clause in the new Somali constitution;
Homunculus replied to Suldaanka's topic in Politics
Please enlighten us Suldaanka, is it missing something? -
I've never been to Hadaaftimo, but my family is from there.

Shabeel North Well A Success. Oil Found. The Haters Are Devastated
Homunculus replied to Dr_Osman's topic in Politics
Oil in Puntland is a harbinger of good things for all Somalia. South Somalia will have great reservoirs of oil in the Somali basin, and Somaliland shows great promise as an oil producing region. -
Duke's prediction for President of Somalia 2012...
Homunculus replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
The president will come from the south. Southern Somalia is still unstable and infested with Al shabab, a president from hopefully will give them incentives to shape up and secure their region. -

I'm actually not worried about religious diversity, I'm worried of religious fanaticism imported from Saudi Arabia. Al Shabab and Al Qaeda are a cancer that will destroy any civilization that we could possibly have in this country, they will keep the girls locked up and uneducated and censor any new ideas from our education system.

If I was a Somali christian I'd have ran out of there in a New York minute. Somalia is "NOT" a welcoming place for religious diversity.

Prime Minister Abdiweli Gaas Refutes Monitoring Report
Homunculus replied to Somalia's topic in Politics
They should retract that part where they made those allegations, but the rest of the report is far more damaging. This confirm the general opinion that most TFG politicians are a bunch of thieves and Somalia will remain at the bottom of corruption rankings for a long time. -
I don't see the "politics" in this.

Haad adds that the elders are particularly concerned about a draft constitution, written in consultation with the United Nations. In a previous VOA interview he said that elders take issue with sections granting women the right to run for high office and that the draft does not specify a capital city. Unfortunately a lot of people believe in this. I lived in the middle east most of my life and I've a feeling women in Somalia will have it worse than their sisters in Saudi Arabia.

Is Puntland A Nation Or A Regional Administration?

This is a worthless thread but I would like to congratulate Somaliland for having taxis. There is nothing more indicative of civilization than having other people drive you (i.e. Faroole). It's really a shame that we have a guy who worked for a living and used his money to go to school as a president of Puntland.

And people wonder why Somalilanders want a separate country (not that I condone it).

Daring to dream in the midst of a depressive Somali politics
Homunculus replied to xiinfaniin's topic in Politics
The laziness and corruption in the Somali government is holding this country hostage. The squabble over trivialities like the capital or borders will result in mini states like Somaliland and Puntland and many others to form their own countries. This line "well-armed men some linked to the TFG’s forces are now gang raping women and children on a full time basis" is a reminder that this country has devolved into such a state that it will require generations to remove this barbarity. -
As August Deadlines Nears, Somalis Are Poised to Meet it.
Homunculus replied to xiinfaniin's topic in Politics
It's really ironic that a Somali is concerned about citizenship and naturalization in Somalia. -

How can people be worried about borders for a failed country? There are more grave matters to be concerned about. Maybe if the country succeeds in 10 or 20 years the people of those Somali provinces will have the initiative to rejoin ( though that would destabilize the region). -

I'm cautiously optimistic. This our last chance for a united country, if this fails I can see other regions vying for independence. -
