I think am gonna give the next guy who comes calling for female relative a heart attack like "sorry mate, no offense but I don't need your yarad, give it to granny over there, just give me your clearance cert from the health department" Wallahi ur right....that's exactly what im gonna do, followed by a whole slew of other very difficult questions. I love my sisters and aunts to death and if something like that happened to them i'd skin the guy alive and roll in him around in salt.

^ No need for such testing if someone is chaste and follows the diin. But if that's not the case I agree, testing is a must.

Let’s not indignify Djiboutians for some triflying atypical observations you’ve so made to the poster: I concur w/NGONGE (for once! & hope he doesn't come back w/the madness factor)! Ur right Raula, I was a bit out of line. But there is no denying that they r more culturally lax than other Somalis, I stand by that.

Alpha, I may be single but I consider myself a marriage guru of sorts. This whole notion of a person having to live a particular reality to speak on it is ridiculous. Does one need to have a criminal record to study and speak on criminology?

Mutca is widely practised in shia communtiies, and is religiously sanctioned by their scholars. Fort Sunnis it's been outlawed since the battle of Khaibar, where the Prophet PBUH forbade Mutca marriages and the eating of horse meat on the same day. Alla Iran maxaa laguu raaxaystay ....inkastoo raxaadaas qoomamo ka danbayn doonto.

This practice is not common in Somaliland and frowned up by the society....if you knock up a girl in somaliand you are damned and known, if you are in xamar you can always say ""Waan khudbo siraystay"" even if its not true! it gets the job done at least. I hear Djibouti is pretty lax with illegitimate pregnancies also. The girl comes home pregnant, and the parents tell her to bring the guy and they get hitched...no biggie.

Roadmap/Democracy a move backwards not forwards?
Wadani replied to SomaliPhilosopher's topic in General
The central question in Somali politics is which system/s of governance can and should successfully be used to administer Somalia. If only one of the three, being Western liberal democracy, Somali traditional Xeer or Islamic shariah, is chosen, how will it effect us both domestically, internationally, and afterlife-ly? If a hybrid of two or all three systems is deemed to be the solution, can they be successfully reconciled in a manner that will not cause injury to the integrity or essential nature of each system? If not, how will we determine which central components of each system we can purge in order to achieve the desired harmony among them? -

Traditional somali standards for female beauty are: midab saafi ah oo noqon kara maariin ama casaan, cirid iyo dibno (bushumaan) madow, ilko cad oo siman, san dhuuban, waji qorqoran, indho waawayn, qoor dheer, timo dheer oo jilicsan ama jileeca xiga, xaad saaran gacmaha iyo lugaha, waa inay dheertahay, dhex dhuuban tahay, hilibna ay ku yeelataa kubabka, gacmaha iyo meelaha kalee xasaasiga ah lol. Maxaan ka tagay?

The evil eye does exist since the Prophet PBUH told us about it in numerous hadiths. But somalis take it too far and many have developed some sort of paranoia thinking that danger lies at every turn as if everyone they meet is a xaasid who wishes ill upon them. What makes it even worse is many of these crazies are not even that special. For example you'll say ur kids are cute to a Somali mom just to be nice, and their face will turn blue with trepidation and force u to say 'masha'Allah', as if otherwise their kids will turn into disfigured trolls within a few minutes. Next time im gonna be like 'Anaaba kaa walaan oo jimankan yaryar ee digirta gubatay u eeg kuu ammaanay, ee raali noqo.' hahahaa.

xabad;918727 wrote: yes they will. sxb there is a reason why assassinations never happen in SL, every person who is something there has bodyguards and they have police protection unit. PL is useless in terms of security, you would have thought they would wake up by now. war iska diciya nimanka. There is no culture of assassination in Somaliland as there is in Puntland. Same with Piracy , even though Somaliland has a long coastline. Anyway, may Allah give the Shaikh Jannatul-firdowsa and may his killer be brought to justice, ameen.

Lidia;917892 wrote: Somalis with foreign names existed back in Somalia before the great escape to the West. One person that comes to mind is the famous General, Moragan. That said, I don't find it an issue if someone wants to give their kid a Western name- as long as it does not contradict Islam. I also believe that it is smart to adopt a non-Somali name, because I believe it can help further opportunities. Many Immigrants are now choosing to give their children Western names in order to assimilate into their communities. For example, the Chinese have made it a point to give their children Western names. But the Chinese also have a Chinese name given at birth, which is their actual name. They use the western name just for job/education/assimilation purposes.
