This is according to Britannica: Casualties of World War II World War II, the deadliest and most destructive war in human history, claimed between 40 and 50 million lives, displaced tens of millions of people, and cost more than $1 trillion to prosecute. The financial cost to the United States alone was approximately $5.8 trillion in 2023 dollars when adjusted for inflation. In Germany’s 49 largest cities, nearly 40 percent of homes were seriously damaged or destroyed. In the western Soviet Union, the destruction was even greater. U.S. Army Air Forces burned scores of Japanese cities to the ground with incendiary bombs before Hiroshima and Nagasaki were largely destroyed with atomic weapons.

Here is a transcript of what she said. For those seeking an accurate and verbatim translation of what Congresswoman @Ilhan said, here it is: [The context is: she was addressing her Somali-American constituents, who were alarmed by Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed’s announcement of his intention to assist a region/province in Somalia in becoming a sovereign state. Additionally, he stated he will acquire land and sea l for his landlocked country through this province. Somalia, the African Union, the USA, the European Union, the UK, and the global community stand with Somalia, stating that dismembering Somalia and annexing its land is unacceptable] Here is what the Congresswoman said: ———————————————— “We Somalis are people who love each other. It is possible that some of us are rough with each other, but when the going gets tough, we are people who have each other’s backs. We are sisters and brothers, supporting each other, people who know they are Somalis and Muslims, coming to each other’s aid and aiding their brothers and sisters. And the other day, when we heard that some Somalis, or those who say they are Somalis, entered an MoU with Ethiopia, many people called me and said, “Ilhan, you should talk to the US government; what is the US government going to do about this?” My response was: the US government will do what we ask it to do. We should have this confidence in ourselves as Somalis. We live in this country. We are taxpayers in this country. This country is one where one of your daughters sits in Congress. While I am in Congress, no one will take Somalia’s sea. The United States will not back others to rob us. So, do not lose sleep over that, O Minnesotans. The lady you sent to Congress is on this, and she is as cognizant of this interest as you are. I would like to tell President Hassan Sheikh that we are impressed with the great work you have done. You have made it known to those living in Somalia and other places that, in spite of the many challenges we face as Somalis, we are nonetheless competent people. People who believe in their country and will not allow it to be endangered. Thus, I want to congratulate the Somalis in Minnesota and everywhere on how united you are. How you all stood by our president, because he needs our solidarity. Somalia belongs to all Somalis. Somalia is one. We are brothers and sisters, and our land will not be balkanized. Our lands were taken from us before, and God willing, we may one day seek them, but what we have now will not be balkanized. I thank you all for how you always welcome me and honor me; may the Lord honor you. Peace and blessings of God be with you. https://twitter.com/AnalystSomalia/status/1752061355530571978?s=20

Waaryaa, adna ma caraqii XX ayaad dawlis u ridatay? We are not talking about brick and mortar. Is the image you conjured up of 'slums' in your mind that of India? I am referring to low-income housing estate, terrible sub-standard living conditions, higher than average criminal activities incl. gun related violence, overcrowded residential areas mostly resided by immigrant communities, recent or otherwise. Spare a thought for Grenfell Tower. The photos are of the same buildings I referred to earlier, which are low-income, government assisted housing estate resided mostly by immigrants. I just rang one of my cousins, who was born in Dixon, owns one of the apartments as a rental unit, and confirmed their ownership was of Trusts and law firms, heavily subsidised by local authorities, intended to buttress under-represented communities, just like Housing Associations in the UK, and elsewhere in Europe. The same applies to the US, say in Minneapolis. Do these buildings look like low-income housing? These are the new developments in Cedar Ave, Minneapolis, right next to the old apartment complex, the ones you were mocking. But in reality, when one goes inside, meets its residents, the conditions are terribly sub-standard. By the way, if you reside in Dixon at one of these buildings, my labelling them 'slum' does not take stock from them or you, and there is no shame in it. It is just that I live on a lake, so do not be offended by my perhaps elitist disposition to God-awful, crowded, sub-standard housing conditions. Now, you may put the pint away! -

O' I have been there a few times, and never wanted to be seen anywhere near them, let alone chance visitation. Are there two Dixon council estates? Or have things changed since early 2000s, last time I visited? -
Could have been disastrous, I agree, as that was during the incubation period of the bottom-up approach, which gave way to Federalism, with the biggest benefactors being conflict-ridden southern regions. Or could have been better in that many ensuing problems incl. the rise of al Shabab, the SSC conflict etc. could have been prevented. With its foibles, Federalism is a system, which could keep the nation in harmony, and sovereignty intact, till its people have politically matured, and set their differences aside. To whom do you credit the federalist project in its original form (I do not think we could call what is being practised by Farmaajo & Xasan as that)?

