Laakiin all that you hve mentioned is the culture clash problem we are having here and mind you, now a days is not only the fathers who are lacking in our community, but also the mothers are or some mothers have accepted this role of the father being aways from his house and out some place to make earnings. A family house is build by two people and not one and if the mother choosed her kids over the money, then she is at foult too.. Chocolate the other thing I was asking is that, how long are we going to ignore the fact that we are here to live and stay and for that matter we need to respect and understand this system and rais our kids the right way. Al Zeylici thanks for the comments you mentioned all the missing advocacies that we need to do for our people. We are busy chassing money and cheatting the system by getting the mothers to lie and say that their husband's left them so that they could get extra money while her husband sends her more money. Yes some of us were raised this way but do you guys think is wise to continue the chain? why should I be that way when I could go to University or get a great job? why should I rais my children that way when I could give them everything in a xalaal way... Bob good to see you back homie..I like the points you made. I agree.. The life we had in Somalia was a life with no worries and with lots of hope. It was a life that people never thought it would change. Is because of that we are now still in shock and don’t know how to adjust into a new ways of life with out loosing what we have (culture & religion). Like you have mentioned Bob, our community is lacking the fatherhood and the right upraising, is lacking the right mentors and leaders. We need a new voice of Somalis who could take leadership roles in every angle. We need Somalis who fully understand the missing advocacies in our communities. Every community before us had this entire struggle and they have fought through it. But they have only done it after they understood their faults and their reasons for being here. There is nothing wrong with loving your country and I’m not saying we shouldn’t. In this world no matter where we are, we will always be somalian and will always be looked at as somalian even if our birth place is a country other than Somalia. Living the life that is best for you and your people should be the goal for us right now. Living in a foreign country and doing the wrong things as if is a pit stop, is wrong. The life we had in Somalia was wonderful and it was wonderful because we made it wonderful. It had nothing to do with the land. Being a good father or a mother has nothing to do with what country we are in, have a good job or a career has nothing to do with Somalia, help others and building your self a good future has nothing to do with Somalia. If we look at the Canadian History and the way things are now, everyone came to canada whoch means every just like us had a ruff start and everyone made Canada their home. Pakistani, Hindis, Jews, Chines, Lebanese ext all came to Canada way before and today they own this country and all of them are looked at as Canadian. Even the French and Irish are not strong as the Siigs of India and the chines who have been here since the 18's. I worked and still work with many of these people and I learned so much about them. I have understood the somali struggle will always exist unless we accept the fact and the conditions we have at the moment. We all love somalia and iinsha allah one day I'll be back in somalia for bussines reason but I will not live their. How Do we see our selves as Somalis now that we have left our mother country? well most of us I hope. Since we call our selves Somali Canadians, Somali Americans, UK Somalians ect; do you guys think that we should live as the citizens of the new nationalities we have picked up or still live as Somalis in a new country.. When I say live as, I’m talking about keeping the culture the deen and holding to our nationalities 100% or do we become accustomed to this new culture and new ways of life? You see the point and the reason why I have started this topic is to see how much we agree since most of the SOL people here are young minds. Personally I believe that this is some real shiiiidh problem that us Somalis have no matter where we are living in. We have the problem of not understanding the systems and the cultures of the countries we live in. we fail to understand that in order to move forward and to have a good future or in this case to be some body or to compete in this new nation you became, you have to adapt find your feets! When I say to adapt I don’t mean to throw away your culture and religion, what I mean is that we need to use the advantages that we have and the better lives we getting. We always look for the easy way out or in as if we are still qaxootis and we always carry on our bad life style and culture with us and abuse the systems. Here in Canada there is a big single mother population some don’t mind like MMA but to be honest most of them are not single mothers but their husbands are some other place making money. The youth are growing up with a single parents and looking life the easy ways and not think as Somali Canadian and wanting to compete and get them selves the life they dream of. The fathers are home chewing Jaad and still talking about Alshabaab iyo Tuugada kale as if they still living Somalia. Islaantii is on the phone talking about Hagbad and some cheap stuff at some store… We need to drop the luggage’s and understand that we are not going back to Somalia and that we will live us the new Nationalities we have picked up. We need to create a strong future for our selves and our kids so that their lives become much better than ours with out short cuts and struggle. We need to accept our new homes and share our cultures and religions with the new nation and be a good citizen loyal to the adopted mother countries. I’m tired of seeing Somalis talking and acting like as if they are still in Somalia! Somalis using qabiil on each other and chewing jaad daily, Somalis always looking for short cuts and not taking the high road for education and struggle that would one day mean something.
