Alpha, why don't you told us how it is done in Somaliland. you guy have progressed at a much faster rate. maybe we can learn from you

  3. The original intents of this discussion was not to discuss if a non-muslim should or should not be Prime Minister. Rather, what were the original intents/implications/agenda of making the distinction for the requirements of the President and Prime Minister-- The President MUST be muslim whereas the dastuur does not state this requirement for the Prime Minister.

  5. Daqane, I thought you were in Mogadisu, no? If so would you not be more suited to provide us such prices
  6. Haatu, Somalia once had the same program quite some time ago during the Barre regime. This was a compulsory national service requirement in which graduates were sent to villages, as you mentioned, to teach. This is one of the reasons why the literacy rate in Somalia sky rocketed during that era. My father, my uncles, all took part in the program. Those who took part of the program, if I recall correctly, were sent to areas that were not necessarily associated with their clan, to further dispel the notion of clanism. Maryam Qasim, the minister of social development, is currently working on a spin-off of the original program, which will more so focus on Diaspora to come back and teach. This is part of her Go to School initiative, which has the goal of providing 1,000,000 Somalis access to education by September.

  9. Being "nomads" is something we take great pride in as Somalis. Though it appears it is a lifestyle and culture that is slowly coming to an end as we emulate this "reer magaal" lifestyle. Perhaps it is in Somalia's best interest to reinstate this nomadic culture as it is an integral part of the Somali identity. I am hereby proposing a national service program geared towards requiring city dwellers to serve 1-2 as a true Nomad. The participant shall be provided with a geel and sent to a certain region, very similar to the national service teaching program. One of the outcomes of this program is to eliminate this social stratification of "reer magaal" and "reer miyi" and place people on a similar social status. Thoughts? Additions? Criticisms? Please share
  10. I am quite disheartened by the lack of intellectual discussion. I hear by put this thread to rest *Insert Law and Order Theme DON DON*
  11. Somali livestock is being exported from the Mogadishu port for the first time in quite a while in high numbers! I wonder how that will affect the local market of livestock. Any nomadic (Nomad+economic) speculations?

  13. I have been informed it is currently "rain" season which has led to inflated prices on livestock. Caution: Do not purchase livestock at this time. *Wadani do take note of this

  17. Oba I take it you were not able to find me my dream home in merka.
  18. Lets make this clear before we deviate from the topic, The somali government is the Somalia that falls on the map, Somaliland falls under that as in the current government is the face of Somalia and Somaliland on the international spectrum. Nevertheless, you are indeed right in pointing out this micro Somali entities. Though, this is a distorted perception. The current Somali government encompasses hundreds of tribes and is not microscopic at all in fact it is in attempts at seeking union with the north. Similar, somaliland is an absorption of various micro peoples such as various the Khatumo people. .
  19. Now the question is Xaaji do we continue this artificial Somali national identity or do we return to our microscopic society
  20. The question is why do we wanted to be united? Is this proposal of unity even authentic in nature? Or is a western import?

Oh Alpha, don't you remember. I was exiled from this ghost-town after my failed attempt to oust you from your seat. It seems that online characters tend to be stagnant spirits and posses very little revolutionary attributes. I now sit at my local coffee shop as I am now able to partake in Fadhi ku dirir given that I finally have my own war stories to share. Let me ask you Alpha, how are the Hargeisa chicks. I, to my misfortune, visited Hargeisa during Ramadan and thus was forced to lower my gaze due to cultural pressures and thereby not able to make a conclusive study. If your reviews are favorable perhaps you can send a couple my way as war reparations
  22. For much of my life I have been a Somali irredentist if you'd like to call it. I was a believer of a greater Somalia, a unified government, and Somali nationalism. Though now I am beginning to realize this "nationalism" is perhaps a western construct as we Somalis were never united. This idea of a unified state is an imported system as we have traditionally been a decentralized people. Have I, the SYL, and other nationalist fall victim to a western paradigm? Is perhaps true Somali nationalism accepting our nature, staying true to ourselves, forgoing this unified state, giving up on the Somaliland-Somalia unity, and returning to our roots of a decentralized micro society. Is this the reason for our problems and ongoing wars-trying to be something we are not? Pease discuss
