Somali students and intellectuals massacred by alshabab!
Libaax-Sankataabte replied to Eng.Cadde's topic in General
There is absolutely no way to easily comprehend this carnage. It was a decapitation of a whole community with the best of its optimists silenced in one second. Yesterday’s act goes beyond the typical realm of fanaticism and political violence. The lethal methods some Somalis can utilize to butcher the innocent and the helpless all in the name of “attacking the enemy”, is just mindboggling. Ilaahay ha u naxariisto ummaddaan xaq-darrada lagu gumaaday. -
Taxpayers pay for Somalis to live in luxury
Libaax-Sankataabte replied to Ibtisam's topic in General
The UK goverment is saving money in this case. If you split this family into 4 small unemployed families, the UK government would be spending a lot more money. Taxpayers should be celebrating that 9 or 10 British citizens live under the same roof. Just go through the numbers. Also, this is a great investment on 8 wonderful Somali kids that through no fault of their own became British citizens. In general, children that are raised in a healthy environment tend to do well in life. Can you imagine their contribution to the country when they start paying taxes. C'moon UK nomads. Don't be burying you head in shame. Go through the numbers with any disgruntled British hooligan you see reading the Sun. -
Abu Dhabi stock market suffers worst losses in history
Libaax-Sankataabte replied to General Duke's topic in General
Abu Dhabi has the largest SW fund in the world. No country/city has saved more wealth than Abu Dhabi in the last 30 years. This tiny emirate is loaded with cash and other goodies. In that sense, the country of UAE is not going to fall apart because of one company (Dubai World) loosing 60 billion dollars. But I do understand reputation and confidence are not that easy to maintain under these circumstances. Dubai lost prestige. Congratulations on your new babygirl, Kool Kat

Kool, congrats inadeer. Adiga iyo yariiseey ilaahay caafimaad ha idin siiyo. Bash bash iyo barwaaqo idinkoo dhan ku waara. -
Juje, the timing could very well be a coincident. It doesn't look like an orchestrated move. Cadde is well-known to speak his mind. The former president spoke within the confines of a statesman who was asked to shed light on certain issues that are important to his state. I don't think Cadde has the personality to be that bitter to dent the credibility of the state as a whole. He may have his political differences with the current president, but his was, in no way, to bring the “relics” back. He statements were within the acceptable bounds of a former president trying to stay in the limelight.

President Faroole names his son as one of his advisors
Libaax-Sankataabte replied to Thankful's topic in Politics
I would not have advised the president to make this kind of selection. It cultivates that familiar "nepotism" narrative at best, and conjures up an unpleasant image of being out of touch with the feelings of the masses. The selection of his son as an advisor may not be a big deal (we all know the young fella advises his father), but elevating his son's counsel to a “salaried position” can be seen as “naas-nuujin” and autocratic both of which are hardly the stature to build a democracy around. The irony of this is that the timing of the announcement comes against the backdrop of a bout of bad publicity the administration is already coping with. In the grand scheme of things, I wouldn’t put too much weight into this appointment. This is just a temporary fodder for the Somali fadhi-ku-dirirs. As the son has already pointed out in that above radio interview, he has as much right to hold a public position as a “muwaadin” as anyone else. Good luck to him. -
This is what Cadde Muuse said: "Ciidamada waxaa ay aadayaan Badda, waxaana ay ku maqnaanayaan mudo, waxaa ay kuu imaanayaan iyagoo aan haysan dhaqaalihi ay ku qaateen afduubka iyagoo kaa codsanaaya cafis. Waxaana idiin sheegaaya in intooda badan la laayay qaarkoodna ay ku xiran yihin xabsiyada” - HORSEED MEDIA TRANSLATION: "Our troops would go out to the high seas and would be away for a while. Then they would come back without the piracy money they recieved and ask for a pardon. I am telling you folks, most of them got killed and the rest are in jail" That statement is more of an account and a reflection of how the former president tackled the sensitive issue of piracy during his reign. That his was a "kill or jail any deserter" policy , is the take away from his proclamation. Whether his approach at the time alleviated or aggravated the problem is certainly a matter open for another debate.

