Wadani;909265 wrote: Irreligious as in believers who do not practise, or as in non-believers? They consider themselves to be 'cultural-Muslims'. They'll attend family functions such as weddings and eid celebrations (as do I). I wonder if it's a genetic thing as it's all on my father's side of tree, which is where I can also find the the not-too-distant Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

That's a good question, especially for those in the diaspora. Besides crashing weddings and exchanging awkward glances in public, what ties us together?

I've never understood the fuss over performance enhancing substances. Developed nations already have advantages in terms of training environments and equipment. If people can push their bodies further, why should they be barred from doing so?

I guess the bio teacher told you also it was impossible for Jesus (AS) not to have a father; yet they have believe life started when a parentless single cell popped into life in its own. They also told you it's impossible for Adam (AS) to have been created from clay , yet you've swallowed the theories that claim life started in some muddy primordial soup, right? Wouldn't being made from clay imply that we are a silicon-based life form?

I am no longer engaged in a celestial war of good vs evil, no longer burdened with imaginary gods of any kind, no invisible angels spying on me, no big bearded loser dictating to me what to say or think, no longer kneel to a black stone in Arabia five times a day like a mental defect, no longer consider Arabs my kin. I don't think gods are real but in the event that they are I'd thank them for making me leave the mental prison of religiosity. Best wishes to all. Good to see more of us coming out of the woodwork Although I think you're focusing a bit too much on the issue of Islam being Arab-centric. None the less, our ranks are flowering quite nicely. -

mahadcaday;907158 wrote: My "unnecessary baggage" starts with the beginning of mankind. Judaism absorbed the cultural practises of several pagan religions. As did Christianity with it's unoriginal tale of a virgin birth and resurrection and in turn Islam followed after them with a pagan Arab twist. So you're perfectly right to say that your baggage begins with the beginning of mankind and it's quest to answer questions using superstition. mahadcaday;907158 wrote: Yours started when things didn't go your way. True, I didn't like the response I got when I would ask questions as a young teenager. mahadcaday;907158 wrote: Btw Toronto has so many masjids why don't you preach your garbage their instead of here. I don't initiate religious debates, I chime in when I see something interesting or respond to the questions of others. Considering the punishment in Islam for those who attempt to proselytize Muslims, I don't think I'll recieve a warm welcome at the masjids. If I had some lofty goal of 'converting' Muslims, I would realize that I, like many other reverts, was not recruited in anyway and it's an entirely passive response to the dogma espoused by Imams and other religous leaders. So it would be in the interest of those goals to not interfere.

20-Year-Old Quits College, Starts ‘Uncollege’ Movement
GaraadMon replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in General
Both employers and parents have mandated that getting a degree is essential to success. The number of psychology/sociology graduates working at my old IT firm was nauseating. How a degree is necessary for programming is still a mystery to me. -

Why is it any concern to you what a muslim believes. Quite frankly I don't give what an atheists thinks. Same goes for you. It must be terrible to continually carry 2000+ years of unnecessary baggage.

Haatu;907047 wrote: "Religion (Islam) is not based on logic. If it were, we would wipe underneath the socks instead of on top during mashah (the alternative to washing the feet during ablution)" Ali bin Abi Talib We are muslims. We have believed and surrendered our will to Allah and we accept without questioning. This is what Islam is. Your post should be directed towards the countless Facebook pages who attempt to ascribe tangible evidence to the Quran. We all know that physical evidence is governed by laws which can be logically deduced through observation. Yet they cry foul when logic is applied in the interpretation of scripture.

You know, important stories. +1 The laissez faire attitude towards rape on this board is disturbing. It's always brushed off as being 'non-Somali' as if our culture makes Somalia immune to many of issues faced by societies lacking law and order.
