Israel is more densely packed and even more barren than Somalia, Japan is another nation that has little in the way of natural resources. Why are Africans and middle easterners always under the illusion that natural resources are their only ticket to prosperity. Hardship and necessity is the mother of all innovations, but that rule only applies outside the dark continent for some reason.
  2. Can't believe I laughed. I feel like a butthole.

Few years ago it was also proven by medical scientists that male circumcision is an effective method of controlling the spread of HIV. When combined with death by stoning, it's a great way of halting the spread of HIV. Probably the only good Al-Shabaab and the like have done for Somalia,

Indeed, the two wells dug in Puntland this year are looking like duds (still waiting for a hail mary). If he's talking offshore,, it could be a trillion barrels or 3 mL. Heck it could be Natural Gas for all we know.

It's no different than accounting for time dilation in GPS satellites. The only limitation in space exploration is money, and there was no shortage of that during the Cold War.
  6. Agreed, there are much deeper problems to attend to in Somalia. Can anyone even fathom how many developmentally challenged children that have to be dealt with in the future? The effects of the famine on the populace will be felt for generations.
  7. Well, he's not posting anymore, so I assume so. Why do zealots think losing a debate is against forum policy?

Not really, those who make mention of us in every other thread and debate whether our heads should remain on our shoulders are full of drama. This 'drama' is what led to a member being banned here, for his audacity in holding a differing opinion.

Reminds me of this guy i use to know who really believed in his heart he was ARAB.....but if you looked at him, he looked like your typical MADOW. Each to their own i guess. Another funny thing is the fact that Somalis have the least Arab admixture of all of the horn populations (Amhara, Oromo, Afar etc,). Yet Somalis claim Arab lineages more ardently than the other groups (and we don't even speak a Semitic language for that matter).
  10. Nice to see the Turks aren't taking any sides and have made themselves approachable to all.

The Majority of Muslims in Somalia want to base their countries constitution on their holly Quran . What is the fuss about that i ask? Again, how is that any different than what Al-Shabaab wants? Also, if the majority of Somalis want sharia law instated in a country where millions lack food security, then I'd say there really is no future for our country.
  12. I have no problem calling myself African or black, but I've never understood the whole 'white' or 'black' groupings we place on people. We have absolutely no shared history with South Africans, genetic or cultural. In fact, we're closer genetically to Spaniards and Armenians than we are to the Mbuti, Khoi or San. This goes for other groups as well. A Spaniard will have more in common with North Africans then he does with Russians.

No issue? Yet Al-Shabaab feels the need to bomb sharia law in to the hearts and minds of others. Before all of the apologists claim Al-shabaab are unislamic, ask yourself why? How are your beliefs any different?

Case in point being the idea of the nucleus family. Yes, Morals and values do tend to change over time, but they don't have to. I personally think a nuclear family is healthier in most cases (not essential though). I don't hold this value based only on the past experiences of others (religious scripture, societal norms, parental advice etc.) but also on my observations. My preference for the idea of a nuclear family doesn't come bundled together with other values as it does with the religious.
  15. You do know that they haven't tested any fluids from the first well right? And that it may very well be water as the well is only 3.5 Km away. Then again there could special circumstances surrounding the wells (faulting etc.). I'm hoping for the best as I've invested in HRN, but you're being delusional if you'd call the drill campaign a success.
  16. Yeah, countless children have had to skip their childhood and protect their families.
  17. Maybe we can pay them back with brackish groundwater
  18. So we'll have two states with a Germanic suffix (-land)?
  19. Here is an update from a reliable source at the drill site (he has leaked information days before public releases in the past). This is a response to a question from someone on a forum: EITS responded to my post on WS: Hi Charlie, I said that I would update the board when I had more information so here you go: 1. Yes the well has recommenced drilling. We were approx 2060m earlier today. 2. There have been a lot more oil shows between 1970m and 2060m and these shows have much better gas shows alongside them. The issue with the first test was the localised seal and this may be an issue with the next test too but there can still be a trap/seal further down and this is what is being looked for. Also, the higher gas does make it interesting & for S1 too. 3. Expectations are unchanged (ie good). It is always a disappointment when a flow test fails but it is a long way from meaning that the whole well is a disaster and everyone gets on with their job hoping for a better result next time. People are certainly not just going through the motions. All - please remember that this is just an update for your information. The drill goes on an it is by no means a sure thing that the well is dry but htere are also no guarantees of finding oil. Please note: This is not investment advice and should not be treated as such. If you don't want to read what I have to say then simply put me on ignore.

There's still 500m to go, it's rather unlikely that oil will be found based on the geography. Then again, these numb nuts have demonstrated that they have little understanding of what they're drilling, maybe we'll find a seal at lower depths. It's anyone's guess at this point, this entire drilling campaign has been rotten from the start.
  21. LANDER;852680 wrote: Not a good time for oil exploration, I feel we still have to strenghten our instititutions before we can have any hope managing any potential oil revenues responsibly. You're right, I think it'll be a few years before we even find considerable amounts of oil. There are plenty of other natural resources in Somalia that no one focuses on, mainly the young population. We could create a great manufacturing base with the right social and economic investments.

  23. Perhaps, this company has been shady from the get go, but water in Somalia is hardly news. Heck, Nugaal is known for it's large groundwater supplies and springs. This is odd though, everyone knows that oil is normally found above water, unless the oil is sealed away at lower depths.
