Xaaji there's nothing strategic about allying yourself with Al Qaeda. The International Community would never allow Al Qaeda to actually rule over a country. Even the Taliban is not actually Al Qaeda. They're a Pashtun Group made of many soldiers who have no internationalist ambitions at all. And yet NATO is at war with them. If Somalia, the entire Somalia, comes under the control of Godane...then this will guarantee Somalia's isolation in the world geopolitically. Remember, this is the same group that threatened to attack the White House and attack the UK. You think ANY country would come to Somalia's assistance then? Not even the Saudis would assist. There would be sanctions, border controls, and other things which would be designed to undermine Godane's power but in reality would make the average Somali poorer and hungrier. Do you call that strategic? Do you think that's even remotely intelligent? Bill Clinton put heavy sanctions on Iraq in the 1990's, and as a result HALF A MILLION Iraqi children starved to death. While Saddam remained in his palace, unharmed and still in power. The sanctions on Somalia if an Al Qaeda affiliate ever takes over would be 10x worse

Xaaji, Mr Godane takes orders from Arabs in other countries. He listens to them, he's under their command, and he literally wants to use Somalia as an Extremist launching pad into Africa and other regions. He's a stooge just like all the other stooges. Just because Godane is opposed to AMISOM doesn't make him good for the country or someone who's concerned for Somalis at all. He wants their permanent presence in the country. You can compare the AU to Godane all you want, but it's obvious which is worse for Somalia long-term.
-
As if Godane should be judged based ONLY on his opposition to the AU troops. Stop being deceptive Xaaji And stop playing the Nationalist card. As if Godane gives a damn about Somali Nationalism, he's literally trying to import thousands of foreign extremists into our country, wed them to our women and have them in his ranks and as Top Advisors. But you want to ignore that hypocrisy

As powerless as Qoslaaye is, the President of Djibouti is even more powerless lol. What a ridiculous waste of Somali money and time. This trip was a waste Do they have internet connection in Villa Somalia? Is Qoslaye capable of using Skype and calling the Djiboutian President from his office?? If Qoslaaye truly believes in what he's promoting, then maybe he should tour the Somali cities, raising awareness, giving speeches in cities like Beledweyne, and gathering support. But instead he's like a headless chicken, going from country to country.

So it sounds like you do agree with Xaaji and the vast majority of Reer Waqooyi people. You might be posturing online but deep down, of course you'd like to normalize relations and reform the relationship you have with Southern Somalia. Maybe not right now. But perhaps in a decade or so. Somalis have a long history, and a brief 31 year period between 1960-1991 isn't going to affect the long-term objectives of any independent Somaliland or Somalia. You can have your own personal objections all you want saaxib, but when it comes to Government policy, you gotta be realistic.
-
No real advantage to cooperating with the South because they're looking out for their own interests? Doesn't every country look out for their own interests? I can't believe you actually said such a thing. The Kenyans and Ethiopians would be just as quick to stab you in the back, and you share nothing in common with them. Not even a language. Yet you're willing to cooperate with them, even though the Somalis of the South are much more economically viable than the Kenyans and Ethiopians. If Somalia never had the Civil War, their per capita GDP and standard of living would be MUCH HIGHER than Kenya or Ethiopia. So again I ask you. If Somalia became peaceful and I'm very optimistic that it will in the near future.....would you support normalizing relations the same way relations between Germany and France are normalized

