If Serbia scores, Ghana is out.
-
Ghana advances: * With a win or tie, OR * With a loss and if Australia-Serbia tie, so long as Serbia does not own the tiebreaker over Ghana, OR * With a loss and if Australia wins, so long as Australia does not own the tiebreaker over Ghana.

Well deserved win!!!! Let the Yankees win. At least they have the guts and the passion during the entire 90 minutes of the game. They never give up one second. This is what they do. Algeria is a technically great team, but they lack the organization, discipline and the last third finish needed to go anywhere. Africa's only hope is Ghana. I have a feeling they will fall apart easily. The only two goal Ghana scored so far are from penalty. lool

Diego indeed tried his best. The poor Nigerian defending and their lack of finish let him down. Thanks Maradona. it is not your fault.

NGONGE, France was out in the last game against Mexico IMO. I didn't think they would come back that spectacularly considering all the infighting in the French camp. My hope was that South Africa would be saved from the embarrassment of making history. What a disaster for all my teams. Let us see Ghana.

SA made history today to be the first host nation to not advance to the next stage.

Another African team bites the dust. Brazil on top again.

Great work Newzealand

^^He is a big kid. Childish stuff.

Eto needed to get the monkey off his back. He has been criticized for "doing nothing" for Cameroon. Hopefully they can hang on and get the three points.

Cameroon just scored.

France is in shambles again. Anelka nixed from the French squad. He is sent home by Domenech. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2010/8749698.stm

These African teams need to learn one or two things from the Dutch. What a waste of talent. Dutch focus on points, not plaudits "The country that gave us the delightfully free-flowing concept of Total Football, and reached two FIFA World Cup™ Finals employing it in the 1970s, are towing a line far more practical these days in South Africa. "We're thrilled to have maximum points from two games," Dirk Kuyt, the Netherlands forward, told FIFA.com after their 1-0 win over Japan in Durban on Saturday. That victory took the Oranje to the top of Group H, but was short on the kind of style and elegance historically associated with the 1988 European champions, producers of such showy icons as Johan Cruyff, Ruud Gullit and Marco van Basten. "It would be great to score bags of goals and play flowing football all the time, but if you gave me the choice between points and style, I would take the points every day," continued Kuyt, the Liverpool striker whose work rate has no equal at these finals. Sacrificing panache and "sexy football" – a term Gullit himself famously coined – the Dutch have yet to concede a goal in South Africa and are playing a disciplined brand of football almost incongruous with their trademark orange jerseys. "Patience, not flair, I think this is the main strength of this team," said young forward Eljero Elia, who came off the bench against Japan. After a match that produced only two shots on goal in the first half, and was settled by a single goal from Wesley Sneijder, Elja’s theory certainly seems on the mark.

WORLD CUP 2010: What England have to do to qualify for the last 16 Group qualification is decided by the following tie-breaks: * First - goal difference * Second - goals scored * Third - head-to-head record of the teams involved * Finally - if teams are still level, a lottery is held to decide who goes through. Jumping over hurdles: England are facing an early exit after two draws To qualify as winners: England need to beat Slovenia and hope the USA don't win by a bigger margin against Algeria. If they finish with the same points and same goal difference as the USA they must have scored more goals than the Americans. If they are still tied it will go to a lottery as the head-to-head result was a draw. To qualify as runners -up: A draw with Slovenia will only be good enough for England to qualify in second place if the USA also draw their last game against Algeria and England score three more goals than the Americans i.e. if the USA draw 0-0 England would have to draw 3-3. (If England draw 2-2 it would go to the lottery.) England will be out if: They lose to Slovenia, or they draw and Algeria beat the USA or vice versa. It seems England is struggling. This game reminds me of France vs. Mexico.

Algeria is not playing a bad ball at all. They are quick on the counter-attack.

I like England, but something tells me the Algerian khamriileyaal may do some damage today. We shall see.