Kian Abouhossein of J.P. Morgan tells folks "don't panic". UAE as a whole is wealthy. The view from our MENA team is that this event reflects cash flow challenges rather than refinancing ability. They believe that obligations on Dubai World and its property unit Nakheel PJSC are likely to be fulfilled at the new May 2010 earliest repayment date, and that Dubai should be eventually be able to fulfill its debt obligations maturing in the short-term ($4bn in Dec-09, relating to Dubai World, and $9 to $10 in 2010) with continued Abu Dhabi support. Abu Dhabi is strong financially with fiscal and current account surpluses, ~$150bn in FX reserves and a ~$300bn sovereign wealth fund. However it seems that Abu Dhabi will no longer be happy to underwrite all debt, and rather will differentiate more strongly between supporting Dubai's strategically important assets (such as DEWA, and Dubai Ports), and the non strategic assets – hence the concurrent timing of the Dubai World debt restructure and the Abu Dhabi underwritten government of Dubai debt raising

Tareq Salahi and his wife crashed the White House State Diner party. The husband and wife took some serious pictures with top lawmakers and celebrities attending the annual State Diner. It was reported that the lady spent 8 hours doing her make-up before the party crash. The couple planned and executed their mission with top-notch perfection. Now everyone is asking how did the Salahis pull it all off. Here is one picture with Vice President Joe "the-party-animal" Biden. Ouch ... A default by Dubai World would be the biggest by an agency of a national government since Argentina halted bond payments on $95 billion US in 2001. The financial crisis has hit the tiny emirate hard, with real estate prices dropping as much as 50 per cent in the past year. In London, British banks with the heaviest exposure to Dubai suffered some of the steepest losses, sending the Financial Times 100 down 3.2 per cent — its biggest plunge since March. Shares of Royal Bank of Scotland fell 7.8 per cent, while Barclay’s Bank ended down eight per cent, and Lloyd’s Bank dropped 5.8 per cent. HSBC, the biggest lender in the United Arab Emirates, fell 5.8 per cent. HSBC had $15.9 billion US in loans outstanding at the end of June. In Germany, shares of Deutsche Bank tumbled 6.8 per cent. The biggest bank in France, BNP Paribas, fell 5.1 per cent, while Societe Generale, the second-largest French lender, dropped 5.5 per cent. S&P/TSX financials fell 1.7 per cent, with Scotiabank slipping $1.15, or 2.3 per cent, to $47.91, TD Bank off $1.34, or two per cent, to $65.84, and the Royal Bank down $1.32, or 2.3 per cent, to $55.88. http://www.vancouversun.com/business/Thursday+Trading+takes+sharp+drop+after+Dubai+postpones+debt+re payments/2273127/story.html

