  1. Hello guys, happy 2017. 365 new chances.
  2. Daamn it's going so slow. I thought you would have your results by now.
  3. @Tallaabo said: Adoption kulahaa, huuno maryoolaydu kuway dhashay ayay meel u hayn. Lol true. The woman in the video takes care of 6 orphans as her own while she's poor. That's a form of adoption takes an extraordinary person.
  4. This is outrageous to see the rights of the orphans being abused and how the corrupt government doesn't care about them. How do Somalis view adoption. Recently I saw a video on Youtube where babies were abandoned on the streets and it was heartbreaking to see.
  5. Galbeedi glad that my results were helpful and informative to you. Since you are a Canadian be cautious and choose wisely because Canada is the only country where it's legal for your genetic and health results to be used against you. 23andme:''Currently there are no protections for Canadians against discrimination based on their genetics - life insurance companies and employers may request an individual's genetic information or may ask whether an individual has had a genetic test.''
  6. Have you read about the 4500 year old man found in the mota cave in Ethiopia. http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2015/10/first-dna-extracted-ancient-african-skeleton-shows-widespread-mixing-eurasians Indeed we would know alot more about the people who have lived in Somalia and their whereabouts.
  7. Maakhiri great that you want to participate and share your results. Curious to know whether you will beat me with 100% lol ? One thing I want to mention about the 23andme is that it searched for how much of a Somali I am since they used Somali people as a reference it’s the reason I scored so high. It's great for anybody who wants to know wether they are an ethnic Somali. With Gedmatch which is free it doesn't use Somali people as a reference it goes beyond your Somaliness therefore you will get a detailed admixture of your DNA. For the US only. You can get a free kit through The African Genetics project of 23andme. Make use of the good deal. https://blog.23andme.com/23andme-research/the-african-genetics-project/
  8. Maakhiri - Okay that might be it I didn't look from that perspective. Thanks for the valuable information Che - Haha my ancestors are spread over the world. I have bantu in me too through West Africa lol. From seeing my result I believe we are an amalgamation of different groups who eventually settled in one place and became one group the Somali. While I was google searching about the puntDNAL African only calculator I stumbled upon a genetics forum. There were 2 Somalis who had similar African only admixture results. By the way the creator of the puntDNAL calculator Abdullahi Warsame is also on that forum. Here's the link: http://www.anthrogenica.com/showthread.php?6454-Central-East-Africans-puntDNAL-K8-African-only-Oracle-results
  9. @Che -Guevara said: Blue, I guess my question are ethnic Somalis a unique group or amalgamation of many groups that eventually became one group? I know three people that did ancestry.com test, they are all a mix of Bantu, Middle Eastern and North African. I might do 23 and me test and see their results. This might answer your question. I used a puntDNAL African only Admixture calculator on Gedmatch which only focuses on the African part of your DNA and this was the result. Google came to the recue I didn't know any of these places except Congo lol Benue Congo - Origin of the Bantu people Eastern HG - Eastern Hunter-Gatherers Southern HG - Southern Hunter-Gatherers Miyir, Che was right. My 23andme result was 50% speculative. My results changed when I uploaded my raw DNA on Gedmatch. Gedmatch goes deeper into your DNA and therefore gives you better accuracy. This was my result.
  10. Sub-Saharan African - Sierra Leone, Luhya, Yoruba, Maasai, Biaka Pygmies, Mandenka, Bantu, Mbuti Pygmies, Ethiopia, Somalia, Ghana, Nigeria, San, Eritrea, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Liberia The above countries are further broken down under East African, West African, Central & South African. Basically they leave out everything that's 0% although you can optionally unfold your results so you can also take a look at your complete results with all of the zeros included. Che can you take another look I updated my two initial posts. After taking another look I think your theory holds true except instead of bantu i'm 97.3% an ethnic Somali. What do you think of my result?
  11. East African - Maasai, Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea Broadly Sub-Saharan African - Couldn't find out North African - Palestinian, Bedouin, Mozabite, Egypt, Palestine, Morocco, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Jordan, Yemen, Kuwait, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates Broadly European - Italy (Sardinia) South Asian - India, Pakistan What I found out was that most of my DNA relatives were from Wardheer. Which was no surprise since my roots lie there. What I didn't expect and surprised me was to find out that I had 2 distant relatives who are Italian. There you have it i'm 99.4% African
  12. @Maakhiri1 said: Blue, I have received the kit, not one, but ordered two, with 20% discount, but not sent my saliva specimen yet. There is a problem, a legal problem, where I am , I have to fully disclosure my full health report to health and life insurer!! I wish I knew this before I ordered the kit, or 23and advised me about this, It is a problematic, and no matter what is in the report, could discriminated against!! Che, Holac and Maakhiri my results came in yesterday!! Maakhiri where do you live? For the people who had to choose ancestry + health when buying because ancestry alone wasn't available. For those people including me they ask you for your preferences before they download the results into your account. You can choose from ancestry or ancestry + health or both. Whatever results you pick that's what they are going to download in your account. For more information you can contact 23andme.
