  1. Hell hath no fury like woman scorned! In his statement, Mr Jones said she grabbed his genitals and "pulled hard". I am in no way a violent person Amanda Monti He added: "That caused my underpants to come off and I found I was completely naked and in excruciating pain." The court heard that a friend saw Monti put Mr Jones's testicle into her mouth and try to swallow it. She choked and spat it back into her hand before the friend grabbed it and gave it back to Mr Jones. Doctors were unable to re-attach the organ. What a scary woman!
  2. 'Muslim Live 8' show for Darfur Around 4m people in Darfur are dependent on humanitarian aid A Live 8-style concert to help tackle the humanitarian crisis in Darfur will be put on by British Muslims. Organisers said that they hoped the event at Wembley Arena in London on 21 October would be a sell-out. They added that it was "shameful" that Muslims were not as concerned about the conflict in Sudan as they were by bloodshed elsewhere, such as Iraq. More than 2m people have been left homeless in Darfur since fighting broke out in 2003 when rebels took up arms. 'Huge embarrassment' Jehangir Malik, the UK national fundraising manager of Islamic Relief, said the concert would celebrate Eid at the end of Ramadan. I feel that the Muslim community must match the level of response that our government has done Saifuddin Ahmed Muslim Aid He added: "We are going for our own equivalent of Live 8. "It will be people trying to raise funds and raise the profile. We should hopefully see a sell-out and it will be a milestone." Singer Sami Yusuf will headline, and organisers said they hoped that members of all communities will attend. Fareena Alam, the editor of the Muslim magazine Q News, was part of a Muslim delegation backed by the Foreign Office which travelled to Darfur to talk to victims of the violence. She told a press conference: "It is very shameful that we can get very, very hot and bothered about other issues. "There is a lot of information about Darfur. There is no doubt this is Muslim-on-Muslim violence. In Iraq, the enemy is externalised. "In this situation where are the values that we talk about, that killing one life is about killing humanity? This has to be high profile. It is a huge embarrassment to us." Saifuddin Ahmed of Muslim Aid, said it was "quite shameful" that Muslim nations had donated less than western countries. He added: "I feel that the Muslim community must match the level of response that our government has done." Around 4m people in Darfur are dependent on humanitarian aid. Between January 1 and April 1 2007, 107,000 civilians were displaced in the region. The Live 8 concert in July 2005 highlighted global poverty before the G8 summit in Gleneagles. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6955341.stm

Ghanima Do they arrange accomodation for you or you have to arrange it yourself? Do you remember upto the level they teach?
  5. your Arabic improved recently Not on your nelly! Arabic is hard..even for someone who has been in dugsi quraan for years and daddy taught us at home. The results: Zero with nothing to show for! But my intention now is to go to Syria for 6 months to study it (of course after consulting with the boss ) After that..how hard can it be.
  6. Was meaning to ask.. Did you know Arabic before you moved and if you didnt, how long did it take for you get grips with the lingo (if you got the hangs of it at all).

  10. Naturist guilty of sexual assault A naturist who answered the door naked to a woman he had invited to tea has been convicted of sexual assault. Alan Cooper, 46, told the 21-year-old: "It's not rude to be nude" and sat next to her when she entered his flat. At St Albans Crown Court, she said: "He wanted to find my ticklish spot. He lifted up my t-shirt and my bra." Cooper of Puckeridge, Herts, had denied sexual assault on 7 September. He was remanded in custody while reports are prepared before he is sentenced. In my mind there is no difference between clothed and nude Alan Cooper Prosecutor Robert Porter told the court: "Mr Cooper is a naturist. He spends a lot of time at home wearing no clothes." Cooper, who lives with his wife Karen, who is also a naturist, had seen the woman earlier that day and invited her for a cup of tea at the home he was living in at that time in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. Initially she refused, but a little later she went to his home. Denied touching her "When she got there he opened the door and he was wearing nothing," said Mr Porter. "She went in and the two found themselves on the sofa. "The defendant sought to find her ticklish spot. He lifted up her t-shirt and bra and touched her breasts. She said she did not like it and he stopped." The girl then phoned her boyfriend. When he arrived Cooper, who had put on jogging bottoms, showed them both images of naked people on his computer, said the prosecutor. The landscape gardener denied any sexual touching. He told the jury: "I opened the door and peered round. I thought it was the postman. I said 'Hello, I have got nothing on, but if you want you can come in'. "The conversation got around to naturism. I said: 'It's not rude to be nude'. In my mind there is no difference between clothed and nude." Cooper denied ever touching her breast or lifting her bra. He said he had touched her "pecs" with the tips of his fingers when they were discussing body shapes. Judge Colin Colston QC remanded him in custody http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/6951414.stm "Is it rude to be nude?" No (in your own home...mind), but grabbing hold of a stranger's thrups generally is! As mentioned, what would have possessed her to actually enter and then "Find" herself on the sofa?

