Cisco Sues Apple Over Use of iPhone Name By JORDAN ROBERTSON Wednesday, January 10, 2007 SAN FRANCISCO - Cisco Systems sued Apple Inc. in federal court Wednesday, saying the computer maker's new iPhone violates its trademark. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, came just a day after Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the Apple iPhone in dramatic fashion at a trade show in San Francisco. But even while Jobs was trumpeting the product during his keynote address to Apple faithful, the matter of the product's naming had not been resolved behind the scenes between two of the biggest names in Silicon Valley. San Jose-based Cisco, the world's largest network-equipment maker, has owned the trademark on the name "iPhone" since 2000, when it acquired InfoGear Technology Corp., which originally registered the name. And three weeks ago, Cisco's Linksys division put the trademark to use, releasing an Internet phone called "iPhone" that uses the increasingly popular Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP. But on Tuesday, Jobs unveiled Apple's own iPhone, a "game-changing" touch-screen-controlled cell phone device that plays music, surfs the Web and delivers voicemail and e-mail. Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris said she could not immediately comment on the lawsuit. Cisco said Tuesday it had been negotiating for several years with Apple over a licensing agreement, but that Apple lawyers had not signed and returned the final contract. "Cisco entered into negotiations with Apple in good faith after Apple repeatedly asked permission to use Cisco's iPhone name," said Mark Chandler, Cisco senior vice president and general counsel, in a statement. "There is no doubt that Apple's new phone is very exciting, but they should not be using our trademark without our permission." Cisco is seeking injunctive relief to prevent Apple from copying Cisco's iPhone trademark. "Today's iPhone is not tomorrow's iPhone. The potential for convergence of the home phone, cell phone, work phone and PC is limitless, which is why it is so important for us to protect our brand," Chandler added. US Air Force Bombs Southern Somalia Using AC-130 Gunships
Libaax-Sankataabte replied to Castro's topic in Politics
I woudn't be taken aback if this is part of a coordinated exertion to take the pressure off US military in Iraq and create by design another façade front for "al-qaeda" in some far away land. Somalia fits right in the "unfriendly" yet “feeble" category for US war games. -

"Sidoo kale Xuseen Cirfo oo halkaas ka hadlay ayaa sheegay in uu ka codsanayo dadka deegaanka inay cafiyaan sidoo kalena isaga uu cafiyay" What have the locals done to cirfo for him to say "idinkana waan idin cafiyey"? -
^^ Alle-Ubaahnoow, one can go on and on, and bring forth a laundry list of criticism, mishaps and could-have-beens today, but the fundamental fact remains, and I hope you agree with me on this, that the ICU experiment is a stepping stone for brighter days to come even if the typical pragmatist perceived their recent rush to war as comic miscalculation at best.

Garaad Baashow, you’ve become quite the pragmatist, didn’t ya? Originally posted by NGONGE: [Yeey] stands as a living representation (in the eyes of everyone else) of all that is bad about his clan (rightly or wrongly of course). As long as he is president, he will have opposition from almost all sides. NGONGE, I tend to agree with you on that old man. Yeey is a very polarizing figure and an distant one at that. However, it is imperative for the levelheaded folks not to loose track of how this great calamity came falling on us. In reality, the “Somali problem” transcends Yeey, the ICU or the recent Ethiopian invasion. To appreciate the subject matter, one needs to merely borrow garaad Baashi’s term "negative tribalism" and decode it splendidly. In simple “fadhi-ku-dirir” terms, today it is Cabdiqasim’s sub-sub clan and few other allied clans who feel “politically alienated” the most for they represented the core power base of the now disbanded ICU. Tomorrow it will be Yeey and Gheedi’s sub clans who will demonstrate similar sentiments when the “Wind of Victory” changes course as is quite often in Somali politics. It is a vicious cycle. What is the solution? I am a strong advocate of Shariah rule which in all probability is the best line of attack to "confront" this inherent problem. Having said that, Shariah in the most genuine form, can only take roots as the end result of a long indoctrination process (I still get jitters when I see pictures of thousands of civilians welcoming warlord Maxamed Dheere back to Jowhar). It will require time and a great level of effort to completely transform the present Somali psyche. The “who, how and when” is all open for a debate.

Shariif is an honourable man with great integrity. He was put on a very difficult situation many times and InshaAllah he will pass this latest test with flying colors. May Allah bless him. I know he is busy planning so I won't talk about him as a "gone" fella. -
"it was the rebels that released Yeey in 1991. Thus the relationship." Duke, saxib even if the rebels (Tigre) released him, are you informing us Yeey doesn't quite comprehend today Ethiopia's long-held aspirations towards the land of the warring nomads??

lol Suudi seems so keen to get back to his old xaafad. I can just foresee the first action item on Suudi’s mind. *Give brother Qanyare a call, hammer out how the two old hand demagogues can craft a new "subversive" strategy to "unravel" the TFG permanently.* The ultimate price? Chase "big-shoed" Yeey barefooted all the way to Balibusle. -

SanDisk Launches 32 Gigabyte Solid State Drive SanDisk Corporation is bringing to the market a 32 gigabyte (GB), 1.8-inch solid state drive (SSD) as a replacement for the standard mechanical hard disk drive. The new drive is initially aimed at enterprise users as the first step toward mass consumer adoption, according to the company. With the declining cost of NAND flash memory SanDisk says the SSD is a viable and economically attractive alternative to existing technologies in a wider variety of applications, including mobile PCs aimed at enterprise and consumer users. It is projected that inclusion of the SanDisk 32GB SSD in a notebook PC could increase the end-user price by around $600 USD in the first half of 2007. Using NAND flash and SanDisk’s TrueFFS flash management technology, the SanDisk SSD delivers two million hours mean time between failures (MTBF). With no moving parts, it does not need to spin into action or seek files in the way that conventional hard disk drives do. These characteristics make it possible for this class of devices to deliver higher performance when compared with hard disk drives. The SanDisk SSD achieves a sustained read rate of 62 megabytes (MB) per second and a random read rate of 7,000 inputs/outputs per second (IOPS) for a 512-byte transfer. This is more than 100 times faster than most hard disk drives, according to the company. People could expect a laptop PC equipped with SanDisk SSD could boot Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise in as little as 35 seconds. It also can achieve an average file access rate of 0.12 milliseconds, compared with 55 seconds and 19 milliseconds, respectively, for a laptop PC with a hard disk drive. Another advantage of SanDisk SSD is its extremely low power consumption rate compared to the hard disk drive: 0.4 watt during active operation versus 1.0 watt . This is particularly important to extend the battery life for the benefit of enterprise mobile users. The 1.8-inch 32GB solid state drive is now available for original equipment manufacturers. http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=6938

I just dont believe this!! Somali/Ethio to Unite!
Libaax-Sankataabte replied to rudy-Diiriye's topic in Politics
It appears this is well-orchestrated plan to shift the debate away from the current Ethiopian troops inside Somalia, and into a more riling issue such as “unity with Ethiopia” so as to “lessen” the twinge of the current state of affairs. I wonder if witty Juriile is working behind the scenes here. What a game!!! -
Somalis Drop Off Welfare Faster Than Everyone
Libaax-Sankataabte replied to Faarax-Brawn's topic in General
^^Lander, the boom is pretty well fueled by the skyrocketing oil prices. If oil prices plummet, Big Oil will almost certainly suspend current processing load or discover other means of cutting cost (cheap labor from China, Mexico). For now the high oil prices are feeding the insanity.
