Stoic, Despite the hype surrounding professor Samatar's political ambition, the man has very young political life ---his Hiilqaran was anchored in a good intention but was fundamentally misguided as he misdiagnosed the fundamental challenges Somalia is facing today. His involvement in recently concluded road map was very brief (today he resigned from his parliamentarian position). However, he had a very effective academic life. So the timing is right for him to chart a new course to play political role in the region he came from to participate in Somali politics.

If he has any political ambition of amounting to something in Somalia, Prof. Samatar would be if fool he doesn't position himself in his home region (current Somaliland) to do the ground work. But that is assuming Samatar wants to be a politician ...

When he visited PL, he prematurely played into Ina Samatar's hands squandering any leverage he had as a former PM. Faroole is a politician and has a very strong coalition behind him, but like Illyria said his weakness is his unpopularity in large part of the region i.e. Mudug and Khatumo

Actually you will be surprised and in a rude awakening if you indeed believe the secession of Somaliland for no such thing will be happening anytime soon. I in principle have no problem if the 3 mothers are let go, but you started with the wrong foot and created a political stalemate where the Hargeysa hype talks about a parallel reality while on the ground the resolve against secession is strong as ever for certain stakeholders.

What is happening in the federal parliament is an effort to influence the talks. Certain political groupings (i.e. Khaatumo) rightly feel that they should have been involved in these talks. So the agreement is between Somalia's president and his government on one hand and that of Somaliland, as you put it. Consider the protest in Mogadishu along the lines of saying we need to know what you guys are talking about from Dr. Ali , and he effectively managed to enlist a large block of MPs , and I think very soon Hassan will have to sit down to at least inform them where things stand.
