  3. Originally posted by Entrepreneur: the number tested is not evem 300, 200, 150 but 121 people! Entre, that is more than 50% Subhanallah. Now, this is the hard question: Do the Somali people have the right to know the identity of those who are infected? Those who might bring harm to others knowingly or unknowingly? It is my belief that it is their fundamental human right to have some privacy. But I don't know where we draw the line when thousands might be at risk.
  4. Entre, 62 is a big number. Imagine their wifes and their Somali "minyarooyin". Subhanallah. This is a disgrace. If this culture of "I don't have it", "don't test me" continues, Somalia will have the highest HIV/AIDS rate in the continent soon.
  5. Maybe we can attack Soccatra and capture it from the Yemenis and make our capital there. It will be hard for the warlords to attack an island they don't know anything about.
  6. In Minneapolis most people are fasting today which is Sunday. Happy Ramadan to all the nomads here.
  7. It is very important that we refrain from personal attacks based on the same insecurities we accuse of others having. If a fellow nomad uses "sophisticated wording" on his/her writing, it should not be a concern for those who like simplicity because one can always choose not to read the post at all. If it is not at your level, please skip the post and read those that you feel comfortable with. It is just a matter of choice and respect. I know Sophist and Saylici personally and I honestly think they are not pretending at all. You just gotta accept it. It is easier for some folks to write with such complexity without wasting hours on the dictionary. It is Allah's gift. Happy Ramadan to you all.
  8. Emotional Megawati farewells Mahathir By Mark Baker (Nusa Dua, Bali) -- Indonesia's President, Megawati Soekarnoputri, broke down in tears yesterday as she farewelled the Malaysian Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad, from the regional stage. Ms Megawati paused repeatedly to regain her composure as she delivered a speech to mark Dr Mahathir's last appearance at the annual leaders' summit of the Association of South-East Asian Nations. Referring to Dr Mahathir as "Bapak", or father - the honorific once bestowed on the former Indonesian president Soeharto - Ms Megawati praised him as one of the region's greatest leaders. Dr Mahathir, 77, is due to retire at the end of this month after leading Malaysia for 22 years. "This is the very last summit that is graced by the presence of a dear colleague, who is also a steadfast friend and a respected colleague to all," Ms Megawati said. "The mark of his personal statesmanship has been imprinted so deep in our consciousness that in a larger sense, he will always be with us. "The reach of his mind is so far and wide that on every issue laid before us, we always try to recall what Dr Mahathir said about it." In a remark that drew a frisson of laughter from diplomats and journalists in the audience, she went on: "He always had strong and informed views, and never hesitated to say the unpleasant." The emotional speech appeared to embarrass a number of other regional leaders, who sat in silence beside Ms Megawati on the podium and clapped politely at the finish. Her effusive tribute also surprised many observers, given the long-standing rivalry between Malaysia and Indonesia during the regime of her father, General Soekarno. Ms Megawati said there was "no way of counting" the things that Dr Mahathir had done for ASEAN, and he had worked hardest to articulate the vision of the 10-nation grouping. After being presented with a gilt-framed portrait of his colleagues, Dr Mahathir said: "I am grateful to all of you for your support, assistance and above all, friendship."
  9. I disagree with many of you nomads here. I think the females look pure Somalis.
  10. Sammurai, that is the best news from Somalia for some time. Basic educational institutions advancing to a higher level. Good post Sammurai.
  11. It is not uncommon for Somalis to mention themselves along with the Jews, the Chinese and the Indians, when they talk about "intelligence". In general, intelligence is a very general mental capability that, among other things, involves the ability to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend complex ideas, learn quickly and learn from experience. It is not merely book learning, a narrow academic skill, or test-taking smarts. Rather, it reflects a broader and deeper capability for comprehending our surroundings--"catching on," "making sense" of things, or "figuring out" what to do. Here are some scores for different groups. // Somalis | 68 Congolese | 73 Chinese | 105 Malaysians | 92 Germans | 102 Arabs | 82 Ibo tribe (Nigeria) | 77 Jews | 108 Japanese | 107 // Note: anything below an IQ of 70 is considered "retardation". all comments are appreciated. No histrionics please.
  12. Nomads, this is an email I got today. I don't know if it is appropriate for me to post it here, but I just had to show you how Islam is under attack from left right and center. HINDUS BURNING THE HOLY QURAN PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO AS MANY MUSLIMS AS YOU CAN IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES SO THAT IT MAY REACHES THE MEDIA WHICH WILL FOR SURE- COVER IT AS WELL AS IT DESERVES, AND THE MUSLIMS ALLOVER THE WORLD MAY KNOW & DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. THIS IS AN EXCLUSIVE PICTURE AND IT'S THE ONLY PROOF OF THE UNFORGIVABLE SIN DONE BY THE HINDUS
  13. It is funny how the chinese were the first to invent rockets, and were the first nation to attempt to put a taikonaut on space. What do you all think about the recent Chinese successes? Is it good for the world? China started the space race (CNN) -- In a sense, the Chinese began the space race. The Chinese invented rockets in the 13th century, and used the so called "fire arrows" to fend off invading Mongols. According to Chinese legend, the first person to attempt a trip into space was a 16th century man named Wan Hoo. Wan, desiring to reach the moon, supposedly strapped 47 rockets to a wicker chair and had 47 assistants light the fuses. Not a trace of him was found. http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/space/10/14/space.race/
  14. I want France to win. I have been a big fan of French football since worldcup 98. Shujui, are you kidding me? Azzuris aren't gonna reach anywhere. They need to settle some score with Wales first
  15. Originally posted by **Sue**: I'm going change the way I see other Somalis and embrace my culture and people, instead of pushing them away like i've done so in the past. That is a very thoughtful move Sue. In its very essence, embracing your culture is both a duty and a pleasure. BTW, is the British media talking alot about this case? I mean the BBC baby chanels.
