Why is it pathetic? You may be projecting your own issues with clan on to us, but some of us are healthy enough to discuss clans with out it devolving in to primitve chest beating and skull cracking.

I think it can be more accurately be described as 'regional looks'. My mother for example has the ability to in rare cases tell which region someone is from, and by extension the likely clan they r from, just by looking at them. I think I may be slowly catching on to these subtle differences too.

I'm as Somali as one can get for someone who was almost born in Canada. I speak, read and write effortlessly in my mother tongue and have a good grasp of Somali history and cultural norms. I identify as a Somali-Canadian, and not as a Canadian-Somali. But I do love Canada, and am grateful for the life it has given me and my family and the countless other Somalis fleeing the civil war.

Alpha Blondy;910652 wrote: ^ OLDBOY is one of the classics. awesome movie. any Hollywood remark will never come close to the original. remember how they ruined 'infernal affairs' with its cosmetic remark 'departed'...... the deliberate showings of human genitalia in Hollywood movies is a far cry from the 'authencity' it seeks to achieve. this most recent phenomena is the work of the liberal media in their attempts to over-sexualise audiences. more interestingly, perhaps, laakin, is this feud between spike lee and jamie foxx over the movie's 'portrayal' of slavery. foxx has attacked lee in several interviews - saying that lee's comments were 'outdated' and uncalled for. but are they are outdated? i tend to think otherwise. the Hollywood machinery continues to denigrate black people in the most negative ways imaginable. the portrayals of blacks is often reworkings of the same, narrow and indeed one-dimensional stereotypes. lee wasalso to 'critical' in his views. his views which have become the 'bread and butter' of the all too familiar ''aniga og-conscious-back-to-basics-Afrocentric-lazy-thinking'' that seems to reek from those self-righteous black folks. certainly there has to be a middle ground but the last thing we needed was a public feud between two of our best Hollywood A-list celebs. the whites are laughing at us. +1. But Alpha based on what do you use the word 'we' when speaking of black people in America. I for the most part identify as black, but then I can't help but to question for a number of reasons the rationale behind including Somalis in to this broad, and arguabley meaningless, categorization. It's not the commonalities between Somalis and other blacks that subsumes Somalis under the term, as there are practically none, but our collective otherness to the white superstructure, and our subsequent shared experiences as a result of this othering. But if it's only our plight in the western world that binds us together, and not a common history, culture and for the most part religion, what then is the justification for calling Somalis black, a term mind u that was never used by our forefathers to self-identify?

Alpha Blondy;910640 wrote: based on this admission alone, we can assume with some certainty Somali-Canadians, are still largely dependent on the whites for handouts in survival. what's more, it can also be deduced with some level of accuracy, that these high levels of dependency go beyond the social sphere but also provide an explanation as to the high crime rates among Canada's impoverished Somali community. still a community in a state of flux: unsettled, neglected and fragmented in both attitude and orientation, Somali-Canadians are a long way away from achieving the ''Canadian dream'' Alpha, first of all I was joking and second of all at the time I was a broke student. Alhamdulillah i've graduated now and have a solid career. And besides there was never a 'Canadian dream' in the same way people speak of the 'American dream'. America has always been, before the economic downturn that is, the greater land of opportunity compared to it's neighbour up north. But overall Canada does afford one myriad paths to success if they have the know-how and drive to to take advantage of them.

It's not that something is wrong with Somali poeple, it's that something is wrong with Somali parenting in the western world. They raise children here as though they were still living in Somalia, and this has been a critical critical mistake and it's effects are now there for all to see. These parents were naive enough to believe u could have 7 kids, raise them in a run down crime infested and poverty stricken neighbourhood and that all would be fine and dandy.

This IQ test assumes some exposure to formal education and familiaitry with western modes of thinking and conceptualization of problems, so one has to take the results with a grain of salt. Somalis are definitely an intelligent group of people, at least when viewed as inviduals and not as the retarded collective we form lol.

Haatu, our freind Stoic is from the same hot blooded subclan as faysal cali waraabe, so it's not in his genes to be a passivist. But i'm not a part time somaliwayn. I believe in unity as long as it will be done right, with all the neccessary checks and balances and satisfies all parties. Until then Somaliland should stay it's current course.

I meant Somaliland as in dhulka uu ingriisku gumaysan jiray. Maad diidan tahay inaad dhulka somaliland laysku odhan jiray aad dagantihiin? Anyways, waaban idiin hiilinayay ee maxaad igu haysataa. Soomaali waxay ku maahmaahdaa doqon ha u gargaarin hana gargaarsan.

But I do and have always agreed that no group should be forced to join somaliland's secessionist ambitions, just like no group should try to prevent or undermine their secession. Live and let live.