  14. Wah! Azmaya Please calm down. The Prophet, in Muwatta Imam Malik said (Wa ma awtita illa li'utamima makarim al-akhlaaq). ``Verily, I was sent for no other reason, except to perfect the noble traits of character'' - in other words; one of the Prophet's goals, in fact, the primary mission was the perfection of how people behave - their manners. The Prophet (SAWS) said: Nothing is weightier on the scales of the day of judgement than his good behaviour. Allah treats a person who is given to loose and vulgar talk with displeasure.
  15. Buuxo Call them and say " Qabiil uf walaalo..with respect" and put the phone down Che Wallahi there is nothing funnier than a grown up man jumping on the sofa when they saw a teeny weeny rat! I even make my brothers jump when i tap their feet with a duster or something similar and shout "ALLA DOOLIGA" whilst jumping up and down! One time he jumped on a table ..no less. It was hysterical!
  16. Salaam aleykum brother Nur What a wealth of info in this section. I just finished the first page of this thread. Maashallah. In the second page, I came accross this: "In the past, I have experienced several metaphyisical encounters that I cannot explain, I have seen things that look like humans going through walls, I have heard someone I know asking me for help in my quasi dream, later that person confirmed that they were in need for me to help, my dreams are mostly about flying like a bird, gliding in space, I can fly and fly looking down on neighborhoods I used to live in, a very enjoyable experience, all locked up in th ghaib. Can I explain dreams, or how I glide in my sleep, no, only Allah SWT can explain, but I am amazed, I am so ignorant." I found the above fascinating. It almost sounded as what a sufi would say. A brother suggested that I send peace and salli to our belowed prophet (saw) whilst touching the black stone at the Haram and you will be in different plane spiritually (kinda out of body experience type). Needless to say, I recalled this conversation whislt I was kissing the balck stone and waan ku salliyey nabiga (saw). Nothing occured. Maybe I was lacking spiritually.
  17. Salaam aleykum I dont know why these kinda discussions gets heated everytime. Dahia al Kahina Sister Ms Dh&Dh,your understanding and acceptance of pologym isnt necessarly the reality on the ground for all of us dear Dahia My acceptance and understanding of this issue is just my own and no one else realities. If you read few posts back, I never said that it was your reality. Nevertheless it is the reality of million women out there just like those who dont accept polygymy. Mademoiselle so why shouldn’t they exercise that right? maxaa sanka la isaga galin Oh dear madame, you got the wrong end of the stick. Qof sanka iska gelinaya ayaaba iska yar. This is just preference of some couples and they are also exercising their rights. You realise I am just presenting the other side of the coin. I personally have no problem anyone exercising their rights. However I completely agree with you when you say that unless we are in the situation, no one knows what they'd do. But this never stops us having opinion. Azmaya I am quite speechless at your rant. No man would surely mess with you . Take it easy my dear. Men dont make us but we make them. Accepting polygymy doesnt make one st*pid, or low in self-steem or weak. In fact it takes courage and strength in character to share your man. Before I am jumped on here..not accepting polygymy doesnt make one st*pid either. zenobia I find it disrespectful and even odd, when people try to patronise women who aren't feeling that setup. My intention isnt to patronise anyone. As others and i said earlier diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks. Of course they have their right to dislike the idea but one must realise that there are those who welcome the set-up and there is also no need to patronise them either. Anyhow..I think I have said enough of this subject. On a side note Dhucdhuc, I'm glad to see you defending a Saudi for once A saudi? who is that? I only know the Hammer man as the only ajnabi here Bal introduce me to the Arab-man..It aint peacenow...is it?
