What did you have in mind, sxb? When you belittled the logic behind accepting Allah’s attributes as they are and with their literal meaning and, worse yet, equated it with that fabricated myth of trinity, haven’t you challenged us all to defend that theological approach? This thread is about the clash between those who chose subverted logic to defend Allah and those who chose the bounds of revealed knowledge and maintained that imaginations cannot reach Him (to paraphraseTahawi), nor can the intellects understand Him. The attributes of Allah are what they are and we are indeed in a great intellectual deficit to describe it. But that does not mean to deny it nor does it compel us to interpret it to some thing that’s closer to our imagination. In his invaluable theological work, Fiqhul Akbar, Abu Haneefah writes: He has knowledge, but His knowledge is not like our knowledge.., And He sees but it’s not similar to our sight. So tell us saaxiib, how is it that you became so convinced that literal meaning of Allah’s attributes is the epitome of intellectual chicanery?

Hibo, My analogy still holds! But you’re right many confuse creativity with desperation, I concur. The hunting season has indeed begun, and, I guess, it’s all about who can set the trapping snare for those drifting bachelors! @If worst comes to worst, I will just settle for a foreign who doesn't give a dime about my age, with the qualities I want. Oh my Qalanjo sister, God forbid for that to ever happen to you; but your contingency plan should not be to settle for non-nomad alien who’s unable to communicate with your mother tongue. Rather, how about swinging to us the less qualified with little burden on their back!

This thread is reviving an authentic but abandoned nomadic tradition! The practice of hunting eligible (edited) bachelors and cutting many distances to get to them was indeed a culture of ours. They (those who were caught up with that ever-ticking biological clock) used to initiate the journey and embark on a trip full of uncertainties. Usually (I was told) it involved crossing clannish borders which some times meant parachuting behind enemy lines in search for that fateful union! The name Heerin (I stand corrected) was coined for that determined, migrant, and hubby-searching Somali female! Although the Somali literature does not praise their act and some times unfairly associates it with desperation, I think it was not only courageous and daring measure of theirs, but it was also creative and ingenious from their part. And I am beginning to think that ingenuity is not lacking from the inventive minds of our nomadic queens! This thread furnishes that original work with the artistic wonders of technology, me thinks.

I was about to post a lengthy piece about the theological positions of Ahlu-sunnah-wal-Jamah on this very issue based on Immamu Tahawi’s famous work---it’s believed to be one of the best theological work written in the blessed period of the Salaf-a-Saalih. BUT I have to wait Sophist’s take on this! I have to say though, Mutakalim is not presenting new argument here, he’s basically recycling an old and worn out theological argument that had been eloquently addressed by the Mulsim theologians. All he’s doing is to brandish the theology of Ta’wiil and Ta’diil and I suspect he doesn’t mind Tafwiil as well. I liked the topic though, as it has the potential to be an educating one provided we all show some civility in this discussion and restrain from the mere name calling.

I liked your old man’s theory. But (I am afraid) it overly simplifies the complexity of Somali clannish politics; the roots of our political illness. Other than that, I found this as a somber letter from a concerned nationalist full of pregnant words! "Create a class of natural aristocracy cultivating Nobles Oblige," you said? Only if I could possess that imaginative power!

Mutakallim; The two last posts of yours are praiseworthy; the first injects a useful clarification as to why you penned to what amounted to flushing rats out of the woodwork of sort and the latter provides a rational defense to that preferred (I assume) theological position (an established School, I may add) of yours and fortifies it with bunkers of logic and reason. Let me say on the outset, that if one bases his theological argument on sheer reasoning and logic then one would be bounded to adhere to the rules of logic and therefore accept its verdict. On the other hand, it’s not an idiocy to concede to the very inept human intellect as it relates to the essence of God; His attributes, whereabouts, and why He does things the way He does. That’s a knowledge we don’t have. To claim it is unbelieving, to deny it is doubting, and to accept as it’s is the correct way to go about it. لا تأويل ولا تعطيل P.S: I hope you're not solemn about your Christian-Muslim analogy.

