  1. BIG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Stop dreaming.
  2. AMISOM have supported the TFG forces in operations to take control of two further districts in Mogadishu, Bondere and Hodan, and the AMISOM hospital is treating and evacuating a number of injured soldiers. Hon. Wafula Wamunyinyi said: “The progress of the combined TFG and AMISOM force is very impressive. They are working together very effectively now and taking ground from the extremists every day. “I am full of admiration and praise for the courage and dedication of our soldiers. It is sadly inevitable that some will be injured in these security operations, but we have very good medical facilities and committed doctors and nurses who work tirelessly to treat and recover our soldiers. We are very proud of the work they are all doing and we pray that our injured soldiers will have a quick recovery. “Since bringing the civilian headquarters element to Mogadishu last month, we are very impressed with the progress that is being made. With greater security developing in the city, we can start to deploy more assistance and support to both the Transitional Federal Institutions and the civilian population, especially on the humanitarian front. We are looking at the development of a number of projects which we will announce presently. AMISOM urges the international community to start to look again at the support they can offer.”
  3. May Allah destroy Khawarij al-shabaab. Who have made it their mission to bring misery, disunity and destruction to the somali people. May Allah dishonour them and cast them to hell. May Allah swt protect the people from them, their murdering lying ways. Oh Allah have mercy on the somali people who are truly your slaves against these bewitched that kill for no reason and call your servants disbelivers. Oh Allah bring peace to somalia and help the islamic government of shariff, ameen, ameen
  4. There are over forty presidential candidates and one would expect that they produce their policies and strategies to deal with the challenges ahead. However, neither 550 parliamentarians nor others who are currently involving the process are demanding to scrutinize candidates’ reasons of wanting to lead the nation. Without accountability or scrutiny, candidates will have the opportunity that they wished from the first place, hence the increase of candidates. Front-runners of the current presidential elections are doing their best to convince members of the parliament in a different ways, some are concentrating on getting alliances that can do the hard work for them, some are approaching directly to parliamentarians, while others are contesting for the race in order to capture the media attention with a view to becoming a member of the new cabinet. It is evident that no candidates can win the election without the support of parliamentarians; therefore, candidates are aware of the importance of MPs as they are making the ultimate decision. In order to evaluate those front-runners, I have attempted to address their behavior, actions and results, as they are also very important features when it comes to evaluating the success of a leader. However, after discussing with friends I decided not to publish their weaknesses and strengths for obvious reasons. Therefore, I will leave it to you to explore the issue in your own terms. Leadership qualities Leaders have to demonstrate that they are role models and lead by example. Great leaders know that they do not know everything and feel that they can learn from their mistakes and have a willingness to admit mistakes. Great leaders are those who understand the complexity of tasks. Therefore, it is vital that leaders to be flexible and have an open mind. Motivation, persuasion, confidence, assertiveness and mutual respect and other qualities are all very important. The quality and effectiveness of a great leader is inevitable to come out and people will notice by the outcome of their actions. The selection of the right person to be a leader is very important. Great leader recognizes the importance of building a trust and the need to possess excellent communication skills, especially when talking in public, as actions need to match words. If a leader is an approachable, willing to listen and have a policy encouraging participation at all levels will greatly help his/her leadership. I described some of the characteristic features of a leader as: Physical vitality and stamina Intelligence and action-oriented judgment Eagerness to accept responsibility Task competence Understanding of followers and their needs Skill in dealing with people Need for achievement Capacity to motivate people Courage and resolution Trustworthiness Decisiveness Self-confidence Assertiveness Adaptability/flexibility Most of the known Somali leaders do not have the above leadership qualities and it is difficult to find a leader that partly meets the above requirements.
