  2. Safferz, the power dynamics at play don't give use the luxury of remaining silent. Members of a community can retain their right to individuality only from a position of relative strength. Somalis are implicated in this crime by association regardless. Putting aside ideals, which will have a better outcome in the real world; a swift condemnation or silence? It's simple really. I know it's humiliating, but we as a people chose humiliation when we toppled our government and unleached hell upon each other and we're now facing the music.
  3. The position of Somaliland is more honest and logically consistent than that of these stealth seccessionsts engaged in perpetual opposition and sabotage, whilst shamelessly hiding behind the blue flag.
  4. Waxay baddaleen Cabdi Haybe iyo Boon Xirsi.
  5. My job has a prayer room alhamdulillah. Like those above me said, urs will probably have one too.

And you have the audacity to talk about knowledge about Somaliland region Siyaad's war on SNM was not based on clan hatred, nor are Somaliland's ocassional skirmishes with the Khaatumo rebel outfit. Both are/were purely political.

And I was only kidding, the HY do reside in the environs of Wardheer but the majority of the town is OG. Along with the HY, there are other minorities such as the Puntites and Khaatumites. It's an interesting area, as it forms a clan border of sorts for all the mentioned clans, and is the only region where Durriyadda and Puntites live in such close proximity to each other.

  10. Marksman;978497 wrote: Really Haatu? How many women work at Dahabshiil for instance? How many women are district officers in Mogadishu? How come the quota of women in the government wasn't reached? How come women are more illiterate than men in Somalia? Etc. etc. There are more women in Somalia than men. Women are held back there. The poorest and most backward of nations are always those that keep their women from reaching their potential. With this said, Somalia is making great strides in giving women a fair chance. Much more is to be done and this will make the recovery of Somalia even faster. Smh.

The H@rti clans were part of the reconciliation conferences in the north. Most of them may not support seccession, but they all opted for peace in the 90's when those conferences were being held. In fact, they played a big part in making peace between the warring is@@q factions during the 90's.
  15. Oiler;978357 wrote: How liberal are you? What's is your views on Gay marriage? Shouldn't the questions be what are your views on homosexuality? A question about Gay marriage implicitly assumes we have no problems with homosexuality, and that the central issue is about the definition of marriage (traditional man and woman vs gay marriage). Since most Somalis are Muslims, the vast majority will have a problem with homosexuality in and of itself let alone the thought of two men or two women being wedded together in holy matrimony.

And keep in mind that you're male, so your experience of navigating public space in the context of gender separation is going to be drastically different and *privileged* compared to mine. You can't call BS on someone else's experience. It has become more conservative, ur right.
  17. Haatu;978351 wrote: You know there's a funny story I heard recently. There's a local sheikh who teaches women the qur'an. One day a revert, white Croatian lady came to him asking him if he could search a husband for her (some people prefer to use wadaad-matchmaking services). He said he would and she left. A month or so later she returned asking for updates. He said: "naa wax ku guursado waan soo waaye, dhib malaha anaa ku guursan" Kulahaa wax ku guursado ma jiraan in a city teeming with bachelors He married her shortly thereafter. hahaa...raggeedi.

But I do think societies where gender segregation exists (whether it's strictly imposed like Saudi Arabia, or the sort of separateness that's considered culturally appropriate in places like Somalia/SL ) tend to have abnormal gender relations and produce men like this. I feel more objectified in an abaya in Hargeisa than I do in a tank top in Toronto. I call bull on that. The gender relations considered appropriate within the Somali cultural context strikes, in my opinion, the perfect balance between the segregation which exists among the Arabs and the absence of any inter-sex norms in the West.

Xildhibaan Ibrahim ''Buubaa'' Mahdi, an MP from Wadani Political Party, is a thug raised in the slums of Calaamadaha area. some say he was suckled by a she-wolf. he was a glue-sniffing ciyaal suuq before becoming an enforcer for the old mayor of Hargeisa (also sand dwellwer). he was elected as an MP, thereafter. caajib. a CV that impressive..... you'd think the place was Xamar or something, you know. ;) he ought to be arrested but is protected by parliamentary immunity. apparently, he will be subject to disciplinary action................. how will the sand dwellers justify such behaviours baal? it's always been their trademark, anyway. i'm not surprised, ruunti. while the rest of us try to build this democracy, some folks are only interested in violence and thuggery. it's their nature. i'd hate for this MP to be from my clan. i would be ashamed...........but my sand dweller friends thinks otherwise. i called them with the view of getting a condemnation, but all i got was excuses. again, not surprised. Waar ninyahow, don't hate cuz u know it's the sand-dwellers that stand between Somaliland and annexation by Somalia. With out Hy and Sand-dwellers who would defend this hellhole called Somaliland. Isku xishood and pay homage to geesiyaasha iyo halyayada Somaliland. loool.

  22. Viva malaaqyada!!! Waan taageersanahay. Rah@nwayn will no longer play second fiddle to the geel-jirayaal or tolerate being sidelined in the new political dispensation of Somalia.
