This proposed five "federal states" breakdown will never make sense to Somaliland. Waa hadii runta aan ka hadlanyno. The chances of seeing Somaliland back to the union is worse than ever. SA7RAWY, saxib, present your case in a civilized manner. There is no need to attack other nomads.

It is all innocent until proven guilty, but this kind of bad publicity doesn't win Kobe more endorsements from corporate America. Specially when it is in the "sexual assualt" category. Hey, Kobe can still make it, but I must say it could also be the beginning of more troubles for him. We will see. DENVER (July 6) - Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant turned himself in to police and posted a $25,000 bond on a felony count of sexual assault, the Eagle County sheriff's office said Sunday. The 24-year-old All-Star guard was released after turning himself in on Friday. The sheriff's office said an arrest warrant was issued after deputies investigated a report made Wednesday claiming sexual misconduct by Bryant. The report said the incident happened on the night of June 30 in a hotel in the Edwards area of Eagle County, near Vail. After a series of interviews and a review of the physical evidence, investigators met with representatives for District Attorney Mark Hurlbert and concluded they had enough evidence for the felony sexual assault count, the sheriff's office said in a statement. ``During the investigation, Bryant was cooperative with investigators and remains cooperative with authorities,'' the sheriff's office said. Judge Russell Granger ordered the case sealed. Attempts to reach Bryant for comment were not immediately successful. ``These allegations are completely out of character of the Kobe Bryant we know,'' Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said in a statement. ``For the seven years he's been with us, he has been one of the finest young men we've known and a wonderful asset to both our team and our community. ``However, since this is a legal matter being handled by the authorities in Colorado, we must refrain from further comment at this time.'' NBA spokesman Tim Frank said the league had no immediate comment. Bryant was the NBA's second-leading scorer last season, averaging a career-best 30 points a game. He scored 40 or more points in nine straight games in February and also had career-high averages of 6.9 rebounds and 5.9 assists while playing in each of the Lakers' 82 games. The Lakers were eliminated from the Western Conference semifinals by the San Antonio Spurs, ending Los Angeles' run of three straight NBA championships. Bryant underwent shoulder surgery on June 12 in New York. The Lakers expect he'll be ready by the start of training camp in October. Bryant married Vanessa Laine in April 2001. Bryant and his parents recently mended a rift that developed when he became engaged to Laine when she was an 18-year-old high school student. Vanessa gave birth to their first child, Natalia Diamante Bryant, in January. 07/06/03 22:48 EDT Copyright 2003 The Associated Press. The galloping Ms Edna and her disparaging of Somalia.

Originally posted by LANDER: Libaax, sahiib what is your personal opinion on the political divide in SS&H? where do you think the people stand concerning Somaliland in each respective region? Lander, saxib, if you want my thoughts on the SS&H issue, you would have to give me a cup of tea first. Now, brother, the issue of SS&H have pretty much been the forefront of the Somalia/Somaliland political debate. No such debate thread has ever retired peacefully without the planned discussion being interrupted by extremely emotional rhetoric coming from both sides of the political spectrum. Saxib, to answer your question on where I think the average SS&H-ite stands on this issue of separation, my general observation over the years(source: stories, family, conversations with people from SS&H, news content) has been that the overwhelming majority (the key word here is "overwhelming") of the people from Sool, Sanaag_Bari, and Hawd don't see secession from Somalia as a viable option for them. In other words, they prefer to stay part of Somalia. I should also note that SS&H-ite’s political sentiment slightly shifts in favor of one camp or the other in some parts of Sool and Sanaag depending on who is being more clever at the campaign front, but usually the heavier burden is on the pro-secessionist camp because of the tribal politics hiding beneath the status quo. Now, if you demand scientific data (i.e.: accurate polling, referendum results, etc) I would be in a big trouble mate simply because I don't have any scientific data to back up my claims. But to galvanize the discussion, I will let others make an argument against my observations in that case the onus will be on them to provide an accurate data to prove otherwise. salaama -
Gediid, saxib, the region's nascent instability is a direct result of Riyaale's mishaps. On this dispute, there seems to exist little empathy and a lot of enmity. For Riyaale, it is a matter of upholding his strict anti-union stance and using force if necessary. For Jamac Yare's supporters it is a humiliation for their clan to see one of their elders kicked out of Hargeisa for his political views. If violance breaks out, many Somalilanders would wonder whether the deportation was worth it afterall. Jamac Maxamed Qaalib

Let us start "BUUG CELIS" and start helping institutions like UEA surmount the apparent disintegration of the Somali education system. It is a step in the right direction. I know Illmatic and the folks at Mankato State University are doing some book collections, but who else? -

This doesn't bother me at all because I know I am fair at the end of the day. I greatly respect your opinion though. HornAfrique, About the "eskimos" comment, I didn't think it was much different from calling somebody a "sujui". I didn't think it carried any negative qabiil connotation. Personally, I have never heard it before and I thought it was something he just made up. Lynx's explanation was that the Somalis(all tribes) from Ogaden region were "isolated". I was focusing more on his "namecalling" against you rather than the general comment he made. Brother, you have to understand that it is really hard to judge comments like this without shutting nomads up completely. Where do we draw the line? What constitutes a qabiil attack and what doesn't? This shows you how hard it is to be a moderator. -

Samurai, saxib, this is sad. Riyaale should not have been worried by a Somalilander having a pro-unity stance in a democratic society. Democracy doesn't operate like that. It is also an embarrassment for the parties involved because violence based on one man's personal opinion should have been a thing in the past in Somaliland which claims to be the "beacon of democracy" in the horn. People like Hadraawi and Jaamac Ghalib should be allowed to have their political opinions. Oh well, I guess Riyaale's old habit are proving hard to suppress.

