^^ I agree Nephthys. If love, respect and consideration is all present in the marriage, it really doesnt hurt to ask each other's opinion before anyone does anything in the marriage.

De-clutter your workload Loz. Besides, what is the rush? What cant wait that you have to do right this minute? Why take paperwork to bed when there are far more interesting to be engaged with? Surely it isnt that important. When I used to work, I never used to understand the term "deadline". I always ask myself, "If I can do this tomorrow, why do it now, what is the rush". Although i was tempted to apply this attitude towards the worship of Allah, I got scaried I might die now than later.

Check out who's waxing the usual tirade straight out of BNP manual. How progressive do you want the muslim lady to be? Shouldnt you congratulate her for her courage and braving the niqab in this hostile environment? I am also fed up with people not giving the sisters the freedom to express their faith. It is a choice and with all the niqabi sisters I have met, niqab never hindred their progress in whichever path they chose. The more sisters wear it, the more it will become part and a parcel of this multicultural soceity.

I ask myself a question: How far can a wife go to please her hubby? Remember, our faith strongly encourages this so long as he is just and fair and best to his wife.

Turkey eases ban on headscarves Turkey's parliament has approved two constitutional amendments easing the ban on women wearing Islamic headscarves in universities. The issue is deeply divisive in Turkey, where the state is strictly secular, and protests are expected. The government said the ban meant many girls were being denied an education. But the secular establishment, including generals and academics, see this as a first step to allowing Islam to figure more largely in public life. Burka ban Parliament voted 403-107 in favour of a first amendment, which will insert a paragraph into the constitution stating that everyone has the right to equal treatment from state institutions, Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan was quoted by AP as saying. MPs then backed by 403-108 votes a second amendment stating "no-one can be deprived of [his or her] right to higher education", AP said. We say it will damage secularity... Once you do that - we believe you damage democracy Ural Akbulut Rector of Middle East Technical University Opposition parties said in advance of the vote that they would challenge the changes in the constitutional court if they were passed. A strict headscarf ban had been in force in Turkish universities since 1997. The ban came after the staunchly secularist military had exerted pressure to oust a government it saw as too Islamist. The changes state that only traditional scarves will be permitted in universities, tied loosely under the chin. Headscarves that cover the neck are still banned, as is the chador and the all-enveloping burka. Ural Akbulut, rector of the Middle East Technical University, in Ankara, says the changes represent the imposition of religious beliefs into the constitution. "We say it will damage secularity," he told the BBC. "Once you do that - we believe you damage democracy." Missing out The BBC's Sarah Rainsford says those who wear the headscarf dismiss that as paranoia. They say the scarf is simply an expression of their personal religious belief. As Turkey's population is predominantly Muslim, two-thirds of all Turkish women cover their heads, meaning thousands have been missing out on the opportunity to attend college. Many Turks argue that is unfair and there has been widespread public support for the move. But tens of thousands of people who were against lifting the ban are expected to join protest rallies in the capital on Saturday. Modesty You must be very young, hence your naivity. Surely you find racism in every society, white, black, muslims, non-muslims. You can be naive to think that certain societies are free from it. Since you think somalis and indians etc are racists or whatever you think, who do you like and what race are they? I'd be very interested to live amongst them.

