  1. ^ pissed off, inaar. i had these individuals ruin my jeudi soir. i worked hard all week so i could somehow enjoy myself. there was a personality conflict with one of the guys. the entire event was ruined. i should have just stay at home. it was a mistake to go Ali's house. persia? not bad? what's next on your travels? you coming to SL?
  2. that anti-climatic feeling you get when your jeudi soir has been ruined....... after all the hype.

I don't know the process of attaining UNESCO world heritage site status, so I can't comment on why Laas Geel and other sites haven't been declared world heritage sites but I'd imagine if the SL government really cared about protecting these sites they would include it in their dialogues with Somalia (since they can sign the UNESCO treaty). What I don't like is the politicization of history and Somali cultural heritage as a diplomatic tool. horta, did i tell you about the time i was employed as a human-goat conflict expert. i was tasked to undertake the root causes of the ever-growing conflict between goats and people. the project was funded by the UN. but the UN required an expert to assess the situation, before releasing the funds to the local NGO, who would implement the project. for the duration of the short contract, i spent my days writing reports, doing needs assessments etc...... BUT i was NEVER allowed to visit the conflict prone areas, as per strict UN regulations. after haphazardly writing a ''neither here nor there spiel''.... which was so far removed from the reality on the ground........ i passed the report on to my colleague in our regional HQ to have it approved......in one of those emerging middle-income countries, which....as i'm sure, you could appreciate has ostensibly benefited from the conflicts between goats and people issues. after several months........ just before the end of the financial year and my contract, i received a response from my colleague.. .... cautiously proposing we ought to send the report to our HQ in New York to have it ''rubber-stamped''. unfortunately, the financial year ended and the project was scrapped due to 'timing constriants''. 2 weeks later, i found another short-term contract.....i was handsomely paid to be a human-sheep conflict regulatory framework consultant ........
  5. ^ alright! its a shame you think and feel this way. i won't go to a place where i'm NOT wanted. ismail said the people were very warm and hospitable. but since you're an expert on deegaanadan as its your neck of the woods, i'll follow your advice and won't even bother to go there....thanks, inaar.

Having lived in the DC Metro area for a while before moving to MN, i like to act out as the SoL resident expert in all things DMV. And as for Somaliland, I dont really have any opinion about it one way or the other. yes! obviously, you have more knowledge of this area than most. this i'm quite certain off.....but it appears Google earth and other related sorts of technologies have empowered these knowledge-endowed-uppity-pseudo-intellectuals in our midst, these days. this is not a substitute for good local knowledge. as for SL, i don't think you should have any opinion about it one way or the other.

  8. ^ oh yeah? actually, inaar..... you could be right, here. this guy Ismail looked very different and you could imagine the nervous breakdown i almost had....upon discovering his clan. why do you think.....i won't like it? should i change my accent and ''do-a-Ismail''?
  9. Saffz, besides american newspapers and their stance....... what do you think of las geel? and why hasn't it been granted this UN seal of approval/status yet? also and more importantly, why aren't you supporting cultural heritage programmes in SL?
  10. ^ Nin-yaban, masquerading your anti-Somaliland sentiments, miyaa, inaar?

  13. ^ my friend ismail, whose a 3rd generation dirta waqooyi from these lands (member of the duriyada from the south), told me about this amazing place, inaar. he said....in the beero, you're accorded the privilege of eating all you can...(think of this as a fruit buffet)...but with the condition, you NEVER take fruits......... from the beero, with the view of selling them for profit.
