  1. This is quite interesting. Xaglatoosiye is known to be hardheaded therefore I would not be surprised.
  2. Abdi Elmi is the only court-certified Somali interpreter in the country. He lives here in Minnesota, home to the largest Somali population in the United States, and he—unsurprisingly—keeps a full caseload. KFAI producer Britta Greene brings us this story about Abdi Elmi and the challenges of interpreting at the highest levels. Audio: http://www.prx.org/pieces/111746#description
  3. Alpha, Awoowe, the great Bendar Kassim is not on my list this summer.
  4. Carafaat, welcome back. Are you in Hargeisa Awoowe. Sow adigii lahaa Muqdishaan aadayaa? Did you ever make it?
  5. Ma waxaad leedahay this is a routine protocol. You may be right, but Xaaji, "saansaanta colaadda" is suffocating the airwaves beryahaan Awoowe. Bal waynu arki doonnaa.
  6. Welcome to Somalia Online Warsame. I moved your topic from the General section to Politics. Most of the discussion items you listed are active discussion topics on this Politics Forum. Browse the topics and participate by replying to existing topics if you wish. Let me know if you need help.
  7. Xaaji, it is interesting Karaash is travelling with the President on this trip. I believe the trip is mainly security related. Whether that "security" discussion includes the issue of Lasanod, I don't know. We shall see Awoowe.
  8. My issue with President Hassan isn’t merely that he seems inept. It is that everyone else around him is corrupt, and his entire team in office seems to lack moral filter. Corruption is not something new to Somali politics and we have seen plenty of it in the past, but what is incredible about this account is how openly the perpetrators prey on their valuable targets, slobbering over anything in their way without shame. It is surreal.
  9. She is very active on twitter. This is her twitter page. https://twitter.com/Anisa_Hajimumin
  10. She is a bright young woman. Abdiweli named her Minister of Women and Family Affairs In this particular interview, she is part of a panel interviewed by Harare about the change in Puntland. I believe she gets into the issues at the 29 minute mark on the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06crXiKRnww#t=2081
  11. The Senior Minister of State, Department for Communities and Local Government & Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Warsi): The British Government considers that it is for Somalia and Somaliland themselves to determine their future relationship and for neighboring countries in the region to take the lead in recognizing any new arrangements. That was the position of the IC since Somaliland declared independence.
  12. I was surprised by Chicago. “Pleasant” is defined as temperatures between 55 and 75 degrees with no significant precipitation or snow depth. Additionally, the minimum temperature must be above 45 degrees and the maximum temperature must be below 85 degrees. Six months out of the year, the weather in Los Angeles is perfect. On average, it has 35 days of measurable precipitation annually. San Diego has pleasant weather 50% of the year. The last time it snowed there was1967. San Francisco might have the coldest summer of any U.S. city, but its weather is pleasant 35% of the year. It’s cloudy more than 200 days a year in Seattle, but there are still more pleasant days than most cities. Chicago has pleasant days 20% of the year and its winters have seen anywhere from9.8 inches to 89.7 inches of snow in the last century. The average annual temperature in New York City is 55 degrees and days are pleasant 18% of the year. The average high in Houston reaches 93 degrees in August and it’s pleasant 18% of the year. Atlanta can be warm and humid, and it also snows occasionally, but it’s pleasant nearly 17% of the time. When it’s not pleasant in Phoenix for 16% of the year, it’s hot, but at least it’s a dry heat in a city with an average of 334 days of sunshine annually. The average temperature in Las Vegas last year was 69 degrees where the days are pleasant just under 16% of the time. There’s no true “dry season” in Boston with more than three inches of rain falling monthly and pleasant temperatures 15% of the year. There were 78.7 inches of snow the winter of 2009-2010, a record for Philadelphia, where weather is pleasant 15% of the time. The hottest recorded temperature in San Antonio, where it’s pleasant 15% of the year, was 111 degrees in 2000. It’s pleasant 15% of the year in Jacksonville where there’s mild winters and warm summers, and the occasional overnight freezes 10 to 15 times a year. It’s pleasant in Indianapolis 14% of the year and the annual average temperature in 2013 was 52.4 degrees. The temperature in Washington, D.C., got as high as 88 degrees in July and 31 degrees in February last year, and it’s pleasant 13% of the year. The weather is pleasant in Salt Lake City for more than 10% of the year and it received 69.9 inches of snow in 2013. Denver has about 300 days of sunshine a year, but it’s defined as pleasant only 10% of the time. Poor McAllister, Mont. It has pleasant days less than 4% of the year. Source: buzzfeed.com
  13. It is common in American politics to see supporters of candidates getting passionate about the electoral process. American politics is rife with stories of shoving, shouting and animated exchanges during caucus time. Mohamud Noor is a good candidate who recognizes that the Somali vote is never monolithic. He himself supported and voted for Robert Lilligren when Abdi Warsame was embarking on that historic run for city councillor. He doesn’t mind the heated debates his supporters are having with the Phyllis Kahn camp. We shall see who wins that Senate seat in November. The Somalis in Minnesota have become a force to reckon with.
  14. SOMALIA BIOMETRIC ID CARDS from AU/UN IST News on Vimeo. The new ID cards are a prerequisite for the new biometric passports. Source: AU/UN http://www.somaliaonline.com/mogadishu-goes-biometric-citizens-line-up-to-get-their-i-d-cards/
  15. That is quite disturbing. I shall ring Minneapolis and find out the fine details.
  16. Beer-Gaal, you make great points Awoowe, but in principle I disagree with the categorization of "need". I think it is in the interest of both parties to come to middle ground on contentious issues not the least of which is the implementation of federalism.
  17. You have to wonder! What is Alshabab's stand on this project? Did they speak out against it? I do remember a while back when Alshabab blew up a solar street light donated by Norway. Is this hospital protected and away from common projectile reach?
