Beggars can't be choosers. I might be disconnected from the geopolitical pulse in the horn of Africa but Somalia is falling behind in all aspects and I don't think the prosperity of our neighbours will make things worse at least in the short term. I might be naive but if Somalis get their collective behinds together and have a modicum of a functioning country I wouldn't mind if Ethiopia and Kenya are prospering too.

I support the formation of the state of Jubaland, but this shuttling to foreign countries doesn't sit well with me. I know that the SFG is obstinate and seem obsessed in their opposition but I'd rather Somalis find a way to figure things out between themselves no matter how long it takes.

Seems like a reasonable plan. The problem with Somalis is the "My way or the Highway" mentality, the president should extend the hand of peace towards Jubaland and start focusing on the real enemy.

A peace agreement with Al shabaab when they are at their last throes is a sign of weakness. Godane the terrorist and the killer of hundreds of thousands should be targeted and killed. I hope to God that he and all who shelter him are destroyed.

Rape is a big problem in all of Somalia, since the civil war there was a degradation of the Somali psyche. Rape by militia men in the South or by SNM forces heading east in the early 90s.

Somalis in general are emotional, the craziness that's always happening in every successive somali government and recently in Jubaland are all evident to that. The civil war was an emotional rollercoaster and every word will analyzed to death and there is no escaping it.

Mario, I agree that Somalia can't survive if that states act like they are their own country but patience is the only option now.As the government grow stronger integration will happen eventually and the states will cede powers back. Remember that many federal states started that way.

This is a little bit Machiavellian. I don't think the government did it, but you can say that people with ingrained interest that is aligned with the government are supporting this farce.

I agree that Madoobe (to a lesser degree) is a warlord but - as an outsider- I see his chances in forming a government down there is much higher, he has the power and the arms, Hiiraale just arrived couple of weeks ago on a false pretense. The situation will devolve unfortunately, and the people there will be the biggest losers.

People are being ruled by emotions here, that region is a wasteland due to the continuous battles between subclans and some of the posters here (Gabbal, Dabrow, etc...) would rather have the house burning than see saner heads prevail. hiiraale can say whatever he wants but he doesn't have the power to oppose Madoobe, Madoobe is already appointing his administration and that's where he can consolidate his power. I expect all this consternation to fizzle away soon.