Syed Mohamed; the man who envisioned the possibility of Somali republic and fought for it! Mohamed Cawaale, the man who imprinted Syed’s vision in to our national flag. Aden Cadde, the man who defied the logic of Somali/clannish politics and stayed float and above its muddy waters. Simply I couldn’t find match for the contributions of these three men in Somali history.

Dhan walba ood ka fiiriso, nabi Muxammad (scw) wuxuu ahaa shaqsiyad ammaan huwan; a face like his couldn't lie! Waxaase asaga kasii muhiimsan farriintuu xagga sare ka siday; hanuunkii loo sii dhiibey ee loogu tala galay in insaanka lagu bad-baadiyo. Hadba sida hanuunkaa aad u raacdo waxay cabir u tahay inta nabi Muxammad(scw) agtaada ka le'egyahay. Anoo taa tixraacaya, kana duulaya su'aashii gunaanadka u ahayd mawduucan uu sh. Nur noo soo qoray ayyaan isku dayey inaan qiimeeyo bal inta aan hanuunka ka heysto. Tani waa natiijadii ii soo baxday: 1- Caqiidada: yes 2- Xalaasha : yes--way iska sahlanyahay inaad xaalaasha doorato. 3- Xaaraamta: waa adagtahay inaad xaaraanta iska ilaaliso: here lies my problem; inaad ku noolaato in the heart of midwest baa waxay sahlaysaa inaad xaaraan ku dhacdo. Shiddada ugu weyni waxay iga heysataa mucaamalaadka aan la leeyahay dadka, hay'adaha, iyo dawladda. 4-Cibaadaadka: Salaada fajri-ga baa iigu daran. Waxaase iigasii daran Zakada and keeping track of my accounts (I have to do that to know exactly what portion of my assets I should be paying Zakat on). 5-Xajka: I am getting lazy every year that's waa wax khilaafsan Sunnada. Next Time: I will take a close look at my akhlaaqiyaat. Nur, to say many thanks to you doesn't really convey my appriciation of this peace. Xayyaaka- Allah.

The verdict is in: Emulation is a weighty word, which when compiled threw a NoSuchClassFound Exception in Xiinfaniin’s deeds (applications). Disappointment, in its zenith! It sure is. I am conducting a careful debugging in my system as to why my application doesn’t recognize this word. Is it a mere syntactical error or a more serious bug that require revisiting the structure of my system? I hope it's not the latter! Nur any help here, brother?

How much of His Character do you apply? This is a query that’s worthy of a quite and deep pondering! Let me do jsut that and see what I come back with. Much thanks brother.

It was a time of great and exalting excitement. The country was up in arms, the war was on, in every breast burned the holy fire of patriotism the drums were beating, the bands playing, the toy pistols popping, the bunched firecrackers hissing and sputtering on every hand and far down the receding and fading spreads of roofs and balconies a fluttering wilderness of flags flashed in the sun daily the young volunteers marched down the wide avenue, gay and fine in their new uniforms, the proud fathers and mothers and sisters and sweethearts cheering them with voices choked with happy emotion as they swung by nightly the packed mass meetings listened, panting, to patriot oratory which stirred the deepest deeps of their hearts and which they interrupted at briefest intervals with cyclones of applause, the tears running down their cheeks the while in the churches the pastors preached devotion to flag and country and invoked the God of Battles, beseeching His aid in our good cause in outpouring of fervid eloquence which moved every listener. Read on Mark Twain’s classic essay.

@This is another clear reason why it is utterly naive to say that logic has bounds. Logic has limits, indeed! The notion that logic is the ultimate tool to decode the essence of God is fallacious in nature. It erroneously makes the logicians the final arbiters in delivering the verdict of every disputed matter, even in issues beyond their knowledge! Alas, it’s the quirk of fate (I suppose) for our fellow philosopher to accuse others with ill righteousness while raising a voice cracked with emotions!

The issue of the moment: Mogadishu roadblocks
xiinfaniin replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
Very interesting discussion indeed! At least some one’s trying to stand up for the basic principles of governance. And it may as well be that we’re witnessing the turning point of that city’s post civil war history; it’s worthwhile to keep our ears on the ground and follow these initiatives. -