  5. The current Transitional Federal Institutions existed over 7 years without producing an outcome that is acceptable to the people of Somalia. Why Somalia is still not having functioning institutions that can bring peace and stability? This is a genuine question that we all want to know the answer. Despite of this, one of the possible reasons is due to lack of genuine leadership. Somalis currently discuss leadership qualities in every social setting. The question of leadership has emerged as the Transitional Federal Institutions mandate is coming to an end on 20 August 2011. Leadership is vital, to the success of any government or organization and is paramount to our daily life either at work, home or socializing. It is common to hear the rhetoric of Somalis highlighting that high quality leadership is vital to the success of any government or institution. Collins new English dictionary defines “Leader as a person who rules, guides, or inspires others”. If Transitional Federal Institutions agree to hold an election before August 2011, then it is obvious that the current parliament cannot produce a genuine leader that can make a difference to the country. The parliament unilaterally extended its term for 3 years on 3 February 2011, however, the president, the cabinet, the Somali people and the International Community rejected this decision. One of the reasons at least from the International Community was that the decision lacked proper consultation with all stakeholders. The cabinet has also unilaterally agreed to extend their term for 12 months. In any case, all concerned parties agree the urgent need to extend the term of the institution in order to avoid vacuum. They also agree that there is an urgent need to reform the parliament by reducing its number and ensuring to select individuals that are accountable to its people and have credibility to its people. For the last 7 years the parliament never functioned as an institution. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to select leaders that can understand the processes required to produce for an institution.
  6. Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, the embattled of Somali transitional federal government on Monday said that Al shabaab has distinctly failed in Mogadishu’s recent battles. Speaking to one thousand of Somali military forces in Mogadishu’s Halane military base, the president indicated that his troops made god advances in front battles, adding that they killed a number of foreign fighting alongside with that group “You are aware that they (Al shabaab) are experiencing in its weakest time. Our forces are taking new anti Al shabaab actions” said Ahmed. He said that the group which is against Somali government will not last so far, spelling out that they are not representing the interests of Somali people.
  7. More than 30 members from Somalia’s civil society including political leaders, business people, religious leaders, women's group, and journalists have gathered for a meeting, organized by Somalia South Central Non-State Actors (SOSCENSA), in Mogadishu on Thursday and demanded that the warring sides establish Bakara Market as a 'no war zone' and ensure that property and goods are not damaged. The participants focused on the challenges facing Mogadishu's main market after it became the base for the al-Shabaab militant group seeking to control Somalia and now is an epicenter of fighting between the group and the Transitional Federal Government Forces (TFG) of Somalia, supported by African Union peacekeepers (AMISOM). Members who attended the meeting stated they are deeply worried about continuing clashes making the market vulnerable to looting and violence. They further underlined how it is essential to protect the goods in Bakara Market and called on both sides to avoid harming the public assets which belong to Somali people. A/kadir Ibrahim Ga’al Abkow, chairman of the civil society group, spoke to Somalia Report on behalf of the group about their final declaration to safeguard the properties in Bakara Market. "We are calling and saying to the fighting groups like al-Shabaab, the government and AMISOM to stop destroying the civilian’s assets especially in the Bakara Market. It should be protected immediately," said Abkow.

  17. The main problem facing Somalia is inter and intra clan rivalry and fighting. My clan against your clan, my sub-clan against your sub-clan, my village against your village, my family against your family, I against my brother. As long as this problem is not solved, peace will not prevail in Somalia. The world keeps pumping charity into the country. The corrupt leaders steal the contributions (food, medical supplies, etc.) and sell it to the highest bidder. Much of it never hits the streets of Somalia. This charity assures that the gang leaders who rule the country stay in power because anyone who joins their gang lives a better (and longer) life than those who don't. Should we stop be charitable in Somalia?

  19. Lets not forget female genital mutilation,Anyone know why this is? I mean, what evidence could possibly be presented in support of this? It's pre-Islam and has no logic. Supporters say they do it because it's hygienic and inhibits a woman's libido but these are both ridiculous to any thinking person. Anyway, Somali's have been wracked by two decades of civil war. Education takes a back seat to survival in a time like this, so literacy is not a priority. May Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala, guide the brothers and sister there toward true Islam and reconciliation soon.
  20. So, why are they banning this? I know Salafis don't believe in passing on good deeds to the deceased, by at most this would be a difference of opinion, not something to arrest people over.