  13. Holac is it true that Hilary won the popular vote and Trump the electoral college vote and thus that made him the new president? Is it true that one who wins the popular vote is the new president? There's a petition going on to make Hilary the president.
  14. It's been 3,5 weeks. The wait is over. Step 1: Register your kit – CHECK Step 2: Successfully registered; track your kit to the lab – CHECK Step 3: Sample received at the lab – CHECK Step 4: DNA analysis – CHECK Step 5: Computing - CHECK Step 6: Results ready Maakhiri how far along is your sample?
  15. Mooge it's more then gorgeous. I'm still admiring the beauty. It even has Siri, just mind blowing! Take a look at the performances and specifications. Wow! I'm loving it and want a Macbook pro 13. Mooge didn't know you were also into Apple products. High five Mooge what do you think of the Iphone 7?
  16. Those hidden voters are hidden racists. Deep down they know that Trump is wrong hence why they hide their preference and decided to support him on the down low because of the racist in them. Their racist side got the best of them. Mooge it's good to have a filter and not say everything that comes to your mind.
  17. Maaddeeeeey!! Wacalaikum salaam. Welcome back. How are you and what have you been up to?
  18. I'm so schocked, what happened to America. How did this happen. Oh my God this is a very sad day now that the devil is in charge. This doesn't only affect America but also the rest of the world. Che and the others fill me in. Who did you guys vote for. Thank God I don't live there. I so don't wanna be you guys lol My reaction when he was running for president:
  19. A lil update. Things are going fast. Step 1: Register your kit - CHECK Step 2: Successfully registered; track your kit to the lab - CHECK Step 3: Sample received at the lab - CHECK Step 4: DNA analysis - CHECK Step 5: Computing Step 6: Results ready For everyone who's interested in the process once the sample reaches it's destination.
  20. @Haatu said: I would not advise anyone to check for any genetic diseases they might have using these tests (unless they are advised by a health professional to do so as that's different). Some diseases have what is known as variable penetrance, which means even though you might have the genetic defect, you might not necessarily get the disease. Others (such as Huntington's disease), only manifest themselves in later life. So if you do carry such a genetic defect, do you want to waste the healthy remaining years of your life worrying about what the future holds? It's just not worth it as there's nothing that can be done anyway if it's found out you have a genetic mutation. It's best to not know, keep living your normal life and leave the future with Allah. Blue, the book is in Af Soomaali and can be purchased here: http://www.loohpress.com/product_info.php/cPath/49_129_147/products_id/1907 And if they do not ship to outside of the UK, you can try Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Taariikhda-Afka-iyo-Bulshada-Soomaaliyeed/dp/0993431321/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478390468&sr=8-1&keywords=cabdalla+cumar+mansuur About the DNA health I share the same thoughts as you. Just because you are a carrier of a certain disease/condition that doesn't mean you will get it. Maybe not everyone knows about this but I do. It's nice to know the things you're at risk for and be able to take preventive actions. I read that diet is the number one key that switches a gene on and makes a certain disease/condition active. Genes can switch on and off depending on the conditions that present itself in the body. So when you are a carrier you have the gene but it's turned off that is until the right conditions present itself so it can be active which is always through bad diet. Which also means that an active gene can be turned off with the right conditions which is through a healthy diet. Inflammation caused by food is what opens the door to every disease/illness/condition especially chronic inflammation. Not many people know about this. Preventing is better then curing. In the end it's Allah who decides whether you will get something or not. So therefore I wouldn't even stress about it. I use Amazon UK so i'll try that link. Thanks for the links Haatu.
  21. Hello AB. My plan is to remove Mac OS X and replace it with Windows through bootcamp. I don't want both of them to co-exist via partition. I can imagine that it takes alot of space and slows down the whole performance which gives you problems. That's what I was avoiding in the first place. I've done partition on Windows on my old laptop. It started giving me the same problems you mentioned and I solved it by removing the extra partition. After that things went back to normal. For that reason I don't wanna do partition again. There's not alot of people who have Windows on their Macbook. Therefore i'll call Apple support and ask a computer expert because I still wanna do it. Thanks for your input it's much appreciated.
  22. @Maakhiri1 said: As for the DNA, will they show health concerns? disease predisposition? Thanks for the video and links. Yes only if you chose the option ancestry + health. For Europe the only option is ancestry + health. For the US you can choose either ancestry alone or ancestry + health. According to the website you can view over 100 health conditions and traits. They are broken down in 4 categories: inherited conditions, drug response, genetic risk factors and traits. Check it out: https://www.23andme.com/en-eu/health/ Guys, where can I get Cabdallah Mansuur's book on Somali history? Is it in English or Somali?