The plan was to form a government in the N West and N East with Cigaal and C/llahi Yusuf consulted, as commissioned by the UN, under the aegis of David Stephen, then UNPOS Rep. The idea was presented to Cigaal & C/llahi Yusuf in '99, both of whom initially accepted in principle. Cigaal posited to consult political leadership in Hargeysa, who categorically rejected the plan. C/llahi Yusuf proposed Cigaal to assume the leadership role even with Hargeysa as the seat of future government. In the impasse, Stephen shared the idea with IOG, who jumped at it during his address at the UN. Carta was born, and the rest is history. Fahad is neither well-briefed, seasoned, nor as informed of Somali political affairs, mostly past events, as he likes to present himself as a paragon of sound judgement, and a fountain of wisdom. Now, if some of the statements he is passing on as facts are as flawed, then one would want to ask: what else is he just conjuring up and passing on as facts? Postscript: In all seriousness, Cigaal was a divisive, opportunist, and murderous politician, one of the worse misfortunes that could have befallen upon Somali politics, incl. that of SL at the time, [the] architect of the single City state political quagmire, depriving other regions and cities, marginalising significant clans, only to serve his political interest, all of which are currently dogging SL, but none of his accolades would admit to that. Visit Burco & Berbera, and there his legacy shall greet you out in the open.

I can and I must, for you are dotty high on spliff! Besides, that argument might have made sense in the past, but in 2024, not quite so. You are just on the precipice of sprouting, and acting as if a cornered beetle flying from one fire to another. I am forever your conscious, and only saviour!

You are free to do as you please in your triangle with conditions: Reer Awdal choose that which best serves their public interest (not that you have a say in the matter, but acceptance is key). No Habashas in Somali lands barring lands already under occupation (for your posterity).

Hang on, I thought this pauper sod was a Canuck of Dixon slums, but it is now making sense as to his lowly comprehension of fine repartee. I would have been more tactful, if gentler had I known said fact. As to Trump, with Maine and Colorado removing him from the ballot, it is still to be determined if he could even run with other States expected to follow suit, unless SCOTUS (US Supreme Court: 6 (Cons) vs 3 (Libs) ) throws him a life line. Other States incl. MN, MI, OR, CA etc. considered his case, and allowed his being on the ballot. Other States might still block him due to pending legal lawsuits, some criminal. -
There has been heavy fighting which lasted for five hours where Al-Shabaab took over three bases of the Somali National Army stationed in Caad, Galmudug Region. On top of the heavy losses, the Somali National Army’s Gorgor Commandos officers and soldiers who survived the attack & spoke to me; revealed more than 230 confirmed deaths with countless injured. The SNA stationed there were 4 battalions of Gorgor Commandos, 15 suicide bombers detonated their vests while waves of attacks by terrorists ensued in the heat of battle. No reinforcements made to the besieged army despite the heavy losses, Al-Shabaab took massive armaments and battle reinforced wagons. Since Hassan Sheikh announced his half-baked fake war against the terrorists, the number of lost soldiers exceed 4,000 and more than 300 officers of the national army! https://x.com/TerraAbdirizak/status/1750170516000817256?s=20

Oi mate, stop, this kid (XX) is a mental patient, and we can not discuss critical matters, ethical or otherwise, requiring moral clarity, rationality, and maturity with him, as if a sane person. Innocent civilians killed by Barre's regime were our people (yours, mine, and us all), and it was a criminal act, and wrong to all right-thinking people. Wrong is never right, no matter who does it, and to whom it is done, even if to your worse enemy.

WAS IT OR WAS IT NOT, AND WHAT WAS CHANGED, IF ANY? Speaker Adan Madoobe says the procedural changes passed with an overwhelming majority, but the voting process says otherwise. But what was it that Speaker Adan Madoobe and President Hassan Sheikh claim they changed? President @HassanSMohamud and Speaker Adan Madoobe claim that procedural changes that will pave the way for constitutional amendment have today passed the parliament. They also claim any future constitutional amendment will from now on require only a simple majority instead of the previously mandated two-thirds majority. This is expected, in a similar voting process, to enable President Hassan Sheikh to change the constitution from a parliamentary and clan-based powersharing system to a presidential system. In short, with an amended constitution, President Hassan Sheikh will remain President and Muse Bihi will be the Vice President. Presidential term will be changed from four to five years. There will be no more Office of the Prime Minister. In summary, it is back to the UK Proposed north-south confederation and a clan-based political alliance between Mogadishu and Hargeisa, and for now, the strenghthening of the political alliance between Hassan Sheikh and Muse Bihi. Meanwhile, now that you have seen President Hassan Sheikh's interview with Al-Jazeera (https://twitter.com/radiodaljir/status/1749819283184697517?t=HpPvpaB1tNgVDbgDf1z8lg&s=19), if you had any doubts about the MoU and President Hassan Sheikh's "Ethiopia is the #2 enemy of Somalia", doubt some more. If you thought President Hassan Sheikh will unify Somalia and safeguard the unity and territorial integrity of Somalia, doubt even some more.

I am aware of the transitional year post ina Cigaal passing, and was only accounting for his full term. In other words, more concerned about journalists being arrested than massacres and atrocities being dispensed. Got it.

I am hearing about a coalition being formed by Eritrea, Tigray and Amhara regions leaving Abiy's grand empirical aspiration in tatters; it further speaks as to the timing of his signing the agreement with Bixiye as a new year gift for the nation all for theatrics to appease and misdirect. Tyrants and despot are odd creatures.

Operation Liquidate Federal Constitution in a rush kicked off in Mog town at the wrong time, and for the wrong reasons. So much for mobolising the nation to defend its seas from invading foe.
