There was a Somali restaurant nearby back then, can't remember what it was called and they made amazing Lasagna and it was always full regardless what time and day. Peace, Love & Unity. The restaurant on the first floor and with the mobile phone shops on the ground floor? Its stil there, food is really good there.I can recommend their 'federation' dish.

Illyria, even when facing complex problems one need to come with counter arguments or atleast some idea's. Somalia's problems are complex but silence does equal solution.

Taleexi, I think SL policians(not to be confused with clan minded folks) understand that very well. Hence the coming talks with both Khatumo and Somalia's TFG, cooperation with Somali region and Djibouti. And some SL folks even opposing secessionism. But have you read anywhere a Puntlander suggesting merger with Galmudug, uniting Galkacyo, Or what to do win back trust of SSC, Maakhir, western Puntland? Or how to repair or improve Puntland except that oil money will solve everything.

There was no dispute over the clear ownership of the biggest region in terms of majority principle and never was in the history. These guys who wrote this communique are Pro Puntland. The first group to endorse were the Sanaag folks. Clan and Politics aint the same. And Makhirians are one the few Somali's to grasp and understand politics.

Somaliland president Ahmed Siilanyo reshufles his cabinet
Carafaat replied to Xaaji Xunjuf's topic in Politics
The Sage;804019 wrote: I'm pretty sure that's not the reason for the reshuffle... Just before the Londen Conference the cabinet was split on Somaliland's attendence. And Somalia and Foreign Affairs are Siilanyo's domeign. Guess who were against the Ldn Conference? -
Dont think he was talking about Cities governed by 2 or 3 federal clan administrations. Nor was he talking about clan based security institutions As the PIS. But rather a model with strong regional inclusice States.

Puntland's current clan based structure is unsustainable. We know that by now. Even when Somalia recovers, clan based structure's and institutions will not work. But why do its intellectuals decide to remain silent and dont come with idea's how to progress or transcend the current situation?

Good move by Siilanyo to remove anti-Unionist members of his cabinet. Mahamed Hashi and Ismail muumin Aar were the biggest opponents of a Union. -
President Shariif is right to maintain good relations with neighbour Ethiopia, while at the same time reaching out to new int players in Somalia. UK, Kenya, Turkey are only some of the new players. Zenawi's dominant role in Somalia has diminished permanently thanks to Shariif's diplomatic skills and foreign policy.

Folks seem to be getting more critical of Faroole and blame him for everything. But nontheless fail to come up with some real tangible solutions. Thats because its not Faroole's fault but something bigger inherent to the system he is residing over. One cannot close the eyes for it.

General Duke;802995 wrote: I think some folks need to grow a backbone. Federalism and devolution works to empower people, thus how can one take advantage of the system if its not central and if the regions have more say. If Hargaysa, Garowe, Belwedweyne, Kismayu and Marka have more local powers, how could one region take advantage of them? The idea of decentralization is to create checks and balances so that power does not fall or is localized in one area. Puntland does not covet anyone’s land or resources. Thus why are the North Western afraid? Why do they spend so much time running away from the truth? Why is the triangle not enough for them? These are the questions that they have to answer. For if as you claim our land is “desert” and we are but just “clan enclaves” and what have you. Its puzzling why you are afraid to compete in a system which will guarantee you autonomy as well as on the individual level access to other region? The secessionists seem to be suffering from deep seated inferiority complex. Their leaders like Warraabe and elders like Bur-Madow are crying out loud. It’s as if they have no chance of competing with Puntland head on, that they are somewhat deficient in the darks arts of Politics. Somaliland has not been recognized and its clear now that it will be highly unlikely to ever break away from the republic. Thus the only alternative is a federal system which gives its regions autonomy while being part of a center. I believe it is high time the secessionists gained more confidence in their lands and people and tired to compete head on. All this defeated talk and wailing is so un-Somali. Federalism and decentralization? You clearly dont understand anything from governance. The idea of decentralization is you decentralize task from the center to the regional/local. In Somali case thats a great Idea. For example, one can argument that oil exploration could be done regional or local admins. Federalism assumes you are a sovereign entity and you transfer some of your sovereignity together with other Sovereign entities to a Federal authority. In this can one can say immigration(deportation of fellow citizens) is a State affair, Piracy and maritime robery is a State affair, printin fake Somali money is a Somali affair, seperating and creating borders and border control is a State affair, oil exploration is a State affair. In all these issue's the Somali central goverment cant intervene if States dont hand transfer mandate of it to the central goverment. What is the next State affair, Assasinations of Sheicks by the PIS? And do you really expect us Somali's to wait and see what shamefull practise you come with next and disgrace us further on the world stage? Shamefull policies, shamefull politics walee. It needs to stop. And folks need to distentiate themselves from these criminal activities, for there will be a day of reckoning. And all Somali's will remember those who stand on the wrong side of things.

