LOL stop smoking whatever it is you're smoking sxb! i had very good day today. it was better than yesterday. LOL i want to organise a peace rally in Hargeisa but i worry some would-be-suicide-bomber would ruin proceedings. i was all up for organising the rally but my lack of local insider knowledge was exposed by the potential of anti-peace elements using the opportunity to cause public disorder and serious harm. reer somaliland are very unique in their cynical ways and rightly so, i should add, about lofty 1st-world mashruuc's like peace rallies and other such public awareness campaigns. i'll do further research but i still reckon the idea is solid. public consciousness is important. people power! yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! LOL

  3. i know mrs Blondy is out there somewhere but i bet she won't be anything i'd imagined. she'll probably be ugly, financially shrewd, wiser, lack spontaneity and everything else i'm not LOL. i know a chick like that but she's local and i don't want to conned into sham-passport-lovey-dovey-BS. naaaaaaaah. single 4 life! LOL
  4. cano geel, what might be useful is to device a category of sorts that will determine a city's overall importance to politics, economics etc and then rank them accordingly. these are my own ratings based on the following criteria: 1. political characteristics 2. economic characteristics 3. cultural characters 4. infrastructural characters Alpha cities - Hargeisa and Mogadishu Beta cities - berbera, bosaso, burao, garowe, galkacyo, kismayo, baidoa, las anod Gamma cities - boroma, erigabo, jowhar, merca, beledweyne, abudwaq and maybe buhoodle

Later on though from 11+ reading become much more interesting for me and I remember loving the Goosebumbs (say cheese and die was my favourite book ever) then Point Horror series. Also found S.E. Hinton and her amazing books beginning with The Outsiders as a spotty teenager. OMG@biff and chip books chubacky the wacky we're probably the same age. LOL

  12. Odey;907752 wrote: This is a Valid question that needs a great deal of soul searching especially by the Communities that make up the majority in Mogadishu. Ideally as the capital city of Somalia ,anyone, provided he/she is a Somali citizen has a right to be elected as the Mayor of Mogadishu. Sadly though the issues that our country went through the past 20 years and the ignorance that has taken hold means that such an endeavor may not be possible today. Change MUST take place, however real change can only come from within. I believe a good education via all the Mediums such as TV, Radio etc where debates are held in which this point is made clear to the locals and their responsibilities as hosts to the Nation is drummed into them will in my view create such an atmosphere. Educating them is the key. We have to roll back the tide of Ignorance. I guess the same could be said for the rest of the country. People everywhere should be educated on the right of a citizen to live, work anywhere in the country with his/her rights protected. This is not a short term plan. i agree. the system they have in south africa is good example worthy of emulating. 3 different cities with each serving a particular function. eg. 1. X1 - executive and internal security agencies 2. X2 - legislative 3. X3 - judicial function - islamic courts - xeer laws and the guurti could be housed there permanent so they don't cause tribal issues for the rest of us! 4. X4 - cultural city - construction of a new iconic modern city that serves a symbolic function. X4 with its literary fairs, film festivals, jazz bars, museums, technology parks would be home to a new elite that could catapult Somalis back into the international arena. 5. X5 - industrial city - etc 6. X5 - Free Zone Area city - etc 7. X100 - Energy city - like Houston of the US. there's a purpose for all so WHY get upset over your city being neglected. damn you Somalis. sparsity of cities would ensure NO single clan controls ALL, once in POWER. this would also encourage diversity of people and the development of the periphery. everything being concentrated within the core and its metropolitan area is NOT conducive to maintaining long term stability. a policy of demographic control (not culling people), distribution and social groups could provide long term stability and prosperity.
  13. coofe, do you think the trend of somali books for children will catch on in the diaspora? i've got loads and selling them is an option ma istidhi?

  15. the islamic empire wasn't the greatest but certainly up there as one of the greats. its often said the islamic empire used the 'soft power' of trade and mantra to spread the islamic faith into new frontiers but i'm convinced more forceful means were used to quell resistance. this is absent from the literature and i reckon there is more scope for developing this area. history has shown where there is conquest, there is also resistance.
  16. i think it was Aladdin and one of his adventures but the first proper book i read was called mercedes ice. i didn't get into reading until 18ish. i love biographies of dictators and political leaders. whilst in uni i developed a taste for reading abstract theories and stuff lol. my old bookshelf. they've probably burnt it by now LOL
  17. interesting. what would you rather be?
  18. thanks for sharing. inspirational story. i dreaded becoming those email obsessed freaks but find myself using it almost all the time.
  19. we'd use the services of atheists too but what benefit do we accrue from these people? NOTHING!
  20. the french were probably advised by a yaakhi Djiboutian guy who was chewing khat the night before. silly french. they did this without hindrance last time and thought they could do it again. typical french. pure arrogance and little regard for the sovereignty of Somalia has meant a sad end to their plans to carry out the operation, unscathed. they are unlikely to repeat this act of aggression again. sad about the lost of life. let's all mourn the dead by joining hands and showing unity. a sad day for all somali irrespective of political leanings. i'm quite sure the somali government consented to this operation. our people deemed irrelevant, our land raped in the most vicious ways, our people disunited and small-minded. woe to Somalis, woe to Somalia!

CLAP CLAP CLAP even the voyeur Lonely Planet guide is better than this pathetic mistake-ridden tour guide, if even that, you've written? you ought to be ashamed of yourself. in one of those classic Frank Gardner moments, the BBC's correspondent, of overpronouncing local places in their local dialects, you CLEARLY demonstrated with the above, that you've no idea of what you're talking about. sxb, respect yourself and the good reputation you've built up through the years.
