  1. Are you guys implying Somalia will become a secular state?
  2. Qatar's respond was.....' We'll just stay silent and wait until everything is destroyed and then give you Gazans 450 million dollars for the reconstruction efforts'.
  3. A lot of Muslims don't have much regard for human life these days.
  4. Do understand that you will have a culture shock when you go back. Expect to see a lot of walking curtains. Culture shock awaits Somali returnees These days are over.
  5. J'Attendrai Le Suivant (I'll Wait for the Next One) was a great one. Thanks Max. I have also seen Life is beautiful. That one is great. These are my favourite short movies. Let me know what you think of it. Validation A movie about the magic of free parking and the effects of complimenting. Short film winner of multiple film festivals New boy A young African boy with a haunting back story starts school in Ireland, and finds out quickly exactly what it means to be the new kid. Winner of Best Narrative Short at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival and nominated for an Oscar. Signs A simple movie about communication and making a connection. Short film winner of multiple film festivals.
  6. That is great news! And perhaps a ban in the future on visual pollution, also known as advertising.

  8. Yes oba I did. Very sad. @ Homunculus, true it does take longer than 9 years. But I don't think it will take us 9 years to fix open sewers and having an electricity grid. We just need to get out of war first.
  9. That country had declared peace since 2003 and some areas of the capital still look like shit. People even shit at the beaches and there's no electricity grid. Allah! I hope when peace is declared in Somalia it won't take long for us to live with dignity and basic needs.
  10. Somalis in general don't know what is allowed in the country they are living when it comes to disciplining children. For instance here in the Netherlands we now have a problem of Somali children being placed out of their homes, because of abuse by their parent(s). Whether neglect, emotional or physical abuse. And a huge problem is that not enough Somalis volunteer to be foster parents, which means that some Somali children will be brought up with Dutch atheist/Christian foster parents. I've even heard of foster parents bringing a Somali child to church and disregarding his Muslim upbringing. Somalis need to get their act together. Stop seeing everything as a taboo and burying it as if it doesn't exist.

    Sandy

Apophis;884020 wrote: Sandy got nothing on this guys rageedi (Arlington cemetery). The moving photo purporting to show soldiers standing guard at the Arlington National Cemetery monument during Hurricane Sandy quickly spread on the social web. But the Old Guard pointed out that the photo was actually a shot taken in September. If Sandy came here in the Netherlands there would be no Netherlands to speak of.
  12. There's a new game out which also plays out in Somalia. Medal of Honor Warfighter. I wonder if they speak Somali in the game or will we see the old fashioned racism again? Hmmm...
  13. You guys should check out my tumblr. http://nomadamsterdam.tumblr.com/
  14. Chimera! What about Somalis building houses and other construction in different colors? From ocean blue, yellow to green. It's okay with me, but there should be at least some rules for the beautification of the city. Because sometimes it seems the designers were high on khat. Mogadishu used to be known as the 'Pearl of the Indian Ocean'. I don't think if the random coloring will go on, the title won't ever be giving back. And I saw the Hawo Tako construct being painted dark green on a picture. I was so disappointed. Landmarks should be made in their original state. Shouldn't there be strict urban planning and zoning rules when it comes to construction. For instance the centre mainly having white washed construction?
  15. China calls for effective governance in Somalia - 2012-10-17 China on Tuesday called on the new government of Somalia to actively implement the interim constitution and extend effective governance over the whole territory of the country. Li Baodong, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, made the remarks as he addressed an open Security Council meeting on the situation in Somalia. Li said that China hopes all parties in Somalia to continue to take forward the political process and national reconciliation. " We hope the relevant parties to seize this historical opportunity for the greater good of national stability and development, strengthen unity and cooperation, and bridge their differences through dialogue and consultations." "We support the Somali new government in its efforts to implement the interim constitution, exercise the government functions, extend effective authority over all its national territories," he said. "We urge different factions in Somalia to renounce violence and join the peace process as soon as possible." China also supports Somalia's efforts in expediting the building of security sectors in order to assume full responsibility of safeguarding national sovereignty and stability. Li pointed out that poverty and underdevelopment is the root causes of the twenty-year turbulence in Somalia. "We hope the various parties in Somalia to stipulate an economic and reconstruction plan so as to make the Somali people see the prospect of national peace and development." China calls on the UN and all donor countries to deliver their current commitment, raise more funds and resources to help Somalia realize economic and social development. China hopes the UN will play actively a coordinating role, on the basis of fully respecting the sovereignty of Somalia and taking into account opinions from the African Union and other regional organizations, in formulating a comprehensive and viable plan for the international community to help Somalis achieve stability and development, and put it into effect as soon as possible, said the Chinese ambassador. 16. An anti-Arab Somali wanting to become the Education MP? This has made my day. I hope it's true. Praise the Lord!
  17. Misspelled shaax, but still cool.
  18. It's good that the relations between Somalia and other nations and world bodies are becoming greater. I do hope that Somalis will work for their self interests as a nation. And always put that first. Aid can be used as a dangerous tool. I'm wondering how much money will be put into the urban planning of Mogadishu as the same British department is funding it. Ahmed complains that Somalia is still ignored by Unesco but is pleased that Britain's Department for International Development is funding his urban planning department. Source Random question, how come female representatives from other nations wear a head covering in Somalia? Is it for respect of the culture or their safety? It's not like they're entering a mosque. If someone can explain this please.
  19. There is a difference between Islam and Arabism. Somalis are on a slippery slope in losing themselves. Read this interesting article about Somalis. 'Chasing Al-Arabiya: Somalia’s cultural genocide, sort of.' http://afrolens.com/2012/10/05/chasing-arabia-somalias-cultural-genocide-sort-of/