  18. Salaam The TFG wont be in power for long. So I doubt very much that Geedi or A/Yusuf will reap the reward. Unless they line their pockets and run and more importantly lumber us (Somalia) with contracts which would allow the big foreign oil companies into Somalia and tie us to them which we cant get out. With these production-sharing agreements which allows the country to own its oil, but gives a share of profits to the international companies that invest in producing the oil, Somalia could get locked in now to deals on bad terms for decades to come. I cant believe that Geedi allowed the actual company who are grabbing major slice of the profits to draft the new legislation to be presented to the parliament? Where are the Somali intellectuals to scrutinise these dodgy deals? What worries me the most is the oil companies that will be able to exploit wadankeena oo qasan by securing favourable terms that cannot be changed in future. On a side note, will these foreign companies be able to pay tax on their profits in Somalia? But this aint the current problem. Allow noo sahal.
  19. The era of gentle exercise is over. It's official: you've got to work up a sweat Polly Curtis, health correspondent Friday August 17, 2007 The Guardian Runners in the London Marathon. Adults are now being told they need regular vigorous exercise. Photograph: Rebecca Naden Official advice that 30 minutes of gentle exercise a day is enough to improve your health has been revised by the scientists who first developed the international fitness guidelines. Until now, government recommendations have suggested that people can achieve a minimum level of fitness through their normal daily routines. But amid fears that the lightest of activities such as dusting and the stroll to the car are being counted as exercise, a new study by the public health experts behind the formula concludes adults need to add jogging and twice-weekly weight training sessions if they want to cut their risk of heart disease and obesity. The scientists, world-leaders in public health and exercise advice, say they want to clarify the fitness guidelines for healthy adults which were adopted by the World Health Organisation and later used as a template for healthy living by the UK government. Some people have misunderstood the original message and are doing too little exercise, they argue. But they go even further saying explicitly that people should do vigorous as well as moderate aerobic exercise because of the "substantial science base" that it is good for you. The paper published in Circulation, the journal of the American Heart Association, includes authors who are influential members of the American College of Sports Medicine. They write: "There are people who have not accepted, and others who have misinterpreted, the original recommendation. Some people continue to believe that only vigorous intensity activity will improve health while others believe that the light activities of their daily lives are sufficient to promote health." The new guidelines say: · 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day is still the minimum, but vigorous as opposed to moderate activity should be "explicitly" recommended · Combining days of moderate exercise with other days of vigorous exercise is better for you · Moderate exercise should be in addition to daily activities such as casual walking, shopping or taking out the rubbish · People should do two weight-training sessions a week · Adults over 65 or those who are infirm during their 50s and early 60s should also do balancing exercises if they are at risk of falling and draw up appropriate exercise plans with their doctors. "Many adults, including those who wish to improve their personal fitness or further reduce their risk of premature chronic health conditions and mortality related to physical inactivity, should exceed the minimum recommended amounts of physical activity," it says. But their apparent change of heart exposes the dilemma facing health officials of how to encourage an increasingly overweight population to exercise without deterring them with over-ambitious programmes. Anti-obesity experts suggested that advising people to do weight-training was unrealistic. David Haslam, chair of the National Obesity Forum, said: "If you suggested everyone here should do weight-training twice a week they wouldn't do it. They don't have the time or money for the gym, it would be an unrealistic guideline. I'd rather see healthy habits built into daily life - gyms aren't a sustainable habit." Paul Gately, professor of exercise and obesity at Leeds Metropolitan University, said: "Scientists keep changing the goalposts but this advice is trying to provide more specific information for specific groups of people to encourage them to do appropriate exercise. "It's the age-old problem