  1. Chapter 2: Fundemental Rights And The Duties Of The Citizen Title One : General Principles Of Human Rights Article 10. Human Dignity (1) Human dignity is given by God to every human being, and this is the basis for all human rights. (2) Human dignity is inviolable and must be protected by all. (3) State power must not be exercised in a manner that violates human dignity. A mayor cannot pass any laws. This mayor has more pressing issues than this. His days are over.
  2. Can someone make a seperate thread of this news? The mayor of Mogadishu has lost it. He sounds more like a warlord than a mayor. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv18zF0f4vQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>
  3. They should address the harrassment of Somalis at UK airports and forcing them to spy for the MI5. But I guess that's not on the agenda. Too bad they're not holding the conference in Mogadishu. That would send a strong message.
  4. I also keep hearing about girls/women having to marry their rapists to have her 'family's honour'. It makes me sick to my stomach. And I don't think Somalia is immune to this. I saw this quote I find interesting for the religious folk. “The earliest generation of Muslims took pride in their compliance to the Koran’s injunction to abandon female infanticide, an act that was often done to prevent shame to the family. Thus for centuries, Muslims have taken pride in their contributions to the rising status of women. But what pride is there in abandoning burying one’s young daughters in the sand only for them to grow to adulthood wishing that they had been? These tragically frequent stories of women violated over and over again can only be described as the perversion of Islam, unfortunately, by Muslims themselves.” — Sheikh Musa Furber - The Islam Women Were Promised
  5. I do believe that rape is rampant in Somalia and this article is not a surpise, but basically a recycled article. It happens everywhere, but during conflict it is used as a tool of war and oppression. Why are they using the word flourishing that has a connotation to positve words/emotions? The question remains, what are Somalis themselves going to do about rape and sexual abuse?
  6. I can imagine the Wahhabi's/Salafi's/ Al Shabaab supporters having an aneurysm after watching that. Look at the passion of the woman at 1:40
  7. @ AfricaOwn Can you imagine a Western media outlet describing a black male as 'bright'? I can't either. Even if he was studying at Harvard they would find a more negative word to describe the person. As a person of color I always read between the lines. Another shooting today in Colorado. Four people dead in the same town as the shooting of the Batman movie premiere. LINK
  8. It has to do with white privilage and white supremacy. White people are brought up to believe they can have everything they want and that they can never be wrong. When it occurs that white people feel threatened because they cannot have the things they were 'entitled to', something happens in their brain. They snap. They blame the society for not giving them what they want/need. Many discussions are going on on the internet. Especially on tumblr for instance. The unfairness for instance that suddenly mental illness is being discussed only because most of these maniacs were white people. It is a hypocrisy.
  9. Are you afraid you will pray to these statues? Get over yourself. Your faith in islam must be enough to stop you from doing that. Next thing you might say it's forbidden for women to walk without a hijab, because you can't control your body. Okay back to the topic.
  10. Daqane. I have a question for you. Are there any plans to rebuild the looted/stolen statues in Mogadishu? Those of historic figures such as Hawo Tako and Ahmed Gurey?
  11. Nothing odd about it. I'm trying to showcase the conservativeness that Somalis have in common with Saudis as it's everyone that is wearing it. I wonder what you think of my statement then. That it is not accepted for women not to walk without a hijab in Mogadishu. (let alone any other Somali city).
  12. Somalia today is also a very conservative and patriarchal society. Let's not pretend our society hasn't changed. Just an example, a woman walking around without a hijab in Mogadishu is not accepted. Even 4 year old girls are wearing it. Or am I wrong?

  14. True. German sounds like they're always yelling and mad. @ Apophis, the Dutch and Danish don't really have a common link with each other. We don't know much about each other. The funny thing is that the Dutch usually have negative views of Germans, but other way around the Germans are very fond of the Dutch. They even like some Dutch tv shows and movies. Some famous Dutch people learn German, host tv shows in Germany and are very popular in Germany.
  15. I never liked Chinese movies. But of course there's some good ones. I just haven't seen one. The Japanese are great at making horror movies. Koreans more so with love / drama movies. But my favourite Korean movie is a thriller about a serial killer. The movie is called 'I Saw The Devil'. It's even available to watch on Youtube. This is the trailer. The next movie I want to see is this one. It's called The Perfect Number.
  16. That's my people y'all. I've studied there for a semester. Nothing gay about this. In South Korean society appearance is everything. They believe that the better you look, the more succesful you will be in life. One of the main reasons perhaps eye lid surgery is normal and even given to kids when they graduate highschool. People from other countries are overly ethnocentric when they talk about Korean society. You also see men holding hands and being touchy. It's them expressing their friendship. You'll see many different things over there. Boyfriends for instance hold their girlfriends bags. It's funny, but you'll get used to it. They also have this fascination about being white. Not Caucasion, but just lighter skinned and fair. Maybe this is why make up for men is also becoming more popular over there.
  17. @ Che-Guevara. A German friend of mine said Dutch sounds like German but retarded. I will never forget that. Haha.
  18. I'm interested in what they will be talking about. From training the militiary, political landscape to the reconstruction of Mogadishu.I wonder what projects will be announced after this visit. I know for instance that Turkey was just finalizing a project on rebuilding 20 miles of roads in Mogadishu. And of course there are many other projects. I do hope they won't ignore the rest of Somalia. This week the UN started an appeal for 1.3 billion dollars for aid. But I think Turkey will do a much better job that will cost less.
  19. I never liked Sinterklaas really. But the Dutch hang on to it, because they don't have many traditions at all. A funny take on the Dutch Holiday called Sinterklaas by an American writer visiting the Netherlands. The whole interview is interesting, but if you only want to see his take on the holiday watch from 19:04 This is a girl explaining the holiday.
  20. @Apophis, because of a false story about the promised land 'England'. Somalis following each other based on rumors of a better living.
  21. Another 'Dutch' over here. We're a dying breed. lol. And the other Somalis make fun of us when we talk Dutch. SOL'ers, what do you think is the ugliest language you've ever heard? My opinion is Danish. Nou laten we hier lekker binnenkort Sinterklaas met z'n allen vieren!
  22. Saudis are sex crazed sadistic people. Well their authorities. I once walked around in Jeddah and I couldn't even see children on ads. They were pixelated, because the authorities think it will increase pedophilia. o_O I don't think trust, spirituality and reflection is important for them in KSA. What a joke.