Remember, CidanSultan and Xaaji Xunjuf BOTH said on this forum, that the South suffers from "Mafia Mentality", which is something they learned from the corrupt Italians. Since it's a cultural problem, and culture can easily be changed, then do you both propose that Somaliland take a leading role in reforming the South by training politicians, training teachers and trying to change the "Mafia Mentality" of the people down South, as you claim? Such a thing would be extremely easy and cheap. Japan once had a different culture as well, but they transformed their entire culture in 1870 during the Meiji Revolution, and now Japan is virtually unrecognizable. They changed their culture and now they're the 3rd richest nation in the world. The best way to teach someone, is to show them a better example. If Somaliland has a successful State Model based on superior practices, then naturally Somalis who live in Jigjiga, Garowe, Mogadishu, Djibouti and Garissa would try to emulate them.
-
CidanSultan, don't put words in my mouth. You're not "duty-bound" to do anything, and you're free to help who you wish. But what I can't understand is you automatically painting all Koonfurians with the same brush. As I said before, HALF of Koonfurians are under the age of 15. MOST of them have no memory of the Kacaan era. And the Koonfurians had an ugly experience for the last 23 years so therefore you have no right to blame them for "not recognizing" Somaliland. And you totally avoided what I said; If Somalia gets it's act together, and this is bound to happen sooner or later, then what then? If Somalia becomes a peaceful State extending from RasKamboni until Garowe, would you be okay with having a hostile attitude towards this newly-pacified Somali State? Perhaps open up some free trade links? Perhaps sign a military alliance with them? I mean, you have no problem with the Kenyans or Ethiopians who are far worse enemies to you than the Koonfurians can ever be. So what's with the selective hostility? Again I'm asking you; if the South is pacified and Somaliland gains recognition, would you be okay with the 2 countries sharing the same relationship that France and Germany share? 2 neighboring countries who cooperate on multiple issues, have free-trade, and share a military alliance?
-
Not to mention that it's been an official African Union, United Nations, European Union and United States Policy not to recognize Somaliland at all, and this has been going on for 23 years. Do you advocate that all of those countries become hostile enemy states to Somaliland as well? Should Somaliland be enemies with the US, the EU and the United Nations? Not even the Ethiopians and Kenyans wanted to recognize Somaliland either. But now you want to expand diplomatic ties with them and be cordial with those 2 countries. What's with this selective outrage? Do you see your hypocrisy here?

@CidanSultan said: This has nothing to do with hate this has everything to do with reality. I don't share your idealism. Not based on hate but history and interest. I don't see my interests in cooperation with city states and failed states. But regional ambitions that can only be backed by strong economic growth, conscripted army backed by a nuclear deterrent considering Ethiopia is my naibour. This has EVERYTHING to do with hate and you know it. You rejoice everytime you hear bad news coming from Somalia. Come on, don't play games here Cidan. I don't have any hatred towards the Southerners. None of my Reer Waqooyi friends have any hatred either. Why do you? And why do you insist that the 45% of Somalis who are under the age of 15 be treated as an enemy? It's in the interests of any country to cooperate with their next-door neighbor. Of course the two states are going to cooperate. Just stop and think about what you're saying. You want to starve the Djiboutians because some members of their Government had an official policy of not-recognizing Somaliland Statehood. The "failed state" of Somalia won't be a failed state forever. It's only a matter of time that Somalis get their act together. And what then? What happens then? When Somaliland is an independent country and Somalia is a functioning State? Do you advocate them being enemies the same way India and Pakistan are enemies? People like you should be kept far away from making any policy decisions.
-
This bitterness and hatred won't get us anywhere. It's un-Islamic. It's an ugly attitude to have, and the criminals who violated the Somaliland people will all be dead within the next 20 years. So what's the use in this hostility? You're acting as if the Koonfurians benefited from this civil war. Almost half a million of them died, their economy is in shambles, their citizens are running to other countries for refuge. The situation isn't pretty in the South at all, and all you can think of, is demanding that the poor civilians in Somalia look towards the political situation in Waqooyi and Toghdeer. The average Somali is trying to stay alive and feed his family. Your arrogance knows no bounds Cidan. Furthermore you've claimed before, on this forum, that the problems in Somalia are due to a cultural problem amongst the Koonfurians. That their culture is messed up and is a source of their misery. While Waqooyi culture is different, which is what allowed Reer Waqooyi to build a functioning State in the North. Well if it's a cultural problem, and if Somaliland does become it's own independent State, then why shouldn't the Somalilanders do their part in reversing the cultural damage inflicted on the Koonfurians due to Italian colonization? Why shouldn't you attempt to teach them the appropriate way to handle things, and the appropriate way to manage a government? If Somaliland becomes a peaceful and powerful State, achieving such a thing is relatively easy, as you claim. You keep contradicting yourself. You're too emotional
-
Who is CidanSultan looking towards for recognition? Muse Sudi? Qanyare? Aideed? Sheikh Shariif? Abdiqasim? Warya, we did NOT have a government in Somalia in 23 years. So any negotiations between Somaliland and Somalia obviously would not be recognized nor would they be taken seriously by the international community. Stop making it look like everybody's out to get you. As if the Koonfurians have this "conspiracy" to suppress and oppress Somalilanders. You're out of touch saaxib. Koonfurian civilians are trying to stay alive, and they couldn't care less about this Somaliland/Somalia crap. It won't change their situation at all.
-
Cidan, you think like a child. You do realize that the French and Germans killed MILLIONS of each other only 70 years ago right? Entire generations of men were wiped out. And now the French and Germans get along perfectly fine. They share a border, a currency and a passport. Stop looking into the past. You sound bitter. And you keep pointing to the crimes of the Kacaan era (which no one is denying) as justification for having a hostile attitude towards Koonfurians. Warya, I'm from the North too. I don't have this extreme hostility towards Koonfurians, but for some reason you do. And you contradict yourself. You can't complain about Somalia "not recognizing" Somaliland for the last 23 years, when Somalia has actually ceased to exist since 1991. These temporary administrations are not a government, they know they're not a government, so stop looking to them for recognition. How can you expect cooperation with Somalia when Somalia is literally a country without a real government? Do you think before you speak? Seriously Cidan, you're thinking like a child right now
-
Xaaji Xunjuf would like to see separation between Somaliland and Somalia, but a common alliance and friendship between the two nations. He would promote increased cooperation between the two countries. CidanSultan however, not only promotes separation, but he'd like Somaliland and Somalia to be enemy states, similar to India and Pakistan, or North Korea and South Korea. And anyone can see that from his posts
-
Dr Osman, do you think that if some semblance of peace is reached in the South, then the culture of the Southern Somalis will eventually change? This is a cultural problem. Not a genetic problem. And culture can be changed. The culture and mentality of our people has changed so much since the Kacaan era. If we can somehow reverse this destructive mentality (which would take at least a generation), and then show that their mentality is what destroyed our nation, then there's no reason to doubt that this would transform the people of the South into better people.

