I can tell you, it is bloody exciting being in the Hall and watching the proceedings in person!. Jawaari has indeed won and not just won, he won with the support of the whole house including those that voted against him. Everyone here agrees he is the right man for the job. For me though, the fact that only months ago we were under heavy shelling in Mogadishu and left the safety of our concrete bunkers at our own risk, to the fact that we can hold elections in SOMALIA and in particular the Capital MOgadishu is Historic. It is very emotional but so has this entire year for me. This is when I feel I can kick back and enjoy the fruits of the hard work we all put in down here. Credit where credit is due, The Badbaado administration of Gaas truly made a difference and you have to have lived through the past 14 months here in Mogadishu to know so. I pray WE as SOMALIS keep this momentum going inshallah.

One has to admit Abdiweli has changed Somaliya for The better. I was here when Shabaab was still fighting in the heart of the city and have been watching with great satisfaction the changes taking place the past 12 months. For that and for that alone Abdiweli has my vote!. I pray whoever comes next actually takes things forward and not backward. It is a time of great worry for me because we are at a crossroads and we could end up loosing all the success we have seen the past year if we are not careful.

I was at the conference throughout the Process and I found myself so emotional!!!. I felt Proud when everyone started singing the National Anthem and people were genuinely holding hands, patting each other in the back, hugging. some were crying Quietly in the corner, some Openly shedding tears of joy. It was a moment that made me Proud to be Somali and I pray we have many more moments like that to come inshallah. It Felt Good!!!!. It just so happens that I walked out of the event at one point because it was overwhelming and came across our beautiful Flag flying Proudly outside. I stood to attention and Saluted. The Current Prime Minister and his cabinet deserve all the praise they get. These guys work tirelessly, and they work together, despite their tribal diversity. I had the pleasure of working with all Somalis in this ConstitutionAL project and it was a job well done! Now I know why I came back home. Salaams and Congratulations To all Somalis From Moqdisho!

Let me give you a different perspective of the Diaspora in Somalia. To understand this you need to also bear in mind the brain drain this country has suffered the last 20 years. I came here in Mogadishu just over a year ago, and at the time there was a small number of Diaspora and they were actively trying to turn the fortunes of this nation for the better. They managed to do that by bringing in new ideas, and were able to better represent the Nation with the rest of the world, negotiated hard on behalf of all of us whereas before the world had it easy with Somalis. This individuals attracted their fellow diaspora community, so much so that the entire thinking in this country is changing for the better. All of them ( i mean the overwhelming majority), are against violence and I was invited in get togethers, dinners of diaspora who work in all the different arms of governments, and they all meet based on the countries they had been living in!. It transcends the offices they work in and that in itself has helped create a better working relationship between the offices of state. The Diaspora are also heavily investing in the country and if you look at the key differences made in the country, you will see Diaspora at the heart of it. The point I am making is this: The Diaspora in my view should be given the lion share of any representation. Maybe I am biased.....................

Actually despite my reservations with Elders in General the past 20 years, I welcome the statement and apparent decision they made. It is a way forward and constructive. I hope the other elders/clans follow suit and we can for once get out of this much despised "Transition" Our sovereignty is being challenged left right and centre because our government cannot represent us properly as it's legitimacy is always questioned. It is then left to the so called International Community to make so many decisions for us. I was recently involved in talks with some supposed International Community leaders and surprisingly they complained that since "91 they have invested no less than 60 Billion Dollors in Somalia. I nearly choked on the drink I was having. I asked all the usual probing questions like exactly where did this money go etc, but it became apparent very quickly that no one knows where it went but on record the figure is there! We can all go on crying this or that, separatist, unionist etc, but we are all in the same boat and unless this crap they call Transition is ended I assure you the alternative will be one we shall all come to hate more than any petty argument we have against one another. Keep that in mind next time you see someone trying his level best to disrupt a process that is haste, probably needs a lot of things sorted, a constitution that will need amendments etc. Remember the goal.......we need to end Transition and quickly!