Switzerland credits U.S. for its upset of Spain Gelson Fernandes scored the goal and Diego Benaglio produced the saves, but it was the United States that inspired the gameplan for Switzerland's 1-0 shocker over Spain on Wednesday. Swiss Manager Ottmar Hitzfeld offered a tip of the cap to Bob Bradley and his staff. Drawing from strategy implemented by the Americans against the Spanish at the Confederations Cup in South Africa last year, Hitzfeld devised a plan that conceded possession, clogged the middle of the park and counterattacked rapidly "We saw how the Americans played against Spain with a lot of interest," Hitzfeld said. "You know that if you are going to have a chance against [spain] you need to do certain things very well. The USA did not try to do everything. They accepted the fact that Spain has pace and width and simply made sure they kept the center of defense as tight as they could. It is not a perfect system, but it was a very interesting tactic and it worked."

This US team has a lot of heart. What a game.

I am enjoying it. Great game. Serbia is a well disciplined team.

My team France is out 110%. The Hispanics will play for a draw. This coach has emotionally bankrupted a team full of talent. What a embarrassment. I am lost for words to be honest. Now I want to put all my hopes on Ghana, Ivory Coast, but something tells me “Afrikaankaan meel ma gaarayaane ha isku wareerin”. If the Africans fail to make it, I will cheer for anyone who can beat the five teams I truly detest … Germany, Brazil, Spain, Italy and Argentina. We need World Cup miracle, admits Domenech (AFP) – 1 hour ago POLOKWANE, South Africa — Embattled France coach Raymond Domenech admitted on Thursday that his star-studded, crisis-hit team desperately need a World Cup miracle after slumping to a 2-0 defeat to Mexico. France, the 1998 world champions and 2006 runners-up, were left with just a point from their first two Group A matches and are three behind Uruguay and Mexico who meet next Tuesday. France need to beat South Africa in their final game on the same day, and then hope the mathematics of qualification works in their favour. But the controversial Domenech, who steps down and will be replaced by Laurent Blanc after the World Cup, is not holding out too much hope of his team making the second round. "We need a miracle," admitted Domenech. "We have to be strong and at least play for our honour. At least we must show something in the last match. When we are forced to rely on others, there's nothing to say." Veteran Cuauhtemoc Blanco converted a late penalty to clinch Mexico's first victory over France after substitute striker, Manchester United-bound Javier Hernandez, had put the Central Americans ahead in the 64th minute. France, who controversially reached the World Cup finals after Thierry Henry's handball set up the decisive goal in a play-off win over Ireland, struggled to create any meaningful opportunities against a vibrant Mexican team. "I don't have the words, it's a real disappointment for all of the people and for those who believed in us," added Domenech. "If we had the answers then we could have done something about it. We had good intentions and desire. I feel just like all of the fans, all the French people. It's more than just a disappointment." France captain Patrice Evra admitted his team were just not good enough. "We are not a great team," said the Manchester United defender. "It's a catastrophe, that's all we can say. "When you are knocked out of the European championship in the first round and you are also capable of being knocked out in the first round of the World Cup, you just don't want to think about football after that." Mexico striker Hernandez, 22, said victory will make the whole of his country proud. "I am happy for so many reasons. Not just for my goal or for the man of the match award, but also because the victory brings so much joy to Mexico," said Hernandez. "But this win is just a first step. There's a long way to go. We are not thinking yet about the match with Uruguay - we want to make the most of this for the moment." Skipper Rafael Marquez warned Mexico they could not let the win go to their heads. "We have to keep our feet on the ground despite this win," the Barcelona defender said. Coach Javier Aguirre added: "It was very important to beat France - they are after all the vice-world champions. We turned in a very fine performance - but we are not yet mathematically through. Meanwhile, French legend Zinedine Zidane, a member of the title-winning side from 12 years ago, but who was also red-carded in the 2006 final, believes Domenech got his selection wrong. Zidane insisted that Domenech blundered by demoting Yoann Gourcuff to the bench, depriving the side of a creative spark. "The coach made the decision but I don't agree with it," Zidane told Mexican television station Televisa. "I am disappointed because France did not have a single shot on goal and that should be the least to be expected. Tonight the best team won. "France did not play well, but they were against a very good team. Mexico were superior to France especially physically."

It is annoying, but let the locals enjoy and have fun with the tool they invented. It is a symbol of South African football. It is also great for the local economy.
