  2. I agree with you,We as Somalis have this negative perception of what is ours is bad and that what we learn from others is far superior to our traditions and as a result we are more likely to easily shun ours in the hope of being accepted. The more civilized a person is among Somalis is measured by how one acts, talks or behaves like a foreigner.Such a narrow perception I generally think is due to the fact that Somalis overall are either the first generation or second generation urban dwellers forcing us to shun any ties that would tie us back to the good old days of reer badiyenimo. Just take the case of the Ethiopnains, you will never see forks and knives in an Ethiopian restuarant anywhere and all those Ferenjis eating there honestly are delighted not only at the food but also the chance to eat with their hands.
  3. I followed the show from day 1 and I actually was rooting for Troy.I thought he had the real people skills and he could sell like no one else.As for Kwame the minute he picked Omarosa I knew he was doomed. If you remember the day she was fired he was the project leader and he took her to the boardroom which resulted in her a$$ getting fired. They say payback is a b!tch but I think thats what Kwame gotOverall I think the brother shone like a star on that show. With that Harvard degree I'm sure there's plenty coming his way better than what Trump had to offer.
  4. Congrats Sophist..... Wishing you and the bride all the best.

    Cricket

I think he's an excellent player but in a bad team. The W Indies are no longer the cricket powerhouse they have been and that is the reason why Lara is currently struggling....Anyways he did get back the test record back again.... Lara breaks the record again
  7. Baashi What would you suggest..........???? I'm dying to know what people like you think is the solution to this problem.Sidee baad u aragtaa xaalka maanta Somali u bahanatey oo loogu soo daabaqo dhib jira maanta?
  8. Baashi Xamaasidii 1960's calanka koonfuur keentey wey dhamaatey and I'm sure Timacadde if he was alive today would regret having driven people to such an unhappy union.
  9. Originally posted by LANDER: what is pathetic? it is pathetic to be called reer xamar now? or do you suppose I have ill will towards reer xamar simply for pointing out inconsistencies. Most the somali folk I know out here are reer xamar including my neighboors, its all love and kaftan. I wasn't making any statement regarding xamarawiis, so leave your insecurities at home folks. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL Sensitive people aa meesha ku jira......Warka balbalari so as not to cause any confusion....
  10. Baashi Nin guurigiisu gubanayo hadalkiisu and his so called "intellectual" diatribe against Somaliland is meaningless.I would suggest MM Gure and their likes to invest their time and energy in solving their own problems(Nairobi fiasco is a case at hand)instead of pointing fingers like a band of fools wondering aimlessly with absolutely no hope to speak of. As for the issue of Somalis sharing ties hore loo yidhi gacantada oo qudhunto(qurunto) waa leyska gooyaa,it causes more harm than good.I think people like you whose reasoning I respect will understand that.
  11. If you get caught on camera passing a red light, you can write a letter to the county stating that you were not the driver and get it notarised by a Notary public, send that to the ticket issuing authority and your fine will be waived and no points taken off your driving record but remember the only sure way to avoid this is to stop when the light turns RED....
  12. Sweet......one happy caga baruur bride dheh Hibo iyo baruur naga hooya
  13. Scorpion Sorry if my question came across as being sarcastic but I was actually talking from experience, you see over the years I have noticed as a person I tend to give the best advice to others but caught in a similar situation my short memory fails me.If only I could listen to half the advice I dish out then maybe I would have been a better person than the one I am. PS Your answer was well put and very reasonable especially the very last sentence......

  20. I wouldn't want to ride in a car Maliaka is piloting...........Ilaah baa wada weeye xaalku..
  21. This debate is common among societies where the men aren't circimcised too.I remember a pilot friend of my dad's from Uganda who had to go under the chopping knife when he decided to marry a woman from a another tribe whose traditions included mens circumcision(apparently it wasnt the norm in is his tribe).Imagine the embrassment of having to be circimcised at age 40.........  I just dont understand how someone can pose such a question,we know what FGM is all about and the effects it has on women. For anyone to make that a precondition of marriage is absolutely absurd.I dont think any guy in his right mind should care about something a girl was subjected to at age 6 or 7. I would however make it extra clear to my wife to not put my daughters through the same torture waa haddi Ilaahey i siiyo.
  22. Spadez Great idea but can you tell me if the MSN listserv is better than Yahoo groups? I know Yahoo has unlimited space plus archives and its also free. If anyone is interested, please let Spadez know.
  23. Great idea African,I think such events will continue to keep Somaliland in the limelight. I do have this one suggestion..... I have always thought of estabilishing a kind of mailing list of students in the diaspora,a place where they can exchange ideas of how to further improve the education sector both for Somaliland youth and Somalis in general both abroad and back home.We do have a large pool of students here on SOL and we could use that to start a mailing list.I know more people nowadays go home for vacations than before and half of those who travel back can help while on vacation like mentoring in either the universities or high schools.I know a cousin of mine who went back a year ago and ended up doing that both in Amoud and Hargeysa university. He counts that as one of the greatest achievements todate he's ever done.We just dont have to stop there,we can go further ,students in universities are in a better position to get book donations from students or faculty that we could send back home.Anything that's sent back will have a value to someone back home.Furthermore lots of universities now provide online classes to third world students at nominal prices or for free.I'm sure in the name of charity some of you could get your professors to participate in such a program. These are just some of the thoughts running through my mind but let me know if this sounds like a plan.I know everything comes together when you pool in ideas and thoughts as a group and I think we have enough smart people in here to kick this off the ground. Horaa loo yidhi cidna uma maqna ceelna uma qodna.
