Such lavish productions have been the norm ever since Al Jawaarix was first made by Dubai TV in the early 90s (though, of course, that was just a fantasy story rather than a biography of an Islamic Khalifa). Al-Jawaarix was an epic...I remember watching it in our black & White screen!! () ...Ha na xasuusin niyaw
  2. Interesting...But Waa sheeko la ogaa, Somalis pre-1990s were faithless and immoral, ,,culture "Dhaqan" was the only bounding entity, once they choose to take take it off, they were "Habar-dugaag". mating at will... I was agitated at the middle of the story, How come a man doesn't defend his honor 'women", its worth to die for,,,but then, What goes around comes around, they were unfaithful and adulterous themselves...Subxanallah,

  4. suicide and euthanasia have no cultural counterpart in af-somali, yet finding direct translation is difficult. "Walaalo loo ogolaaday in ay qudhooda gooyaan Kaddib markii ay Indho-beeleen!" usually "is-dilay" is the colloquial word for 'suicide' in Af-Somali, but in this context 'is-dilay' is causing confusion therefore I would have chosen the above title for my story. Really this one is tricky Oba.... @Salahudin :- Is-daldalay = Hanging himself , not suicide @Wadani = is-halaagay = doomed himself, may be through Tahriib, going to war, burning yourself,,,its non-specific and also Arabic word.

  6. I have read a book called "الداء والدواء" By ibn Qayyim al Jawziyah in 2005, He is a great Islamic asset...I agree with you on this one.. But I will choose "Sayyed Qutb" Quotes from Syyed Qutb "إن الجنس واللون والقوم والأرض لا تمثل الخصائص العليا للإنسان.. فالإنسان يبقى إنسانا بعد الجنس واللون والقوم والأرض ، لكنه لا يبقى إنسانا بعد الروح والفكر!." and one for those who don't read arabic “ Indeed our words will remain lifeless, barren, devoid of any passion, until we die as a result of these words, whereupon our words will suddenly spring to life and live amongst the hearts that are dead, bringing them to life as well.”

  11. Reeyo, Exactly this is what I noticed and mentioned in a previous post on SOL In my latest visit to Hargeisa I decided to make the challenge of crossing the bridge and see where I can go furthest Before I hear Mohamed Mooge.....I walked all the way to Star Hotel I started Bacdal Maqrib ( the Peak of Mirqaan) I was disappointed That I heard no Mohamed Mooge Liibaan...Hargeisa Is losing touch with classical music...For God Sakes they have a whole district named after him.... http://www.somaliaonline.com/community/showthread.php/68431-Mohamed-Mooge-Liibaan-quot-Revered-singer-quot A while ago, I was with a guy who was born and Grew up in Somalia, He was 19 years old , a teenage, to pass time I asked him about his favorite songs, but after asking him I was extremely shocked that he never heard of Cumar dhuule, Ilma mooge or muuse Ismaaciil Qalinle....to his defense he knew about Abuu-cabdilmalik and Abuu cali, a Saudi Nashid singers.......It would have been understandable if he was from Southern Somalia, But he also Grew up in northern Somalia...Unacceptable.

  14. I am multilingual myself...But I strongly support Monolingual policy followed by many states, For instance, Somalia should be monolingual state, albiet non-somali speaking minorities exist, Af-Soomaali should be the State language... Many languages just confuses the mind....Imika my mind thinks in So many different languages.. Religious Issues = Arabic Professional and work related = English Daily life/ Arrimaha reerka/ = Somali... I would have been fine with one only.
