Prominent Alshabab leader surrenders himself to Authorities
somalee replied to Che -Guevara's topic in Politics
Lol, I hear Aideed has been ''beatified'' and now is fondly referred to as The Saint. I think the ''Sheikh'' is more deserving of that title. I understand how difficult it is for a community to surrender one of its most prominent members. -
He will be pardoned and welcomed. At least he has the title ''Sheikh'' and he used distorted verses of the Quran to justify the massacre of innocent civilians. These are communities where murderous warlords are revered. Warlords who neither were Sheikhs, nor needed Quran to justify their actions. I see the ''Sheikh'' elected as the mufti.

The man is with his ''ehel'', he has come to retire peacefully. He's not any different from the murderous warlords that are respected in these communities. Any thought of the ''Sheikh'' facing justice should be perished. -
This is the lifeline of hundreds of thousands of Somalis, not only in Somalia but in other parts of the world as well.

Genius. I never said those things. Go back to my original post Mr. Genius, and anyway who says only Muslim/Somali related topics should be discussed here?

What lessons has life taught you ? / your life 'philosophy'
somalee replied to OdaySomali's topic in General
Life has taught me that reciting qur'an really brings tranquility and peace in one's mind. I have also known that honest friends are much more important than relatives. -
May Allah have mercy on the souls of those brave men who fought for independence. The poet Abdullahi Suldan Timacadde was one of the greatest Somali patriots of all time, if not the very greatest. May Allah have mercy on his soul. Amin.

I don't think their language can be classified as just a ''different dialect'', waa luuqad gooni ah. -
It's not the facility that's important here, its the whole criminal justice system that needs to be changed. Inmates will easily pay their way out, or the authorities will be lenient on 'Laandheere' members and members of certain clans. What's the point of spending millions on a prison facility when the rest of the system is rotten?

That will mean an acknowledgment of atrocities committed, which will also mean the willingness to return looted properties.

Jubbaland and SFG conference will be held in Ethiopia addis ababa

The only thing he controls is Villa Somalia and the many posts he continuously offers to his clansmen. -

It will be a set back for the SFG , the govt will indeed insist to hold the conference in Mogadishu. But lets see how this develops for now the SFG appointed a new ambassador to Ethiopia. The president doesn't have real, valid argument against the formation of Jubbaland. That's the problem. -

This will be a start of a string of conferences, the second will be held in Nairobi, 3rd Garissa and 4th Garowe. Lol. -

Silly and risky to work in Mogadishu now, unless you are working inside Villa Somalia ;-)

Thank you all for your replies. I just wanted to know generally if Islam is against English/Western names. I hate Abdi names, unless its joined with a name of Allah that's rarely used, Abdelbaqy, Abdelqudus etc sounds exotic.

The real name of the prophet wasn't Ibrahim, that's the arabic version of his name. His real name was Abaarahiim, which translates to ''Father of mercy''. But Allah has mentioned him in the Qur'an as Ibrahim instead.

Been wondering if naming your child David, Abraham, Moses etc is prohibited in Islam. Abraham is the English version and Ibrahim the Arabic one, but the real name of the prophet was neither Abraham nor Ibrahim. Similarly naming a child Guled or Geedi is only Somali and not Islamic. Since we are not Arabs, I might as well name him Joshua (Josh). Its not different than naming a Somali child Sacuud, Jamal etc. Unless of course there's clear proof in the Quran or the traditions of the prophet (Pbuh) that prohibit English/western/biblical names. Are there?

I think quite frankly, Kismayo shouldn't be ruled over by the H-bloc members, not because they don't deserve but because they can't. They didn't know what to do with one city for 2 decades, even after chasing everyone else out. How could they possibly know what to do with such a vast land as Jubbaland?

Extremely sad that a human being should starve to death. Even sadder when you know this is self-inflicted.
