Talking down to the consumers isn't the way to go.

These Wahhabi scholars, whether Somali or not are transforming the religion into something else. Yeah, but what about sharks? They eat people sometimes, are they halal or haram? I think what Umal was aiming at was that in such dire times, a lot of what was haram becomes halal for people (pigs, alcohol etc). Also from that interview he said that the hyenas were a different kind then the ones found in Somalia.
  4. There's an upcoming documentary titled Through the Fire: Rebuilding Somalia and another one titled, No Problem: A Somali Message to the American People Has there ever been a documentary post 1990 written and directed by Somalis? I love this thread idea by the way!
  5. Also there's an interesting documentary coming out soon called No Problem: A Somali Message to the American People. Be on the look out for it Here's an extended trailer " frameborder="0" allowfullscreen> I must say they got good footage. Love the camera and style they're using. I wish Somali producers could do the same. One day hopefully ...
  6. Awesome pictures manshallah. From The Economist Signs of reconstruction abound. Parts of the city are cocooned in wooden scaffolding. Many off the buildings on the main Maka al-Mukarram avenue leading to parliament boast fresh concrete and loud new colours, with pink a favourite. Metal posts along main roads, paid for with Norwegian aid, are awaiting new solar panels and lights. Mogadishu’s mayor, Mohamed Nur, says they will be switched on before the end of the month. On his next visit Mr Carson ought to see the city’s Lido beach. Long a no-go area, it now draws big crowds after Friday prayers. The sand and surf are filled with people. Girls in full dress splash about next to boys who have put down their guns to learn to swim. May we continue on this path of progress inshallah.
  7. How come my posts don't show up on the thread? They mysteriously disappear through the interwebs. Waa iska xaal aduunyo

These are more sinister and sometimes even more dangerous because they are spoiling and poisoning the minds of the Somali people either through websites or through writings or any kind of…. sophisticated ways of tilting , misguiding, misinforming, caricaturing, masquerading as freedom of expression sometimes but actually they are in disguise, trying to spoil the peace process. These are four categories, they are no watertight, some of them can be found across the categories…. I came to the same conclusion as well. And quite possibly Prof. Abdi Ismail Samatar with that critical opinion piece.