American companies aren't doing well at the world's most prestigeous gathering for defense and airspace industries. Boeing was left reeling from another blow yesterday at the Paris airshow after Airbus swept up a $5.1bn (£3.3bn) deal from Qatar Airways for 18 new planes. On Monday, Airbus beat the US aeroplane manufacturer to a $12.5bn contract from Emirates for 41 aircraft, but only last week Qatar was saying Boeing was still in the running for this latest order ====================================== Missing In Action At The Paris Air Show Thanks To Pentagon Pique Over France's Iraq War Opposition, The U.S. Contingent To The Key Dealmaking Confab Is Way Down This Year The only U.S. military airplane flying at the Paris Air Show this year was an historical one --- the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. This legendary flying machine soared over thousands of public spectators at Le Bourget airfield. Europeans, Asians, and others were visibly impressed by one of America's most enduring technological feats. The B-17 helped liberate Europe from the clutches of fascism and changed the course of history. Too bad the spectators --- and, more important, leaders and buyers from many countries --- couldn't see a more updated version of America's air prowess. But such is the tense state of affairs between the governments of the U.S. and France these days. The chilling effect here at the June 15-22 Paris Air Show is as palpable as the roar of jet engines during the daily flying displays. In U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's determination to punish France for opposing the Iraq War, no F-15, F-16, or F-18 fighter jets have left the ground at Le Bourget. All of these American-made jets flexed their technological might above Baghdad, and many friendly governments around the world have been keenly interested in seeing them strut their stuff aloft and receiving the latest information on their battle-tested performance from the top U.S. brass. "SOME TENSION." Potential buyers will have to wait. As part of Rumsfeld's directive, no U.S. military official above the rank of colonel can attend the show. So, the American presence has dwindled. About 181 U.S. companies are exhibiting this year, compared to 350 at the 2001 Paris Air Show, which is held every other year. Some of America's biggest defense contractors, such as General Dynamics (GD), stayed home. Others, such as Boeing (BA), Northrop Grumman (NOC), and Lockheed Martin (LMT), have cut the number of their people here by 30%, according to U.S. aerospace officials. "Certainly, there is some tension," concedes Northrop Chairman Ken Kresa. Most American executives are blaming the sluggish economy and the lack of key senior U.S. military leaders for their reduced presence at this year's show. No one would publicly risk criticizing the Pentagon's mandate, but it has clearly put a sour note on one of the few events that attracts the world's aerospace elite for a week of briefings, dealmaking, and socializing. At the 2001 show, Lockheed Martin execs participated in 800 meetings, but only four were with French military representatives. "You don't go to Paris to see the French, because the French don't buy from us," says Joel Johnson, a senior vice-president of the Aerospace Industries Assn. "You go because Paris is the world's largest networking event for aerospace and defense companies." WHO GETS HURT? Indeed, the Pentagon's petulant behavior toward the French could end up hurting the American aerospace industry. The fact that it can't show off its aircraft in flight or have a senior U.S. general brief the general of an interested Eastern European or Asian country on the recent performance of American jets or battle systems in the Persian Gulf, leaves potential customers all to the French, British, and Russian defense companies. That's hardly helpful to U.S. aerospace industry, one of the few sectors that runs a trade surplus, about $28 billion in 2002. "It seems to me not going to the Paris Air Show gives good reason to boycott Mcdonald's or Coke," says Johnson of the AIA. "You certainly hurt French restaurants, taxi drivers, and some hotels. But you aren't hurting the government or French industry." Many executives of European and American defense companies with business in the U.S. publicly downplay the tensions. Some insist that their plans remain unaffected by the ongoing transatlantic differences. They say defense contracts are negotiated over the course of months or years, and can weather periodic political tempests. "POLITICAL NOISE." Northrop's Kresa says that while the lack of senior U.S. military officials certainly put a damper on one of the key reasons for U.S. defense companies to attend the show, the other reasons, such as meeting with the European companies and suppliers, continued as usual. "We see no major change in any of the programs going on," Kresa says. "I don't think it's necessarily hurt." Rainer Hertrich, co-CEO of Continental aerospace consortium European Aeronautic Defence & Space (EADS), which makes Airbus commercial airplanes and is one of Europe's largest defense contractors, says he sees no indication that any contracts or partnerships his company has with the U.S. Coast Guard, Northrop, or Boeing are in jeopardy. "There is a lot of political noise at the moment, but I do not see any change in behavior or attitude," Hertrich says. "There is absolutely no indication there is any long-term impact in our transatlantic relations." But just to be safe, Hertrich and EADS's other CEO, Frenchman Phillipe Camus, hosted a small dinner for some U.S. and British journalists that emphasized centuries of good ties between the Old and New Worlds. The evening began at a spot near the Brasserie Le Vigny (where the French built the Statue of Liberty), and a French historian talked about the beauty of transatlantic ties in the old days. The location was rich in other symbolism. It was a comfortable chateau on the Right Bank that had survived several Franco-Prussian wars, the two World Wars, and had hosted several world leaders, including President George H.W. Bush. The implicit message: Bush Senior understood the importance of having good international relations. Let's hope his son does, too. If anything, Hertrich and Camus went to great lengths to underscore that the history of European-U.S. relations may not always be smooth, but each side has too much at stake to see the ties unravel. And despite all of the political noise, as Hertrich likes to say, that's the clear lesson at Le Bourget in 2003. The Boston Globe Guardian.co.uk.
