Abtigiis;773277 wrote: The short and the long of the story is if Somalia is divisible, so is Somaliland. We owe a lot to the hearty support of the SSC people to our struggle whereever they are. They may not be helping materially or may not have the means to do so, but they love the struggle of the Somaligalbeed people from their heart and wish them victory. It is time we show soildarity with them. Abtigiis, you do understand that if Somaliland fails to unite(not talking about the indepedance agenda), so will Somalia fail to unite. If there is no balance within a smaller unit(Somaliland), how will there be balance in the bigger context(Somalia). Proof: the last 21 years of division in Somaliland, have clearly not helped Somalia. That being said. I do agree with the analysis of ibrahim Dhagaweyne that I have posted earlier, it is right for the Darawiish clan to unite on a clear political agenda based on their interest. And that Taleex is a succesfull step towards restoring balance within SSC region and inshallah within Somaliland. Only then they can have political leverage in Somaliland and this is stepfoward towards a wider concensus, balance and real unity in Somaliland.

Every family or people's have their fair share of fighting and argueing. But like in a families someone decide's to accept reality, listen, stand up, reach out and set the good example. Like an older brother does when fighting with his little brother. Like an older brother interveres and mediates, shows loyalty and puts his own issue and point of vieuw on the background for the greater good. So that balance is restored, deadlock is overcome, cycle is broken, order is restored and common good appears on the horizon again. Like with families also people's have their older brothers, they are the bridge, the linking pin, the example, the hidden leaders, the weiight restoring the balanc, taking the first step, compromising and holding everyone together. They are not the biggest, not the most visible, not the most liked, not the most wealthy, not the most popular. In Kenya you have the Swahillians, in Scandinavia the Norweigians, in Holland the frisian's, in the Uk the Wales, in Germany the Frankfurters, in Italy the Reminian's, in Spain the Zaragosans, in Somaliland ththe Awdalites, in Ethiopia the Gurage, in Eritrea the Afar's, in Tanzania's the coastal's, in Iraq the christians. Now I wonder who is the older brother in the Somali family? Do we have one? Or we lost him a long time ago? Maybe he is there and hasnt yet acted? If so, when will he act, when will he stand up and show example? Maybe he is wounded, or jailed, maybe he give up on us, maybe he is afraid of us or worse we silced him? Who is the big brother in the Somali family?

Oodweyneh, The question is what will you gain from your hawkish position now? And what kind of unwanted consequences could it lead to? You only look from the current weak position of Somalia. Somethoing that could change in near future and then Chatham analysis could come true of a hostile standoff between Somalia and Somaliland. Wouldnt you say? While on the other hand a more public diplomatic position wouldnt weakong your position now anor lead to future frictions.

yes, on many economic indicators the situation of Somalia improved after the collapse of the Goverment. Does it suprise you? Somalia was a socialistic state with many obstacles for trade, acces to radio/tv/telephone, etc. But also because of urbanisation after goverment collapse many got acces to health, sanitation, etc. The goverment collapse was in many ways good for the poor if you look at some of the indicators. check pag. 12 of the article.

Can Somaliland help the South? At present Somaliland is able to operate independently with relatively little obstruction as there is little in the way of effective government at a national level in Somalia. However, if Somaliland fails to resolve its relations with the rest of Somalia problems are likely to be stored up for the future. Possible challenges include the potential for a spillover of violence from the South, or a future political or military contestation of Somaliland’s right to exist by a functioning central government of Somalia. Though the issue of relations with Somalia is highly contentious, it cannot be ignored. I have been telling this for years. Why wont nobody listen??

Its a sign of weakness when we need foreigners to mediate between us. Lets act as grown ups and talk directly. Mana to mana -

How youu mean he is not bringing any better solution? He said: -Outcome of Conference has to be respected. -Goverment needs to send delegation to Taleex, after conference. -the people of SSC have the lasy say on their land and their wish needs to be respected. -Goverment of SL seems to be putting more value on the land then on the wishes of the people. -Goverment discriminates against SSC folks and doesnt deal with them like they deal with other SL communities. -No elections or referendo took place in those regions. So people were never really consulted. And many more things.
