If you're a petroleum/chemical/geological engineer you're best bet is to head over to Alberta, Sasketchewan or Northern Ontario as they are resource intensive and starving for engineers. A word of caution though as the engineering proffesion is rather restrictive in Canada in comparison to the United States. If your in the trades then you're pretty much set. There is a huge shortage of welders, machinists, millwrights etc. in Canada and tens of thousands of migrants (primarily from the Phillipines) every year come here to fill it.

I don't think there are clan looks, but there may be some regional differentiation. The only noticeable differences will occur if you compare groups from polar ends of the country, as can be expected in any nation. I think the biggest difference will be between pastoralists and earlier city dwellers as culture can have a large effect on what traits we select in our partners.

Why do all these studies make it appear as if the Somali diaspora is unique? There are countless other groups who have fled civil war and are now flourishing here. The Hmong are an excellent example as their community in Canada was riddled with crime and unemployment but they've turned it around in the last 20 years. We don't exist in a vacuum and the benefits of that is that we can observe the successes and failures of other communities in Canada. I guess there is cause for celebration as we no longer have the lowest graduation rates in Toronto, Spanish-speaking students do: TDSB 2011 Cohorts
