This is expensive trip . It's cheap from europe but for us living in north america. Is going to cost us 2much. Funny part is they have flight trip twice a week. I think they will cut down to 1 week. As much I love Mogadsho , I don't think not many as are optimistic about peace in that city. Sheik sharif loves airplanes, from macalin dugsi to president of somalia. He must be rare case.

While we fighting our selves our neighbors are making big gains. Lamu port project launched for South Sudan and Ethiopia 2 March 2012 Last updated at 10:35 ET There have been protests against the port by some environmentalists and residents of Lamu island Construction has begun on a $23bn (£14.5bn) port project and oil refinery in south-eastern Kenya's coastal Lamu region near war-torn Somalia's border. An oil pipeline, railway and motorway will also be built linking Lamu to South Sudan and Ethiopia. Newly independent South Sudan plans to use Lamu as its main oil export outlet. A BBC reporter says security concerns for the project may explain the presence of Ethiopian and Kenyan troops in Somalia aiming to pacify the region. 'Biggest African project' Kenya's leader Mwai Kibaki launched the project along with his South Sudanese and Ethiopian counterparts, Salva Kiir and Meles Zenawi respectively. "I have no doubt that this day will go down in history as one of the defining moments - when we made a major stride to connect our people to the many socio-economic opportunities that lie ahead," AFP news agency quotes Mr Kibaki as saying at the inauguration ceremony. Known as Lamu Port South Sudan Ethiopia Transport Corridor (Lapsset), it is expected to be completed within four years with initial costs coming from the three governments and plans to attract international investment. Steven Ikuwa, the administrator in charge of Lapsset, told the BBC the scale of the plans was huge. "I am proud to say this is one of the biggest projects that we are carrying out in Africa." The BBC's Noel Mwakugu in Lamu says there are worries about the impact of the project on Lamu district, which is one of East Africa's most beautiful and relatively unspoiled environments along the Indian Ocean and includes a cultural heritage site on Lamu Island. "Lamu is a living heritage. Already Unesco has declared Lamu a World Heritage Site - as an endangered site," Mualimu Badi from the Save Lamu group told the BBC. "If 500,000 people come to work as workers, we stand to lose that status." Mr Badi also said local residents fear they would be made homeless by the project as most people in the area are unable to prove their right to live in their homes. In response to these complaints, Mr Kibaki has announced that residents will be issued with land title deeds and his administration will provide training for 1,000 young people to prepare for future opportunities presented by the port. Oil export alternatives Our correspondent says Lamu's 32-bearth port will be five times larger than Kenya's only other Indian Ocean port, Mombasa - which has been struggling to serve the needs of landlocked countries to the south and west of Kenya. Tourism plays a large part in the local economy around Lamu Lamu will allow Kenya to earn more revenue from its northern landlocked neighbours, he says. Ethiopia will have an alternative sea port to Djibouti and another export route if oil is discovered in its ****** region, which borders Somalia and where oil exploration is currently under way. For South Sudan, it offers a solution to its dependence on Sudan from which it split last July - six years after the end of a bitter civil war. Since the secession, the two countries have been embroiled in a dispute over oil, with South Sudan turning off the tap on its oil exports though Sudan. Our reporter says the project will also open up development to northern parts of Kenya, which has been neglected since independence from the UK in 1963. The north-east of Kenya also hosts the world's largest refugee camp, Dadaab, home to more than 450,000 Somalis who have fled conflict and famine during the past 21 years. Kenya sent in troops over its long border with Somalia in pursuit of al-Shabab militants in October, after several people, including foreign tourists, were kidnapped, including some from near Lamu. The authorities in Kenya blame the Islamist al-Shabab group, which controls much of southern and central Somalia, for much of the instability affecting the sub-region. Analysts say Kenya and Ethiopia, whose troops now occupy substantial parts of the country, hope that with progress on the military front, Somalia's bickering politicians can come up with a new constitution that will allow elections to be held and relative peace to return to the lawless country.

Interesting development , maybe he can give khaatumo state people the chance to choose thier destiny. -
Are they intelligent than us ? I would like to understand why is that we as the believers of religion of peace and people Of one color ,one language and one religion are not so peaceful nation ? We are surrounded by nations of different believers and we think to our self that we far better. You can meet a Somali person in north pole and yet talking about reer habal being bad. Why is that it's 2012 and yet Somalis are so concentrated on them selves. We never use others as example. China is billion of people ,India is about to reach billion of people and still they live peacefully. War ummaddaan somaliyeed maxaa ku dhacay ,intee la yihiin ?