1) American Samoa, 93.5 percent (of population that's overweight) Traditionally, Pacific Islanders ate native foods high in complex carbohydrates and low in fat, such as bananas, yams, taro root, coconut and fish. Since World War II, an explosion of obesity on the islands has corresponded with a rise in migration to the U.S., New Zealand, France and Australia. That began to change dietary habits as family members abroad introduced those back home to Western eating and sent money home, giving locals the means to buy more food. Today, this six-island nation in the South Pacific Ocean tops the scales as one of the fattest in the world. 2) Kiribati, 81.5 percent Between 1964 and 2001, food imports to the least developed Pacific nations, such as Kiribati, which comprises 33 islands clustered around the equator, increased six-fold, according to the Food and Agriculture Organisation, a United Nations agency established to fight world hunger. Those imports led to a huge influx in fatty food and processed meat, such as Spam and mutton flaps (fatty sheep scraps), often sold at lower prices than native food. 3) U.S., 66.7 percent In the early 1960s, 24 percent of Americans were overweight. Today, two-thirds of Americans are too fat, and the numbers on the scale keep going up. Health experts attribute the rise to an over-production of oil, fat and sugar — the result of government farm subsidies started in the 1970s that made it much cheaper to manufacture products like high fructose corn syrup, a common ingredient in processed foods. “On top of that, investment policies changed in the early 1980s to require corporations to report growth to Wall Street every 90 days,” said Marion Nestle, a nutrition professor at New York University and author of the book “Food Politics.” “This made food companies seek new ways to market to the public. Obesity was collateral damage.” 4) Germany, 66.5 percent When Germany found out that it was the fattest nation in Europe, health experts blamed the usual suspects: beer, fatty foods and lack of physical activity. Like the rest of the world, Germans are suffering from an easy availability of junk food and more sedentary jobs and lifestyles. As part of the government’s campaign to reduce obesity levels by 2020, it has launched programs to serve more fruits and vegetables in public schools. 5) Egypt, 66 percent In the 1960s, Egypt produced enough food to feed its people a steady diet of red meat, poultry, lentils, maize and dairy products. But by the 1980s, the population had outgrown food production, leading to an increase in food imports that created poorer eating habits. Obesity among Egyptian women is particularly high, often attributed to cultural taboos on women exercising or playing sports. 6) Bosnia-Herzegovina, 62.9 percent Once considered a problem only in high-income countries, obesity is dramatically on the rise in low- and middle-income countries like Bosnia-Herzegovina, where smoking, drinking and eating unhealthy foods spiked during the war that ravaged the country from 1992 to 1995. Those living just above the poverty line in developing countries are gaining weight the fastest, partly because of the tendency to fill up on cheap processed foods high in calories and low on nutritional value. 7) New Zealand, 62.7 percent In a study at the University of Otago, researchers found that how much time New Zealand children spend watching television is a better predictor of obesity than what they eat or how much they exercise. The study found that 41 percent of the children who were overweight by age 26 were those who had watched the most TV. Television is not the only reason New Zealanders are gaining weight, but it’s one modern development often cited for growing childhood obesity. 8) Israel, 61.9 percent In the past 30 years, the number of obese Israelis has tripled, evidence the country is truly part of the Western world. Like in most developed countries, flab is most prevalent among Israelis with less education, with Jewish women with college degrees having the lowest levels of obesity and Arab women with basic education having the highest. 9) Croatia, 61.4 percent Croatia, where cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death, is also a victim of the globalization of the food market, which tends to suppress traditional diets as cheaper processed foods from the U.S. and Europe flood store shelves. Unlike other Europeans, Croatian men have higher rates of obesity than Croatian women, and tend to get even fatter as they age. It’s no wonder that a Croatian charity announced in June that it had created the world’s largest pair of jeans — the size of six tennis courts — stitched together from 8,023 donated pairs of jeans. 10) United Kingdom, 61 percent Last month, The Observer begrudgingly reported that the heaviest man in the world was not in the U.S., but a 48-year-old Brit living in low-incoming housing in Ipswich “eating takeaways and playing computer games.” His weight: 980 pounds. British bellies are expanding for the same reasons as everywhere else. A recent survey, however, ranked Brits among the bottom third of European nations in physical exercise, leading Health Secretary Andy Burnham to comment, "We're really in danger of being known as the best in the world for watching sport, but one of the worst for getting out there and doing it for ourselves." http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/commerce/091125/obesity-epidemic-fattest-countries?page=0,0

What the site owners don't want to tell folks (which I had close info at the time the articles appeared) is that the site data was in fact compromised. Most of these Somali “news” sites give access to different reporters to post their “news” and it seems someone with a different agenda either gained access or went around physically undetected. I got feeds that the troublemakers have taken advantage of the apparent lull in admin duties as the main guardian was busy at the time.

Omar Jamal takes post with Somali Mission to UN

Omar Jamal takes post with Somali Mission to UN
Libaax-Sankataabte replied to Libaax-Sankataabte's topic in Politics
^^ Waryaa Abtigiis, it seem the ONLF community is cleverly sacrificing Ina Beddel so as to dump on Omar Jamaal. hahaha. War Abtigaa ninka xanaagsan ee afka ka xumbaynaya ka celi, yaan habaar kugu dhicine. As of the article written by the "angry" author (as you said), the following portion essentially recaps how absurd and inane the author’s charges are. Wax nin weyn isku wareerin karo baadigoobkooda ma aha awoowe. In one of his now infamous media stints, Mr. Jamal summoned the unsuspecting Somali media in early May, and declared that the teenage Somali pirate who was captured after terrorizing the ship Mearsk Alabama for nearly a week is, in his words, “a distant cousin” (a code word frequently used by Jamal to denote clan affiliation), and that the teenager’s family in Puntland had retained him as a “local lawyer.” A local lawyer? Sure, Jamal asserted more than once that he’s a “local lawyer”---whatever that means. Regardless, this madness was too much for Rep. Marty Seifert, a Republican state lawmaker, who introduced a bill banning state money to fund Jamal’s grandeur. In the above cantarabaqash, the author had posted one NPR news article as an evidence that Jamaal called himself a "local lawyer" for pirates. Let us read the very article that the author has posted as an evidence against Jamaal. http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2009/04/22/somali_money/ These sort of insult "articles" reduce otherwise sane individuals into detestable beasts. It is an absolute shame. Omar Jamal is just another brother trying to make bread. Whether he has a flamboyant persona, loves media attention or supported the Yeey goverment is neither here nor there. There is no need to get that personal and write such articles. It sort of makes the author seem less sane. -

lool@map The "Somalia" blurb could also be a mistake since the whole thing is a mess. Disgraceful.
