  1. a big smile on my face, with my hand writing so first, amazing ideas coming out from these books postings, thank you for someone who mentioned joseph conrad's victory, they should also read heart of darkness, and the critic from chinua achebe, easily found online, an eye opener, for something else within the postcolonial literature. now then since we are talking about books, there are very amazing authors from africa, and that is mostly what i have, 'God's Bits of Wood', easily readable, the voices of the people, based in africa, senegal, the usage of islam, fascinating work, it is a must read, especially for those english readers, and for those who are always enlightened by thoughts of AFRICA and why not only somali, but as a continent suffers so, well Ousmane Sembene is someone u might want to give your attention too, cause he likes to contemplate on very interesting issues, when it deals with the westerners verses africans. next, chinua achebe, ouch, he is a writer indeed, but i must say, reading 'Arrow of God', did hurt my head. haha issues on south africa, u might want to pick up Peter Abrahams writing, he also wrote books on carribean societies too, the southafrican one i read, was Mine Boy. it gives u an inside of the apartheid period. am also checkout Nadine Gordimer, also issues on south africa. Homi Bhabha, interesting dude, if u are into folklore check out 'The Palmwine Drinkard' by Amos Tutuola. Shabaan Robert, Ngugi Wa Thing'o, Wole Soyinka, Ama Ata Aidoo[Changs: A Love Story] the last two names above there, most of them are play writers, i think another thing people could start reading plays, if u haven't, it is a very interesting sort of writing, and the usage and symbolistic ways the authors use certain things. if u are a person who is fascinated, and always looking for why was this there, or this used and not that, then i think check out some short plays by David Ives [WORS, WORDS, WORDS] a comedy, and i must say, this was my first time being introduced to Kafka, James Joyce, Swift, and Milton. anyways, more will pop up later, but in short, keep on reading, even if you are a slow reader, who hates to read, pick something u like, if it is comedy, get the smallest book and read it, because u start with one, and soon u see it growing. keep an open mind, for we can not see what the future beholds, even though the almighty knows, it is up to us to rich to it, and if we walk, with our eyes closed, then how could we reach where we are heading? code:
  2. meridian i so agree with the point on how the youth are not exposed with the culture which is vanishing. but what about those who are exposed and are ignorant? you know u gotta think both ways! haha and waaq don't worry, u ain't the only one without the mothertongue of somali, inshallah before the culture and language vanishes we shall learn!
  3. this is good, people calling out for change in a way, question brothers, we see what is going around with our youth, but have we gone out and talk and see what they are facing? has anyone said am going to a highschool and talk to these so called wannabe thugs and see why they think this way? etc
  4. hey bro this is a good article, thankyou for posting it, it could come in handy when it comes to digins up some info on the mother land. keep it up!
  5. i muust agree, this guy is good, thanks for the link!
  6. hmm, a dilemma, sorry, it seems everyone in a way agreeing to the issue of liberating nfd, well tis possible, the question is, when is somalia gonna liberate itself? you see we have to think about this in defferent corners, you have the somalia crying still, you have the ethopian side of somalia wanting to join up all in time, and then you have the part of kenya wanting to join up also to the somali republic, and yet the somali republic is no where to be found, still lost in the midst of its own people. i understand what you are trying to say enterpreneur, but lets not act in anger but in wisdom. you see alot of things are done out of anger and lead to a point of no return, so a most concise way would be to negotiate with the government of kenya, and u don't go straight to them, u dig up the cases, and fight it as a human rights issue, u take it to the formarly known committee OAU, sorry lost the name there, but u can take it in that way. now since u deal with this in a human act way, u give the somali kenyans their respect and dignity back, there way of living in harmony, although the government won't be pleased, but when certain decisions are made, i believe the nfd people will have it under control. without wars and without fighting for independence. now when that is achieved, i believe maybe then we will here the republic of somalia starting to come along and building itself. and whenit is built, u just take the issue to the laws and boundary acts etc. a suggestion from a sista

  20. the question of shariyah, and the whole issue of building the economical system in an islamic foundation, as the brother before spoke to how the bringing up of the society is not that strong, but also there is that personal interest, and personal judgement, that we all end up judging so fast before even thinking; from just seeing with our eyes. imagine if we had no eyes, would the islamic society be like this? this is the century of struggle especially for the islamic society, apparently we are heading to the last stages and steps of 'doomsday' in a sense of, every imagery written within the quran, from my prospective has occured, even forgetting the humans for a bit, lets think of the land and vegetation and animals. what are we as human doing to our own surroundings? iman itself has left the hearts of the people, and so when u say the islamic shariyah is what people should start working towards, the ideology of that is very nice and sounds sweet to the ears, but to the world and population i bet u know the answer, everyone is running, not even knowing for wat, because in the end of the day we all endup in the earth.
  21. what is the banadir bro talkin about? zaylici, i believe you should definetly go ahead with the research and writing, i personally would like to read what you have, because i myself am fascinated with who were the somalis ancestors. i heard of this guy IM.Lewis has some neat stuff written about somali clans and stuff, maybe that might help,if you haven't checked him out. and definetly if you can get the collection of essays published please let it be in english, inorder for everyone to be able to read with ease, and for sure in somali if you want to.
  22. hey people the discussion is going well, but in the end no matter what an individual commits, it is the state of the mind and heart that does the calculations of acting. so in a sense we could say the prefferences watsoever, but there is something called fate, and the theory of the brain, as for all this the so called'beauty'what is beauty? it is in the eye of the viewer, society, and so uuntil a person understands who they are interms of what they are and how they personally deifne this word which is wrongly used 99% then u can claim beauty!
  23. people i like wat am seeing! keep it going, this is great, yey!

you know, zeynab, don't worry, you are not alone who thinks this way, alot even some of our parents, wondering why would someone want to go back home, or help our communities within where we live, it is said by majority as a white thing, or why waste your time volunteering in the programs than find a job, or concerntrating on your school work, listen, we need to get out there, we are not living in africa anymore, opening your eyes will teeach you alot of things, with the western societies, we have soo many things to learn from, the good things mind you, not the so called smokin outside the schools type of thing, we need to be proud of our lives and who we are, the culture needs to be raised, not on the foods we eat, but the issue of praising one another when someone does good, and helping one another, for those who hang with the wrong crowds, the so called black(jamaican attitude) ain't cool, being a somali who is educated stylish,m knows how to talk, is cool, not pickingfights and speasking the lingo of watagwan man! you know wat am sayin?! but this is u might not think is a big thing, but go to public schools and look at the percentage rates of somali graduates and drop outs, or failures in classes such as sciences and maths, we all know our wickness is english due to the migration, which for us who can help, it will be good giving sometimes, to help them little kids, and give them the motives that they can be english philosophers if they want to, because from the last time i checked the somalis were the most poetic, imaginative, the language of which is spoken in imagery, and the list goes on! damn the lingo is fascinating! i'll stop my essay, lol relax and think of what you can achieve when u have the will!