Sharia law comments criticised Press Assoc. - Religious and secular groups have criticised the Archbishop of Canterbury after he said the adoption of elements of Islamic sharia law in the UK "seems unavoidable". Dr Rowan Williams said there was a place for finding a "constructive accommodation" in areas such as marriage - allowing Muslim women to avoid western divorce proceedings. But his comments have been criticised by Christian and secular groups, while a spokesman for Prime Minister Gordon Brown insisted British law would be based on British values, and sharia law would be no justification for acting against national law. Mr Brown's spokesman said: "Our general position is that sharia law cannot be used as a justification for committing breaches of English law, nor should the principles of sharia law be included in a civil court for resolving contractual disputes. "If there are specific instances like stamp duty, where changes can be made in a way that's consistent with British law and British values, in a way to accommodate the values of fundamental Muslims, that is something the Government would look at." He added: "There is always going to be a debate about this issue. In general terms, if there are specific instances that can be looked at on a case-by-case basis, that is something we can look at. But the Prime Minister believes British law should apply in this country, based on British values." Alistair McBay, spokesman for the National Secular Society said: "In a plural society, all citizens are equal under the law and the Archbishop's comments directly undermines this. "We have segregated schools, segregated scout groups and even segregated toilets for Muslims, and now the Archbishop says we should have different laws, it's madness. On the one hand religious groups say they want to integrate, but actually they want to segregate." Stephen Green, national director of Christian Voice said: "This is a Christian country with Christian laws. If Muslims want to live under sharia law then they are free to emigrate to a country where sharia law is already in operation. Any accommodation with sharia law does nothing to help social cohesion. Christian law has been eroded by secularism and this country was founded on Christian values." Dr Williams said other religions enjoyed such tolerance of their own laws, but stressed that it could never be allowed to take precedence over an individual's rights as a citizen. He said it would also require a change in perception of what sharia involved beyond the "inhumanity" of extreme punishments and attitudes to women seen in some Islamic states. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/pressass/20080207/tuk-sharia-law-comments-criticised-6323e80_1.html

Microsoft has offered to buy the search engine company Yahoo for $44.6bn (22.4bn) in cash and shares. The offer, contained in a letter to Yahoo’s board, is 62% above Yahoo’s closing share price on Thursday. Yahoo has been struggling to compete with Google, which has also been a competitor to Microsoft. Can Yahoo help Microsoft take on Google? Yahoo cut its revenue forecasts earlier this week and said it would have to spend an additional $300m this year trying to revive the company. In a conference call, Microsoft's Kevin Johnson said that the combination of the two companies would create an entity that could better compete with Google. It is a shotgun marriage, but the person holding the shotgun is Google Tim Weber, business editor, BBC News website What's at stake, who will win? "Today the market [for online search and advertising] is increasingly dominated by one player," he said. Chairman quit Yahoo confirmed that it has received an unsolicited offer and said that its board would evaluate the proposal, "carefully and promptly in the context of Yahoo's strategic plans and pursue the best course of action to maximize long-term value for shareholders." If Yahoo accepted the offer, competition authorities both in the US and the European Union would be likely to investigate the tie-up. Yahoo chief executive, Jerry Yang, announced on Tuesday that he intended to lay off 1,000 staff as part of a restructuring plan. Terry Semel, who stepped down as chief executive last June, also quit as non-executive chairman on Thursday. Microsoft said that Yahoo shareholders could choose to receive either cash or shares. YAHOO'S FALLING PROFITS Oct to Dec 2007 down 23% July to Sept 2007 down 5% April to June 2007 down 2% Jan to March 2007 down 11% Yahoo share price Microsoft share price Google share price Yahoo shares have fallen 46% since reaching a year-high of $34.08 in October. They opened 51.2% higher. Microsoft opened 4.3% lower while Google shares fell 6.8%. "Ultimately this corporate marriage was forced by the rise of Google, which has grown into a serious competitor for both Microsoft as a software company and Yahoo as an internet portal," said Tim Weber, business editor of the BBC News website. "It is a shotgun marriage, but the person holding the shotgun is Google." 'Exorbitant premium' According to its letter to Yahoo, Microsoft attempted to enter talks about a deal a year ago, but was rebuffed because Yahoo was confident about the "potential upside" presented by the reorganisation and operational activities that were being put in place at the time. "A year has gone by, and the competitive situation has not improved," Microsoft's letter said. But there has been some concern about the price that Microsoft is offering. HAVE YOUR SAY This smacks of desperation from Microsoft who have consistently failed to achieve a meaningful online presence Matt, UK Send us your comments"To me, the premium seems exorbitant, for what is a dwindling business," said Tim Smalls from the brokerage firm Execution LLC. "I personally don't see how the synergies of Microsoft-Yahoo is going to take on Google." Other analysts were more enthusiastic about the offer. "It is a fantastic offer. It is game on," said Colin Gillis from Canaccord Adams. "This consolidates the marketplace down to Google versus Microsoft. These two companies will be going head to head." bbcnews I wish I came up with the idea of Yahoo.
