Somalis: The most entrepreneurial people in Africa.....
OdaySomali replied to cadnaan1's topic in General
Wadani;989780 wrote: How so? When compared to the performance of developed and developing economies of the world, we don't fare all that well. To take a few possible indicators, in relative terms Somalia doesnt have the largest or fastest growing economy, nor does it have the most business start-ups, nor does it have the largest and most successful companies or even up and coming SME's. The largest and most successful Somali company, which dwarfs all other companies, was a product of our civil war. The facts don't agree with the case. -

guleed_ali;989295 wrote: I don't know much about her but I'm not too big on the whole "saviour" of Somalia persona. I may be wrong but I would prefer if she kept a lower profile and did her good work. People hype her up like wonder woman but I'm sure there's good people that surround her as well. But all actions are by intentions so may Allah forgive me if I've wronged her. The reason why she chooses to be so visible is because this increases donations to her hospital, to buy expensive equipment, training equipment and to fund the day to day running of the hopital's operations and the field clinics/community nurse-midwifes she has set up in the region. By attending engagements, making documentaries this raises awareness and more people donate. Dani kaa adag. -

Safferz, Yes to Qs 1, 2, 3. But I don't think that answering yes to those questions logically leads to a yes as an answer to your very last question, with which you closed your post. Will respond more when I get a chance, Inshallah.

Somali occupational groups... as identity? Maal Soo-maal (he who milks...lives off milk/meat) Biyo-maal (he who lives off water... fisher and/or farmer) Tum-maal (welder/blacksmith/mason lives of his 'hammer') Baaji-maal (potter & clayworker) Midig-maal (muruq-maal)

And you Somalis are complaining about this? That's a bit rich don't you think.

What lessons has life taught you ? / your life 'philosophy'

Some people will pretend to be helping you, but in reality they just want a better seat to watch you suffer. I used to hear the phrase: "better the devil you know". How true that is. -

Reeyo;980538 wrote: This is one I am struggling with at the moment. What if I don't worry enough and change never comes about because of my attitude?? I've feeling I am going to learn it the hard, which is also a worry! Reeyo if it is something you cannot control, you shouldn't worry about it, because you have to realise it is something you cannot control, yes the consequences from it impact you, but it is beyond your control. So why worry about it? Instead of worrying about it, it is far more productive to take precation and pre-emptive action to deal with the potential consequences of the event that was not your doing. I admit, I do struggle with this one too. -

Mahiigaan;984820 wrote: I don't understand the obsession of Somalis with Mogadishu these days. When I see the new buildings there, I feel sorry not for Xamar but all the towns in Somalia. Somalia is in bad shape, we need architects and structural engineers. Not only are the houses ugly but they are an eye sore with their color mismatches. One step at a time.
