  1. True i c wat ur saying. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't go back to grade 11 if i had a time machine haha. Laakiin alxamdulillah calaa kulli xaal.
  2. If u have responsibilities such as school debts, family obligations and the intentions to start and maintain a new family....then yea it is kinda too late to go back and do something as ambitious as medical school no matter how much u want it.

  4. hahaha....not a bad attempt. But translate sand as 'ciid' and dweller as 'gale'.

  6. I know right? The funny thing is non-Somalis r usually more accurate in geussing where im from than my fellow Somalis. It's mind boggling.
  7. 'Kashka iyo laabta ka soo go'day' would be the closest phrase to use I believe.
  8. ^ especially when it's a fellow Somali who should know better.
  9. Im a sand-dweller...but people think im eritrean, egyptian, ethiopian or african American. My blood boils anytime ppl think anything but a Somali.

  12. Ur right Qansax, it's a risk either way. But here's the difference, you won't suffer from the same pangs of regret for investing in a family member who does u wrong as u would a so called friend. If u waste time or money on a family member and u recieve nuthing in return, u can rationalize it by telling urself u did it cuz it was fams.....but wat will u tell urself when a friendship u put a lot into goes awry through no fault of ur own?
  13. Triple my current salarly and I'd consider myself rich. I don't need millions to live the life I want.
  14. No one comes close to Imaam Al-Xaram Al-Shareef Sacuud Al-Shurayyim.

lool, ok let's try again. In the Somali culture the siblings and cousins of ur grandparents are also considered to be ur grandparents. Also in the Somali culture u can consider someone of the same clan as you to be a cousin. So since Aaliyah and Oba's grandmother hail from the same clan they r cousins. This means Aaliyah can also be considered Oba's grandmother in a ceremonial tribal sense, as opposed to through close blood relations.
  16. Qansax walaalo, U r lucky to have two true friends, because that's more than most people have. Like urself I have many situational friends, but only 2 people who I can consider to be like my brothers. Maybe ur right about things changing in our generation, because most relationships nowadays seem superificial and transient. That's exactly y I keep my energies focused on cultivating solid bonds with my family members, because I know those will be forever till death do us part (unlike most freindships and marriages nowadays).

Since Aaliyah and Oba's grandmother are ilmaadeero because they r both khaatumites (euphemism for certain clan), this makes Aaliyah Oba's grandmother in a tribal sense.

I just realized I was mixing up ur situation with another scenario, where lets say u buy a cup of coffee and then u scratch the cup and win money or a prize. This would be xalaal since theres no gambling involved watsoever, since ur intention was just to buy coffee. But ur right, ur situation is xaraam because the company u work for (or who ever bought the tickets) gambled on ur behalf, making the money u won proceeds earned through unlawful means.

lol, did u even read wat i said? Since u didnt gamble any money how is it xaraam? Ask any imaam and they'll give u the same answer as me.

Oba u gave away the money for no reason because it wasnt xaraam since u didnt buy the lottery ticket. Something only becomes gambling if u put up some of your own money and risk it in order to win more than what u put it in. In your situation this wasnt the case...u basically just won a prize, a xalaal prize at that.