  16. As a Somali person, this is how I look at Affirmative action. Case study: two females, each is age 24, one is Somali, the other is a white girl. They are both Sociology graduates and their academic score is the same. They are both applying for an office position at a small Software company. Company grading policy: 10 marks for academic credentials 10 marks for previous job experience, 9 marks for interview performance. 1 mark for "affirmative action". You need to get at least 20/30 in order to work for this company. Somali girl's Performance: - 10/10 for education - 9/10 for previous job experience - 4/9 for the interview because she didn't click with the interviewer. The interviewer was a white lady. The Somali girl was wearing the hijab. The interviewer asked her something about baseball and the Somali girl couldn't answer. She also had a Somali accent but spoke fluently. - 1/1 for just being black. Total Score: 24/30 The White girl's performance: - 10/10 for education - 5/10 for previous job experience because. - 8/9 for the interview. The lady really liked her. - 0/1 for the "affirmative action" score. Total score: 23/30 Final Result: the Somali girl gets the job. This is an approximate formula used by some companies.

  18. This is what American Jewish intellectuals are saying about the Columbia professor. They despised his name. Doing his part for the jihad: Said throwing a stone at Israeli soldiers (Jewish World Review) -- As far as we know, Saddam Hussein is on the loose in Iraq, Osama Bin Laden is hiding somewhere in the tribal lands of Pakistan and Sheik Ahmed Yassin is still dodging Israeli bombs in Gaza. But the jihad just lost a hero right here in New York City. Edward Said, Columbia University's famous warrior-scholar, is dead, felled at age 67 by leukemia. Columbia mourns. "This death is an irreplaceable loss to the realm of ideas," said President Lee Bollinger. Bollinger's grief is shared by many. CounterPunch, a journal of the radical left, has run a series of fervid tributes to Said's life and work. The Saudi government-controlled Arab News has extolled him in almost glowing terms. Not since the Soviet-Nazi nonaggression pact of 1939 has there been such ideological harmony. Said not only united fascists and Communists, he also served as an ecumenical bridge. He was the rare Episcopalian admired by Hamas, whose goal of eradicating Israel he shared; Hezbollah - which was his host in southern Lebanon on his famous rock-throwing expedition - and other pillars of Islamic orthodoxy. This is not as incongruous as it might seem. Said was a dapper fellow, known in the salons of New York for his fine piano playing and nuanced appreciation of Jane Austen's novels. But beneath the foppish exterior beat the heart of a martyr. His most famous book, "Orientalism," published in 1979, did more for the jihad than a battalion of Osamas. Like all great polemics, "Orientalism" rests on a simple thesis: Westerners are inherently unable to fairly judge, or even grasp, the Arab world. In fact, any attempt to do so amounts to an act of intellectual imperialism. This idea was seized upon by American students of the Middle East as a liberating insight. If they couldn't understand the Arab world - if, indeed, studying the subject was tantamount to colonialist aggression - then they could skip class and go out for hummus. All they needed to become qualified Arabists was a humble attitude and a mastery of the orthodoxies propounded by Said and other experts. "Orientalism" made Said a hero not only in the mosques of Gaza, but in the halls of ivy. Not since CliffsNotes has a work so simplified scholarship. Since 1979, a generation of Saidists - professors, diplomats and foreign correspondents - has dominated polite discourse on the Middle East. Their animating principle is politically correct simplicity itself: see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil about the Arab world. Of course, Said allowed himself to criticize Arab regimes - usually on the grounds that they weren't sufficiently revolutionary. But he carefully remained within the bounds of acceptable Arab opinion. He was until his death a valued contributor to Al Ahram, the house organ of the Egyptian government. Said wasn't responsible for the depredations of Hosni Mubarak's regime or any other Arab tyranny. He didn't blow up Marines in Lebanon in 1983, ignite the Palestinian intifadeh or send Wahhabi missionaries to preach violence against infidels. He certainly didn't fly a plane into the World Trade Center. What he did do was jam America's intellectual radar. He wasn't the architect of 9/11, but he was the father of the 9/12 inability to comprehend it. Ah, well, Said is in paradise now. As an Episcopalian, he's ineligible for the customary 72 virgins, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's honored with a couple of female doctoral candidates. No one deserves it more. Meanwhile, the legacy lives. Like George Steinbrenner, Bollinger has recruited a new superstar for Columbia's "realm of ideas." Rashid Khalidy is now the enforcer of Arab authenticity in Morningside Heights, and he's got the title to prove it: Edward Said professor of Middle Eastern studies. http://www.jewishworldreview.com

  22. Sister, we would love you to stay and take an active role in building the Islamic section. Remember Jihad starts here. Inform and educate others who don't know.
  23. Dangerous stuff Sammurai. So why are the foriegners still robbing the Somali coast? Blow the thiefs up I say.
  24. Good stuff Shujui. The following piece could make happy people unhappy. Is happiness a disorder? Summarised from an article by James Le Fanu, entitled 'Will sunshine cheer us up?', in The Times. A Liverpool University psychologist Dr. Richard Bentall maintains that happiness is so unusual that it should properly be conidered pathological. He adduces evidence that the state of happiness is grounded in irrational thinking, is caused by disturbances of the central nervous system, and can be induced by epileptic fits. "Happiness", he argues, "meeets all reasonable criteria for a psychiatric disorder. It is statistically abnormal, it reflects abnormal functioning and is associated with a lack of contact with reality." http://www.globalideasbank.org/BOV/BV-366.HTML
