The first translation, with it's over attention to accuracy and superfluous usage of parentheses, is too mechanical, resulting, ironically, in a lot being of it being lost to translation.

Exactly Ibtisam. People don't realize how welcoming Hargaysa is and that many of its inhabitants are Somalis from other regions. Like Ibtisam said, don't call for the destruction of the state and u'll be fine regardless of your views.

Maaddeey;934063 wrote: Haddaan "dalkeenna" ama "dalkannaga" iraahdo, yaa nala leh bey muujinaysaa Dalka?. Ok example, the Somali president is speaking at the U.N and says 'danteena'. Without context it's impossible to tell if he means 'our' including the other nations at the U.N., or if he means 'our', as in exclusively for the Somali nation. But if he said 'dantayada' u don't need context to know he is speaking exclusively of the Somali nation. -

Haatu;933884 wrote: Xaaji, I beginning to believe what Che said about standard Somali. I just noticed that nearly all politicians when they speak (even Siilaanyo) constantly use the hayaha like you said. I just heard Siilaanyo saying "Dantayada" and "Dalkayaga" the other day. There is no other way of saying 'dantayada' and 'dalkayaga' unless one uses the variant spoken in parts of Kilinka where they would say 'dantanaga' and 'dalkanaga'. The 'hayaa' Xaaji was talking about is something else. For example Somalinders would say 'waan imanayaa' while those form Mudug would say 'waan imanahayaa'. Another example 'cunto ayaan cunayaa' vs 'cunto ayaan cunahayaa'. -

NO light at the end of the tunnel. i feel terrible and in a state of confusion.....and not to mention, as if things weren't bad enough already, i now have to host that person i was ignoring yesterday. could life get any worse? i don't know. fcking hell, ma istidhi? A young woman is not a piece of clay u mold to suit u, or make u better, if there is something a man needs to change about himself as an adult its his responsibility to make himself a better man. Marriage is about growing together and finding the best in each other. The best married people complement and complete each other, they change together as they grow as individuals and as a couple in their relationship. Adna goormaad nagu soo aakhiro toostay?

xiinfaniin;933632 wrote: I must disagree with Wadani and Illyria's conclusion , namely that the qab iyo han of Somali race has long died. It is indeed that uncontrolled confidence and pride that partially destroyed Somalia. Governance demands certain surrender of dignity and pride , it requires the superiority of the law, demands that an average Somali man found difficulty to reconcile with his deep dislike of authority. Even in business, the depictions of white man above is observable; news highlights periodically inform a Somali business person has been arrested for breaking county and state laws . that is so i reckon because it is in the nature of Somali to find shortcuts and defy what is perceived to be rigid rules. The daring nature of our people can never be in dispute , the ventures we took on whether it is when we are in a survival mode (the dash to cross the Great Sahara to make to teh western shores), or in yaan lagaa badin mode , we are indeed examples of an african genre that is unique and unmatched ...I love being Somali Xiin, u r right we are unmatched in our daring and intrepid nature. But the desperation of the last two decades has eroded the edifice of our collective pride as a people. Self-hating Somalis were non-existent pre civil war and now it's a plague. Y do u think our women are the cheapest whether in the mosques or the clubs, willing to do anything for some ajanabi attention. Compare this the nomad Somali woman who encountered a faranji and his Somali guide. They were both exhausted and thirsty from their long trek so as Somali hospitality would dictate she offered them camel milk; but she gave the Somali guide the milk first. When he had his fill she then gave some to the saancaddaale. When he finished she took the container and broke it calashaan gaal baa wax ku cabbay. Xiinowww kuwaas hadda aduunyada ma saaranyihin??????

Not anymore Illyria. True Somalis hadda maba jiraan. We no longer have the confidence and superiority complex of the nomads of yore. It's a shame really.

Illyria;933605 wrote: The true Somali is an extremely lazy person, for his dignity does not permit him to do manual work ; he generally employs himself in watching his flocks, or he will lie for hours under a shady tree, his praying-mat and water-bottle beside him, while he drones, to a sort of chant, songs about his former fights and about the stock he has looted. The manual work, meanwhile, is left to the women and the dependants. The Somali is a Mussulman of the Shujai sect and is very religious in his own fashion. In appearance the Somali is an Arab, and sometimes a handsome Arab. Treat him with confidence and consideration, he is cheeri'ul, intelligent, willing to learn, and true to his code of honesty. Treat him harshly or unjustly, he becomes sulky, obstinate, mutinous, and dangerous. He is an excellent scout, a wonderful marcher, and very proud if confidence is shown in him. It would be fatal to the peace of the country if the Somali should be treated with that contempt which is often shown to the black races by Europeans. . lool

The af-soomaali used in this flyer is actually pretty good. They r just missing the letter 'n' in the word 'idiinku' and should've put a space between 'marti' and 'qaadayaan'.