Realistically speaking, what can shariif do ? He can't hardly travel without protection of African union. He can support the brave people of khaatumo state but him self needs liberation from alshabab. Khaatumo dont need sharif, but they need themselves. iskaashato ma kufto. They need unite and make their case heard otherwise they will be slave driven by reer habal for long time to come.

Make sure you to keep your dual citizenship in place. Somalia is no near to becoming stable nation for another 10-20years unless a miracle happens in the case of Angola . They had civil war for 30 years and look now . They live ok and taking advantage of thier newly found wealth. Guinea is growing fast and has potential of becoming decent African nation All these countries had civil wars but now living large

Nin-Yaaban;796347 wrote: Ethiopia is top ten because of their population and their rapidly growing economy. That's not a joke. Somalia wouldn't have made it in that list even if we had no civil war and a growing economy. It's just the reality. U have to understand Africa has a 1 billion people, our population of 20 million wouldn't make any difference. A sudden change in our economy can make us top ten. You can have millions of people and be poor like Nigeria and be small like Oman,Qatar and UAE and have smooth economy growth

If you are someone important in Mogadishu , make sure you have armed skinnies around your shoulders. Where is the justice, no one was brought to court or ever caught on these criminal act. Former Somaliweyn radio director Abokar Hassan Gadaf was fatally shot in Wadajir district at about 6:00pm (1500 GMT) on Tuesday evening . Three men with pistols opened fire on the journalist as he was knocking on the door of his home, according to family members and witnesses. "Three people armed with pistols approached and shot him several times in the head and chest. He was standing in front of his home and was knocking on the door," Mohamed Dahir, a neighbor, told Somalia Report. The murderers escaped quickly. A local militia loyal to the Wadajir governor has begun searching in the area, although no suspects have yet been captured. Abukar, father of four, was rushed to Madina Hospital where he was later confirmed dead from wounds. Qaali Mo’alin, a female journalist working for the local FM station Radio Shabelle, which lost journalist Hassan Osman Abdi on the first day of 2012, told Somalia Report that she and colleagues were shocked and angered saying, “this is a double outrage, sad both for us and his family members. However, it will not stop us from reporting, even though we know that several senior media workers have been killed in Somalia since 2007.” On January 28, Hassan Osman (better known as 'Hassan Fantastic'), the director of Mogadishu-based Radio Shabelle, was shot and killed by gunmen while returning home in Wadajir district of Mogadishu. “It is really a heartbreaking moment for us, and I cannot talk too much about him at the moment,” said one of the relatives for the late journalist, who asked not to be named. “I’m not sure if Abokar Hassan Gadaf has been involved in journalism since Somaliweyn radio was taken by al-Shabaab,” he added. Another family member said Abokar had shown determination not to be deterred from activism by the threats from al-Shabaab. “After al-Shabaab fighters looted the radio station, they have been calling him and threatening, but he did not allow that to stop him. He was working with local NGOs in Mogadishu that al-Shabaab accuses of covertly support Western ideology and being against Islam,” Nuur Hajji told Somalia Report. According to a relative, Kadaf was working as ex-Banadir coordinator for youths. Ex-Banadir is one of local NGOs in Mogadishu that organizes for peace. He was believed to be the organizer of several rallies in Mogadishu against the al-Shabaab militants that were attended by Banadir administrative officials. Somaliweyn was an independent FM radio station, which was looted two years ago by al-Shabaab who took transmitters and computers. Since the closure of the radio station, Abokar has been involved in advocating for peace in Somalia, working with non-governmental organizations and civil society groups. The governor of Wadajir district Ahmed Hassan Addow condemned the shooting, saying " We are currently investigating, and what we know for now is only that armed militias killed Abukar. We are investigating and will release the results of our investigations in a day or two. For now, know that we will not stop until we capture the murderers, who I think are hidden in the district and our security forces are busy hunting for them.” Somalia Report contacted TFG Deputy Minister of Information Bile Nuur ***** for further details, but he declined to make a statement at this time, saying only that they are investigating and will issue a statement on the shooting later. Kidnapping, torture, death threats and other intimidations are sadly part of life as a journalist in most of Somalia. Reporters Without Borders indicates that 11 journalists have been killed in just the past two years in Somalia, and this will be the third murder of a prominent journalist in 2012.