Do you support the relocation of the capital to save the nation..
DoctorKenney replied to galbeedi's topic in Politics
Dr Osman, Somalia's population has stayed at about 8 million because of the civil war. If you go to Somalia, the typical woman has AT LEAST 5 or 6 children. But the reason why our population isn't growing is because of violence, famine, and disease. Our health care is one of the worst in the world. ....and many Somalis die of diseases which could be easily curable. This is ALL because of our civil war. You don't think if Somalia and Somaliland had a GENUINE peace, our population wouldn't increase? Somali women would still be having like 5 children each (they already have this habit in Canada and the USA)....and the Somali population would explode as a result. Our population would more than double in less than a generation. Somalia could very quickly reach 50 million people. We already have a country where almost half our population is under 15 years old, one of the youngest populations on Earth. And Somali women have the highest fertility rate. I don't think we have much to worry about when it comes to being swallowed up by Ethiopians and Kenyans. If we maintain a lasting peace, we'd rival those countries very quickly. -

Xaaji the reason why so many people are against Mogadishu being the Capital City of Somalia is because the mentality of Mogadishu's residents. It's a small-minded and petty mentality and the political culture of the people there is awful. You and I both know that. Many of them are people with a village mentality living in the capital city. It's like the residents of New York City being replaced by rednecks from Alabama. That's what Mogadishu looks like right now. The Reer Baadiyo with their clannish and petty mentality have moved into the capital city en masse, and they claim it to be their turf. -

SomaliaRising, I would advocate creating a new Somali city out of scratch, but obviously that costs too much and Somalia can't afford that. Hargeisa wouldn't work bro. A large segment of their population are outright separatists. Bosaso is a clan city and Galkacyo is split in half. Marka is nothing but a vacation spot. Maybe Kismayo?? How about that city? -

SomaliaRising, wouldn't it be better that Somalia's capital be a coastal city, such as Bosaso or Hobyo? (I know Hobyo is a tiny town, but you get my point) Somalia, with the longest coastline in Africa, should have a coastal capital city. I would recommend it to be moved as well. Perhaps a little farther north towards Somaliland/Puntland. Mogadishu lost it's legitimacy 2 decades ago -

CidanSultan, what you just said about "legality" could also apply to the Indian Subcontinent. All of those countries were under British control, and they were British colonies. But once the British pulled out of India, the country split into India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc. Would India have the right to annex Pakistan based on the "legality" of British colonial borders? Would they have the right to do it to Bangladesh? The borders of India were drawn through referendums, regional government agreements, and outright warfare. I wanna know what you think about this.
