Ethiopia: 20 000 children sold 19/10/2005 22:48 - (SA) Anothony Mitchell Addis Ababa - Poverty-stricken Ethiopians sell thousands of their children for as little as $1.20 (about R8) each to traffickers who put them to work as prostitutes, domestic labour, weavers or professional beggars, said the International Organisation for Migration on Wednesday. Families sell as many as 20 000 children, some as young as 10, every year. About two-thirds are trafficked by brokers who earn a part of the child's earnings, while a third are trafficked by friends and family, said Alem Brook, a legal expert with the group's counter-trafficking unit in Ethiopia. "The parents are often deceived with promises of money or that the child will be educated," said Alem. "Traffickers pay around 10 to 20 birr (about R8 to R16) for each child." At least 85% of Ethiopia's 71 million people survive on subsistence farming, and more than 45% of those live in abject poverty. Annual incomes are just $100 (about 660). The spread of HIV/Aids has taken its toll on families, leaving many children without proper care-takers and vulnerable to traffickers. Traffickers are also increasing recruitment of Ethiopian women to work as prostitutes abroad, according to the International Organisation for Migration. At least 10 000 Ethiopian women have been trafficked to the Gulf States to work as prostitutes, according to the group. Traffickers who prey on girls in Ethiopia expect to earn around 7 000 Birr (about R5 500) for each person they send overseas. Human trafficking is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the world, earning those involved about $10bn (about R66bn) a year. If caught, brokers can face jail sentences of up to 20 years, but few are ever prosecuted.

UN: Yusuf Inda Cade DRUG trade in Lower Shabele...
Jabhad replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
Duke quote me in full, don't take just take those parts that you like only, or serves your interests. If Abdulahi Yusuf gets away of all other crimes, he certainly cannot get away the crime mass killings of his own people during the many wars in Puntland as well as the times he was an Ethiopian Stooge during Siyad barre rule. Try to change your tactics of selling this warlord turned president, to a more realistic ones. Maybe we might listen(atleast those of us who did not suffer his criminal past), if you tell us, the man is a completely changed man and what he did in the past is just a history. -
Why post such a hatefull propoganda.

This was, however, in the past when Islam lived in ideal co-habitation with the local culture, when fashion changed according to time and age. This was the time when one could pray occasionally, or never prayed at all, fasted in the month of Ramadan or never fasted at all, made pilgrimage to Mecca or never did at all; but would forever consider oneself a true follower of Islam, knowing that to be a Muslim is a bond between man and God and that one’s faith is not answerable to anyone else. I'm happily go with Islamic way of life than the "local culture" this writer is trying to protect.

The population and the international community have seen what he is a stooge of other men. What is the difference of being a stooge for an ethiopian strongman or being a stooge of mogadishu strongman.

Jabhad replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
Why do they call him Sheikh, is just an insult to the precious word. The term "Sheikh" linguistically means a man of old age. Later it came to be a title meaning leader, elder or noble or a Bedouin tribal leader. Coming back to the topic, this warlord, killer, drug dealer, represser is no different than all the other warlords including warlord turned president cabdulahi yusuf who stole, dumbed dangerous waste into our sea, gave illegal fishing rights to forigein companies without consulting people of Somalia, and most serious crime of them all killed countless of innocent people. The list is endless. -
What did the so called Somali government do about it. Nothing. They did not even pressure Arab governments such as UAE and other Gulf States to stop buying from the warlords.

Turkey has a competitive advantage in many industries which explains the reason EU keeps turning them down out of fear. Its not the fear of competition thats the driving force of the people who reject Turkey to become EU member, its because its a huge country with majority muslim people.

To the Muslim Youth* By Amr Khaled** Sept. 28, 2005 (Surely Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change their own condition.) (Ar-Ra`d 13:11) Baghdad—this beautiful city on Tigris River—the historical capital for the Islamic state and for the world, where Muslims ruled the world for hundreds of years, is now occupied. Baghdad, the center of culture and sciences, where Christians and Jews lived safely and peacefully, enjoying freedom to practice their religion for hundreds of years. Baghdad, this cherished Muslim city, was invaded in the past by the Mongols, who degraded all ethics and all values of humanity, slaying women and children, and violating sacred places. Nowadays, time repeats itself and the same bloody scene is being played on the same stage. Do you know, Muslim youth, that the sanctity of the Muslim blood outweighs the sanctity of the Ka`bah? What will be our argument before Allah Almighty when He asks us about our slackness in helping these oppressed people? Do you know that we will be questioned about the effort we did for our religion and our Ummah? Indeed, what we are suffering from today is not just the crisis in Iraq, but also the crisis of the past 100 years, through which the Muslim Ummah fell prey to many ailments, especially the following: 1. Distance from Allah and abandonment of the divine laws 2. Scientific and technological backwardness 3. Moral and behavioral decline 4. Blind imitation of bad examples 5. Division and disunity, and preferring personal interests to the interests of the Ummah 6. Misunderstanding of Islam and wrong application of its teachings As a result, our Ummah lost its consciousness, lost its awareness of its goals, interests, and identity. This, of course, encouraged enemies to think low of us and made Muslims feel disappointment and despair as well as confusion and impotence. This bitter reality will not change unless we realize and make use of the law of change: (Surely Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change their own condition.) (Ar-Ra`d 13:11) No change or recovery can be expected unless we ourselves embark upon the process of changing our affairs. This law of change is not an empty slogan. Actually, it is the only way to get out of the dilemma we are undergoing. Now, the question is, what are the aspects that should be changed? The following ten points answer this question: 1. Repentance must replace sin. 2. Obedience must replace negligence. 3. Seriousness, manliness, and high resolve must replace slackness, laziness, and carelessness. 4. Desire for scientific achievement and creativity must replace narrow thinking and limited vision. 5. Positivism must replace negativity. 6. Patriotism to the Ummah must replace blind following of the West. 7. Useful and productive work must replace emptiness and wasted time in trivial matters. 8. A complete comprehensive understanding of Islam must replace mistaken or partial knowledge. 9. Preference of the Ummah must replace individuality and selfishness. 10. Hope must replace despair. Whenever the question “what to do?†occurs to you, remember these ten points. Change them, and then you can expect Allah’s victory. Islam has started with youth in your age, and you, the Muslim youth, are the most capable of bringing about this change. Just exert your effort to make these changes within yourselves and within your societies, then rest assured that Allah will never let you down, and that success will be yours because the law of change will then, and only then, be in your favor.
