If I'm not mistaken, there were attempts made towards reconciliation between the ICU and the TFG in 2006, mediated by the Somali author Nuriddin Farah. However that didn't end well, as many of the losers who are Leaders of Al Shabaab today were also part of the ICU in 2006 If they truly cared about Somalis then these men wouldn't have acted in this manner. Not everyone is for having an Islamic government in Somalia...especially after the failed Al Shabaab experiment. However, I support Al Islaax because they have a proven track record if doing the right thing, establishing schools and promoting peace. Islam is a reality in Somalia, it makes no sense to completely shove Islam out of the way when establishing a Somali State. Al Islaax believes aislam is compatible with modern society, unlike the useless degenerates of Al Shabaab or the Taliban who build nothing, but just seek to micro-manage peoples personal lives (banning soccer, forcing men to wear beards, etc.)

Al Islaax has never been known to engage in terror activities. They are well known for engaging in charitable work and promoting the well being of the Somali nation. Well a ghost town is better than no town. This town can house 500 000 people, which is a LOT of people. Maybe the Government should invite foreign corporations to invest in the country, creating jobs whilst simultaneously expanding credit so the newly employed Angolans can acquire a mortgage. Most Angolans live in small shacks without even basic services. If the Government can figure out ways to move these people in, it can set off a chain of events which can create a strong Angolan middle class. This project cost 3.5 billion dollars, and it can house 500 000 people, so thats 7000$/person. Honestly i dont see this project as all that bad.

I think Puntland is behaving this way to insulate itself from the relative chaos occurring in South Somalia. Just in case these boneheaded Politicians in the South can't agree to establish a peaceful Federal Government, Puntland would be able to declare its own independence and already have all the right institutions to govern. And if the politicians in the South can agree on a Federal framework, then Puntland will be admitted as a Federal State of Somalia Its ingenious, and the late Abdullahi Yusuf deserves all the credit for this

I remember when Al Shabaab (a few months ago) withdrew from parts of Central Somalia and began to move north to the mountains in Galgala, Puntland...I actually heard MANY Somalis celebrating. Even though these Somalis despise Al Shabaab, they actually celebrated when they heard that Al Shabaab was entering Puntland. Why? Well their logic was this: Al Shabaab has killed thousands of Somalis in the South for several years, beheading, torturing and generally making life intolerable for the population.
