Diinta yaa ku ciyaaray? Mida kale, if a shaikh comes up with something as ludicrous as handsome men wearing niqaab can't we voice our disagreement? The diin is sacred, but the opinions of mere men are not.

Seeing that ur a fellow clansmen I shall give u respite from the soul crushing invective I had prepared for u in our mother tongue, which would surely have allieviated u of ur self-aggrandization bordering on insanity.

Insightful

That's the spirit. Enjoy.

U seee, this right here is the problem we somalis have. Someone makes an outrageous claim that tarnishes the name of a well known family without providing a shred of evidence, and the only people who speak up against it r fellow clansmen/women of the accused family. Y aren't other sOlers just as outraged....both these men were national hero's right? And I wonder, would the posters above me come to the defense of general daud if the tables were turned?

^ I wouldn't call it slang...the bulk of classical poetry was composed by men who spoke with the 'dh' variant. But I do agree that the 'r' has become much more common place in writing.
-
Ur right dearest Blessed. But I was talking about 'r' vs 'dh' divide in general. Eg, Xidh vs xir, Jidh vs jir. Now that I think of it though the 'dh' is quite helpful as it allows us to differentiate words that would have been the same otherwise. Eg, if we in the north pronounced 'jidh' as 'jir', the words 'body' and 'exist' would be the same with only context making the difference discernable.

Ur gonna love it.

N.O.R.F;904354 wrote: ^Mudug uses the r? Yes, in in the vast majority of Mudug, if not the all of it, they use the r.

N.O.R.F, i've seen many argue that standard Somali is the one spoken in Mudug (which uses the 'r' btw), as it can be understood easily in almost all regions of the country, and can be used in writing/media.I had a hard time digesting this since I always believed that northern somali had a linguistic richness unmatched by other regional variations of the language. But considering how a lot of Somalis find the reer waqooyi accent so strange (hence the term Q.A.ldaan), i think there is some credence to the claim that the Mudug dialect is the standard.
-
I think the convention among most accomplished somali writers is to use the 'r' instead of the 'dh'. That's the trend i've been noticing as of late, even with writers from northern 'dh' dialect communities. Personally I still use the 'dh' though.
