Brown Suga Walaalo there seems to be this concept in your mind that men and women are the same.The only similarity between the 2 is that they are both God's creation but everything else is different.I honestly believe that women are a symbol of virtouosness and as such should demonstrate that.How she dresses,walks and talks contributes to that.You can label a man anything that you can come up with and that label won't stick,on the other hand you label a woman a whore and that will haunt her for ever.Call this a cold world but that is how it is. A woman in other words has a larger responsibilty on her shoulders than a man when it comes to how people percieve her.She has to walk a fine line period.This is in her interest and the interest of those people who care about her.

Translating something from one language into aonther usally means that the true meaning of that is in some way or other lost in the in the process.If the purpose of this translation is for eduacational purposes then it is a good idea but if its for a muslim audience then its the duty of that muslim to learn the Quran as it is in Arabic. If you look at the million translations of the bible I think you would understand how far each translation has deviated from the other.

Zaylici I find most of your wrtings quite amazing in light of the fact that you refer to written works that are either availible or can be obtained easily.I have heard of great many writings but I was always under the impression that these belonged to either the Ottomans or the Eygptian rulers of the areas you mentioned.One fact is clear though and that is before the arrival of the Europeans in present Somalia, there were extensive periods of Arab/Turkish rule in places like Zaylac and most coastal towns in Somalia.Another point to ponder is that most writers of either Arab or Turkish descent have predominatly had either aliases derived from the areas where they lived. Ahmed Gurey's famous wars with the Ethiopains took place in the 15 century and amazinly enough his main suppliers of weapons were the Ottoman empire who were rulers of Zaylac then,this prompted the Ethiopan kings to appeal to the dominant Christain powers of that time who happen to have been the Portugese to help them fend off the Muslim attacks.The man sent to help fight Ahmed Gurey was Christopher Da Gama who was the brother of the famous traveller Vasco Da Gama.Upon arrival the forces of Ahmed Gurey and the Ottoman empire attcked them soon as they set foot into Ethiopia and subsequently killed Christopher Da Gama and seized half the weapons. To cut a long story short the works you have mentioned are the works of the rulers of that time but were wrtten in areas of Somalia. The earliest known Somali writings that I have heard are however from Zaylac and were written in the early part of the 20 century in a local script.I had a friend who even told me that he knows people who still know how to write that but I have yet to see it myself.

I would think that most Somalis having seen the scourage of war would have been mortified at the very thought of seeing one where ever it may rear its ugly head but I get the feeling here that there are quite a number of people who seem to think that it sometimes is the solution.I get the impression here malaha Sol baa u yar baahaan in malaha gacma leys yar daro.On a more serious note I personally think that when ever war breaks out its the masakiin who die and the people who start it walk away unscatched.Sad but true. I think its an inherent will to do evil that takes over and not the circumstances that dictate whether a person will do evil or good.Lets take the case of someone mercilessly killing an innocent person while their own blood will risk their life to rescue another.What makes these souls different is not the circumstance but rather their inherent desire to either commit evil or do good for others.

Late last year I attended a gathering of Somalis at George Washington University in DC and one of the guest speakers was Abdirahim Abbi farah, the former under Secretary general of the UN and what he said on Khat amazed me.He said in the fifties there were only 12 people who chewed khat in Hargeysa.Now 50 years later the problem has become an epidemic.North to South, East to West people are hooked to this.In the past it was a male habit,now women are chewing it though not on the same level of course but the weird thing is you don't hear a lot of voices being raised about this. Financially its draining hard currency out of the nation.It costs around $50 mill a year to maintain this habit and you know where all this ends up in......Ethiopia or at least most of it. For a nation as poor as we are, it sure is a lot of greenbacks going towards getting high.

Baashi I think the North has sought after what you describe above for over thirty years. A Somalia where everyone got an equitable portion of the pie ,alas where did that get them?? I do not want to quash nobody's dream but the fact of the matter is Somaliland is here to stay at least in our lifteime. Its therefore in the best interest of the other Somalis to not sing songs of yesteryears of Somali unity but to move forward.I sure as hell think that there are other areas where you all need to concentrate on that will need your effort.

There is nothing perfect in this world and a language is the least perfect of all.There is nothing called perfect somali.Its made up of different dialects.What is perfect about it however is the fact that we all understand each other. I don't know if you noticed it but dialects are derived from the basic needs of different areas and diiferent backgrounds.Somali dialects have similarly been derived on those basis.That is it.PERIOD.
