  1. These were men from the same era, with similar life experiences, ambition and ruthlessness. It may be hard to imaging how things would have evolved in the country without these men at the helm, but the trio above certainly made its mark.
  2. I understand much of West's rants against Obama seems overly personal, but I am taken aback by Dyson's pedantic behavior here. Dyson himself speculated that West would be unlikely to match his response because of West’s less-frequent written output (“He doesn’t write”). Listen to Dyson's interview below:
  3. Just click on your own username or even avatar to get to your profile page and then click the "messages" link inside your profile page. That is all.
  4. One nomad had a difficulty finding the link to check his private messages. If you are on the same boat and don't know how to check your PM, follow the screenshots below.
  5. Oog = Establish Doog = Recovery Shoog = Shock
  6. Congrats to our sister Munira. I personally know her father, a wealthy Minnesotan who was one of the first Somalis to start a home-healthcare business. He now owns sizeable real-estate and healthcare businesses in Minnesota and Kansas.
  7. That picture is amusing. To me, that imagery conveys a message of dominance, detachedness and self-importance. It is a great picture to highlight the current institutional arrangement when it comes to knowledge production.
  8. It is worse-looking than a warehouse Awoowe. I don't know how to describe it. The Garowe Airport will have a new terminal building, however. The construction starts late this year. I think Abdiweli's government may already be planning what to do about the Bosaso Airport's terminal.
  9. Nuunka, salaan sare Awoowe. I believe the scope is to build a runway only and doesn't include a terminal. The existing building built by Adde Muse's government will be used. That is the only downside of this project.
  10. "The Management of Savagery" gives insight into ISIS' strategy - March 2, 2014 ISIS, Boko Haram, al-Shabab and al-Qaeda have all shown themselves to be brutally effective in their campaigns in the name of furthering their view of an extremist Islamic jihad. The resulting violence in places such as Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, and Nigeria is brutal and bloody. To some degree, each of the groups has been using similar tactics but ISIS in particular seems to be following the teachings of a book published a decade ago called "The Management of Savagery." The book offers a kind of blueprint for militants committed to building a caliphate. Will McCants has translated the text into English. He's a fellow with the Brookings Institution and the director of the Project on U.S. Relations with the Islamic World. He is also the author of the forthcoming book, "The ISIS Apocalypse: The History, Strategy, and Doomsday Vision of the Islamic State." Will McCants was in Washington, DC.
  11. Allaha u naxariisto. The new king is said to be more conservative by Saudi standards. It would be interesting to know the impact this changing of the guard will have on middle east politics and financial markets since Saudi policy heavily influences both, specially the crude markets.
  12. Che, the official list says Sports and Youth Affairs Minister.
  13. 1 - Axmadeey Sheekh Mukhtaar - Wasaaradda Isboortiska iyo Dhallinyarada Hambalyo to our moderator and veteran Miskiiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar and reer Sheekh Mukhtaar dhammaantood.
  14. Great read ya Galbeedi. I'd like to hear the Guru's thoughts on this matter. Are Siilaanyo's endeavors sustainable?
  15. <cite> @samiig said:</cite> ^ this website is messed up i say, forum ka liita ma arkin, full of bugs and errors. lol I hope you can read through Dr Kenney Samiig, what errors are you seeing? The post you made came out that way because you decided to place everything (including your own replies) in a quote. It doesn't seem to be SOL bug Awoowe. For future reference, if you wish to quote a particular comment, make sure highlight/select the comment and press the b-quote button. It is just a click away. After you do that, the comment should look like this before you post it. <blockquote> BLAH BLAH BLAH </blockquote> Please let me know if you notice any issues. We appreciate the feedback.
  16. Omar Abdirashid will be a capable Prime Minister. Previous falling-out with Sh. Shariif was mainly based on policy matters and constitutional changes. That disagreement wasn't driven by clan. We shall see!
  17. May Allah have mercy on them. Safferz, I am familiar with that area of Toronto because I grew up in area right across the Ontario Science Center. The Thorncliffe towers were mostly populated by South Asians back then. Your comment about Seychelles is plausible even though the name "Yusuf Osman Abdille" sounds like a typical Somali name. I have met quite a few Indians from Seychelles. This smells like a horrendous case of family violence.
  18. Hello Somalee Which account are you referring to? Your Gmail account?
  19. In the future, what will echo most when we hear Bill Cosby's name? Will he forever be known as that beloved figure who starred in a groundbreaking family sitcom, was a voice of moral authority on black culture and education and made audiences laugh for decades with his stand-up comedy? Or is Cosby risking a serious tarnishing of that image right now as allegations of rape continue to swirl around him? On Sunday, the second woman in a 10-day span, publicist Joan Tarshis, came forward to tell a story of being sexually assaulted by Cosby. She posted a detailed account on Hollywood Elsewhere of being drugged and abused by Cosby, 77, who has been married to wife Camille since 1964. It's a scenario that has now been told by more than a dozen women, all recounting incidents that happened years ago. On Tuesday, Vice dug up a passage in model Janice Dickinson's 2002 memoir in which she recounted predatory dates with the comedian while in her twenties. By Tuesday night, Dickinson had come forward with more details, alleging rape. http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/people/2014/11/18/bill-cosby-legacy-forever-damaged-rape-allegations/19176659/
  20. Galbeed, your comment is not in our spam list. We do occasionally hear about a comment or two disappearing due to our overactive filtering system to keeps spammers and insults out of SOL, but these filters don't generally target regular comments. The reason why you don't see "prescription drugs" or "purses online" posts on SOL's 1 million comments is because unlike other forums we have automatic spam protection which is heavily enhanced by human interference (Good old traditional moderation). Our emphasis has always been quality over quantity. Awoowe, our apologies if some of your comments have mysteriously disappeared without a valid reason. I shall look into it Galbeedi and get back to you. I will talk with Macruuf and ask him if he has made any edits.
  21. Where did they get the $27,000? The balance on that sheet is less than $2,000. The bill looks reasonable for a foreign minister. If we go by the numbers on that particular statement, the money spent to cover food and shelter is approximately less than $350/day. That is a reasonable spending for a foreign minister who left his comfortable life in the West to help his country. Living in a hotel sucks and I am sure he doesn't enjoy it. Give the minister some slack.
  22. "Doug Ford baan dooranaynaayee, heeey, heeey". Strangely, the song is actually good. Where is Miskiin Macruuf in this video. I was expecting him to be waving the Ford Nation flag.
  23. This is a pretty common engagement DoctorKenney. It all depends on the neighborhood.
