Genel decides risk is worth it searching for oil in Somaliland
Homunculus replied to Xaaji Xunjuf's topic in Politics
Why do Somali's award blocks the size of countries? Those blocks are huge, and the Genel block intersects with the one in puntland, I don't see anything good coming from it at least initially. Somaliland better start with the oodweyne block. -

What is the use putting a link when it's behind a paywall.Good luck, aren't they drilling in the same basin as the one in Puntland (Nugal basin)? -

But... but... Kismayo is the biggest problem this government must solve. You finally took your blinders off and realized that the officials in this government are all about lining up their pockets. I wanted this president to succeed so bad that now I'm reconsidering my stance on everything. The Somali experiment might be a failure.

Admittedly Somaliland is doing a better job trying to integrate Sool (I mean bribing) than Eastern Sanaag. It doesn't help that the SFG threw them under the bus and refused to acknowledge their existence. God.... I don't want to call myself a Somalilander, what a stup1d name.

I like those round numbers (600), why not 583 or 616. if it's true these guys want free money and if they don't get it then they will defect back as usual. I no longer trust Somali loyalties.

Abdi Waal has admitted in closed-door meetings that he is acting as an agent for the Eritrean government (Reuters) - Eritrea is undermining stability in conflict-ravaged Somalia by paying political agents and a warlord linked to Islamist militants to influence the Mogadishu government, U.N. sanctions experts said in a confidential report. The Eritrean government has long denied playing any negative role in Somalia, saying it has no links to Islamist al Shabaab militants fighting to overthrow the Somali government. It says the U.N. sanctions imposed on it in 2009 for supporting al Shabaab were based on lies and has called for the sanctions to be lifted. The latest annual report by the U.N. Monitoring Group on Somalia and Eritrea to the Security Council's Somalia/Eritrea sanctions committee casts fresh doubt on Asmara's denials, undermining its case for lifting the sanctions against it. "The Monitoring Group has received numerous reports about the warming of relations between Asmara and Mogadishu, and has obtained evidence of Asmara's control of political agents close to the Somali presidency and some of the individual spoilers," the group said in the report, seen by Reuters. Link A car has exploded inside the main market in the Somali capital after a hand grenade was thrown into the vehicle, police have told the BBC. It was carrying police officials, four of whom were wounded, he said. It happened during one of the busiest shopping days, on the eve of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. No group has said it carried out the blast but al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabab has staged many attacks in Mogadishu since being driven out of the city in 2011.

Deero Mall officially opened in Hargeysa, capital of Somaliland

Nice looking building, but again this should not be in the politics section. -
i think it's good for Somalia as a whole to have a prosperous Mogadishu, Turkey is thinking ahead since there will be a quid pro quo.

A report due to be submitted to the UN Security Council by independent experts says the government used rival militia leaders to gain control of Kismayo, the second city. The report alleges that Mr Mohamud, who gets a lot of cash from Western governments, has been “co-opting clan warlords”, some of them linked to the Shabab. This is dangerous for the government since the security council will discuss this issue soon. this president is destroying all the gains that were made recently, we are now more divided than when the ICU ruled Mogadishu.

Goodness gracious.... What are those evil Khatumites scheming now? They already ruined Mogadishu, are they planning to destroy Kismayo too? We have to join Saalax and condemn them to the utmost degree. -

Link Money at the Central Bank of Somalia is not used to run government institutions in the war-torn Horn of Africa country, with an average 80 percent of withdrawals made for private purposes, according to a U.N. report seen by Reuters on Monday. The confidential report by the U.N. Group of Experts to the Security Council's Somalia and Eritrea sanctions committee blamed a patronage system - dubbed the "khaki envelope" practice after the color of the stationery carried to the Ministry of Finance - for preventing the creation of state institutions. I thought that this president was elected to fix this.

Their chosen warrior just joined Al Shabaab, the SFG couldn't mishandle the situation worse than it did.