Or was that another fictitious tales to impress people? The U.S. is more than 50 states and one can travel throughout without any issues or borders. Why would there be borders between Puntland and Banadir or Somaliland and Puntland? Again you need up your game. The asinine claims and contradictory life stories are becoming a bore. Only hate could drive a man to mention Galkacyu, a City he knows nothing about on every thread. Its an obsession that borders on the absurd. I hope you find help for this sickness because it will consume you. Hating Galkacyu specifically and the rest of Puntland generally will do nothing to the State. It will break you. Puntland deported Somali's from certain clans back to South Somalia while they let all those Ethiopians stay. Even Somali's deported from Arab countries can get off the airplane unless they are from the right clan. Shame, shame, shame.

General Duke;803012 wrote: The secessionist game is up. They are afraid cause in their eyes the Triangle of Burco-Berbera-Hargaysa is not enough. They don’t have any confidence that they would be able to compete against the major populations of the rest of Somalia. Hence all the bravado has come down to. They are the only ones who deserve autonomy and they are the only ones who are not a clan region but based on the warm memory of the British colonials. Sxb, some have agricultural land, some have Kismaayo, some have Muqdisho, some have a actual working goverment, you have oil. Stop crying, you can buy your own State or a proper goverment

Duke, I love Puntland so much I dream of a centralized United Somalia including Puntland . So I can come visit from Xamar. No clan regions,no borders between us, so we can visit eachother everyday and everyone lives where he/she wants. I even consider a beach cottage in Hafuun, once those Pirates are removed from the Somali Sea. But why are you for a seperated Galkacyo? And why do want Federalism so bad?Dont you trust other Somali's to share regions, countryt and a central State. Must you have sovereignity over only half of a city.
-
Faroole opposed the 4.5 not because it did unjustice to 0.5, because he wanted to secure more seats through a region based system. This would allocate more to the most thin populated regions of Somalia, Bari, Nugaal and Mudug. Divide this afcourse by the hol trinity, what you would get is a Parliament dominated by Pirates. Some really have nostalgic for the 60's.

Duke, as your leader why he is afraid to organise real elections? Why is he afraid of one Somalia with one man one vote? Rather then trying to manipulate things in Garowe without even other "States" being present, except for his Siamese twin Caalin. Secure as many seats as possible away and trying to create the a farce structure in Garowe in all haste. Not really a Federalist attitude, wouldnt you say. Somali's have been silent for too long. People need to speak up against these farce opportunistic behaviour. Otherwise we will never create a better Somalia.
-
Duke, which states exist in Somalia today and tell us who elected them? Which Somali citizen in Bosasso, Qardho, Garowe and Galkacyo has elected Faroole? Which folks in Galkacyo elected in Caalin, who in Hiiraan elected the new guy? Who gave them mandate to speak on behalf of them before they have spoken? Not being elected but named by Qurbojoogs, clan councils and TFG does give them only mandate to restore normalcy, security and maybe organise elections. Thats it, let the people decide what kind of Somalia(Federalsim or not) they want and who they wont in office. It's not up to one man and his clan cousins to decide the future of Somalia. Let the people first choose their real representative's, let them make laws and choose a democratic elected leader. Or do you want every new guy who wants to come in office to shoot, attack Parlimanet(Farooole), attack his predecessor(Cadde Muuse) or fith out wars Ali Jama and Yeey? No to bad policy, No to bad governance, to No clan based whicked ideas.

Those glory times when some saw the goverment as their personal fiefdom is definetly over. And this Federalist concept is your form to institutionlize clan, power and dominance. I think you are afriad of free competition for best ideas and where every man's vote counts. Otherwise wouldnt have tried to secure a great nr of seats before even other Somali's could voice their opinion. You are free to govern your Galkacyo, nobody is holding you back. But what concerns many is that the power hungry clan based lords(never got elected) are still there, with the same ideology of clan over country this time in a suite, with a title and more worrying their objective is this time not tje city or region but the country.