of one-size-fits-all public health advice versus tailored programmes. People who are very overweight would have to do an hour of exercise a day just to maintain their weight if they aren't going to change their diets." The authors include several experts who are on a high-level committee in the US which next year will announce America's new physical activity guidelines. Their revisions this month are widely expected to be adopted as official advice there. Their original recommendations in 1995 were quickly adopted by the WHO and by the UK government in 1996. In 2004 the chief medical officer for England and Wales, Sir Liam Donaldson, republished the recommendations in his attempt to underscore the importance of more rigorous exercise and show that people could achieve the total through smaller 10-minute chunks. It was revealed then that up to two-thirds of men and three-quarters of women were failing to meet the 30-minute goal. Scotland's advice is similar to that in England and Wales. A spokeswoman for the Department of Health said it was watching developments in the evidence about how much exercise was optimum but there were no plans at the moment to change the advice. http://lifeandhealth.guardian.co.uk/health/story/0,,2150618,00.html
  20. Lily No excuse for second wife indeed. But then, there is no need for excuse. Zenobia I am merely presenting different point of view. I have a friend who suggested that her husband marry her friend. Another one wanted to concentrate on her career, so she married off her hubby and she gets a free babysitter whilst her husband and her children are looked after when she is away on business trips. These kind of sitautions occur more and more lately amongs converts and increasingly somalis (at least where I am). To me it sounds very convenient as well. So the concept of second marriages isnt alien at all. So whilst everyone has different reality, I am posting some of that reality on the ground here on SOL. Contrary to popular belief, it aint only the husband who benefits from this sort of arrangement. Nevertheless, everyone is entitled to whatever kind of marriage they like. We are having discussion after all and not forced multiple marriages on the sisters here .
  21. 1. From Abi Barza that the Prophet (sas) said: "My greatest fear for you is the appetites of transgression with regard to your stomachs and your privates and the inclinations which lead astray". (Ahmad and others and its narrators are people of sahih) 2. "Not reaching your goals: Muhammad ibn Wasi said: Whoever eats little will understand and make others understand and will be clear and humble. Overeating weighs a person down and keeps him from much of what he wants [to accomplish]." 3. Al-Hassan Al-Basri: The test of Adam, peace be upon him, was food and it is your test until Qiyama. And, it used to be said: Whoever takes control of his stomach gets control of all good deeds. And: Wisdom does not reside in a full stomach. One day, Al-Hassan offered some food to his companion who said: I have eaten until I am no longer able to eat. To which Al-Hassan said: Subhaana Allah! Does a Muslim eat until he is no longer able to eat? 4. Allah grants this world to those whom He loves and those whom He does not love, but grants hunger only to those whom he loves. 5. Ash-Shafi’I said: I have not filled myself in sixteen years because filling oneself makes the body heavy, removes clear understanding, induces sleep and makes one weak for worship. 6. In Muslim and Bukhari: "The believer eats with one stomach while the kafir eats with seven stomachs." Meaning: The believer eats with the manners of Islam and in moderation, while the kafir eats based on desires and gluttony and so he eats with seven stomachs. 7. Also: "Food for one is enough for two and food for two is enough for three and food for three is enough for four." 8. Also: From Aisha: The family of Muhammad (sas) never filled themselves with wheat bread three days in a row from the time he came to Madinah until he passed away." 9. A Muslim should not merely follow his appetites. Allah said: {Then, they were followed by generations who neglected the prayer and followed their appetites. They will encounter a pit of fire except for those who repent…} Maryam 59-60. 10. The best generations didn’t. "The best generation is my generation, followed by the one after them then the one after them. Then will come a people who bear witness but are not asked to bear witness, who swear oaths but do not fulfill them and fatness will appear among them." (Muslim &Bukhari).
  22. ^^ Zen dear There is no khasab. Just preparing them for the realities of the world... Joking aside, it is just my opinion and i am just showing them that there are women out there who dont mind pologymy, contrary to what people say. It is merely an alternative path.
