^^Afmiinshaar... This is how it will all end. Kismayu: TFG delegation ultimatum to militias..
xiinfaniin replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
^^So you do admit this 'little coup' is tribal in nature? A notion you so hasttly dismissed when this incident was at its prime... This is indeed another egg on tfg's face . Only if the disgruntled militias were principled enough to be some use to the Muqaawamah… -
The Lies of the Times: New York Times Pushes Bush Line on Somalia
xiinfaniin replied to Castro's topic in Politics
Castro & ThePoint, you’re both dancing around the point! ThePoint seems to be on steroids today while Castro is uncharacteristically reserved . The issue of looted properties is one of the major factors of our conflict. But to assert that it’s fueling current standoff in Mogadishu is a bit over the top. This fight in Mogadishu has very little to do, if any, with looted properties, and everything to do with Ethiopia’s military presence. That’s the top issue in this war adeerayaal. -
^^War maxaad ku quslaysaa? Caamir, why oppose the tfg if there’s no alternative, you asked. Consider the followings adeer: 1- tfg is no longer a legitimate government since it failed its cardinal function of reconciling the parties of Somali conflict. 2- Tfg has become an anti-Islam tool and is used by the enemies of the Somali people. 3- Tfg has engaged in a campaign of destroying what’s left of the Somali capital and has shown an utter indifference to the suffering of Mogadishu’s residents. So talk about the day after tomorrow, and how to manage the fallouts and the legacy of this failed project adeer if you so desire but waste not your time about this tfg thing….

^^ Very sarcastic indeed yaa camel packer! But mocking aside, I need your two cents adeer..

These meetings are useful for the fighting sides. It’s kind of a break.

Tfg is losing. Ethiopia is losing. America is losing. But none of them have lost yet. They are not going to die quietly, and without putting up a fierce and destructive fight. In fact, they’ve already shown that they intend to spare no soul that stands in their way. Yet you can see that they are frustrated by the resolve of those who oppose them. After destroying so many lives and properties, they have no progress to report. More people and countries are beginning to see their wicked ways, and even more are vocally speaking out against their approaches. So one can safely predict that this war is not sustainable for them in the long run, and they have been unable to exact swift win against their opponents. They were lured and enticed, and they come with a noticeable enthusiasm to finish off the remnants of the Islamic Courts. Now they are trapped and boxed. There are no shortcuts for them to cut this war. In short, they’ve lost in many ways already, and IA they will [edit] be defeated spectacularly. Soon! But absence of a tangible after war policy, this looming historical win could be squandered again. Those who are confronting with the real enemy and facing at the Ethiopian tanks have shown a unique Somali bravery. They’ve skillfully fought against a resourceful enemy. They’ve, as we all know, been good for resisting, fighting, destroying and humbling this collection of thugs. They are not known, however, to be good at reconciling tribal feuds that are political in nature. In fact they are inadequate in many ways. And that begs the question: what are the strategy and the plan to hold the country together after Ethiopias defeat? Who’s going to gather Somalia’s desperate regions? There are no known leaders that command required political leadership. Aweys, Sharif, and Adow are all good, and perhaps the best of what this movement currently has but they don’t seem to have the platform nor the framework to manage such a colossal project of erecting a government after the void of this regime. Furthermore since last year’s setback, they haven’t been speaking with the same voice, based on their pronounced strategy. Some have been courting tribal alliances, and understandably have been careful to depict this fight as a Court’s fight. Others however have been distancing themselves from that strategy and owning up the real tasks of this war. There is a missing element of cohesion in their political outlook. And that brings me to another question: how do you picture the day after tomorrow? After the tfg collapses, as it seems to be fated for, who’s going to fill the void? Armed shabaabs? New collections of Diaspora politicians? What about the regions beyond Xamar? If you sense that my thoughts are bit pregnant, you are not wrong. They are. Maxaad oran lahay Suudi ?

In light of Zenawi’s press conference today, wouldn’t it be nice if we could change the title of this thread and name it “Zenawi’s desperate shouts”. Geedi’s cries were just mere echoes of Zenawi’s…

^^That's a bit simplistic yaa Redka. Garaad, can easily be satisfied. He's not asking much. Leave what's his, and he wont bother you. The problem lies with people like Xiin. Aniga iyo kooxdayda dadka wax badan uma ogalin. Go'iddoo dhan baa shiddo nagu haysa !

^^ Since the Dahar setbacks, most secessionist brothers, and some sisters too , have been speaking with grammatical riddles! Come again yaa Suldaanka! I understand your passion for Somaliland’s case but it’s high time for you and your likeminded folks to reexamine that project, study its feasibility, and tweak your strategies adeer.

Both Somaliland and Puntland are Ethiopian clients regions. As things stand now, it just not Ethiopia's interest for these to semi-stable regions to start a conflict of choice. So the said looming war seems to be hyped and exaggerated. Silanyo’s calling though, if there is a one, is for him to challenge the secessionist movement in Somaliland. It’s not that simple…and I doubt he will rise to the occasion.

The fact Ethiopian forces are overstretched and bogged down in Mogadishu gives ONLF fighters unprecedented advantage. They need to make use of this opportunity. This incident will give them the media exposure they always wanted. It will highlight the plight of ****** region. It’s possible that those Chinese citizens who were caught in the crossfire, and subsequently got killed, were highly skilled engineers and experts. As a result, Ethiopia will probably suffer a credibility problem, and China will think long and hard before it sends its citizens to remote areas in ****** again. That will halt the oil exploration Ethiopia so desperately wanted going. If that happens, it will be a win for the resistance in that region. Also since Ethiopia has been getting positive appraisals from the west after its illegal invasion in Somalia, this incident steals Ethiopia’s moment of fame and highlights the ethnic divisions and armed struggles within it, which so many Western states conveniently tend to forget.

I respect these ONLF fighters...they lay low and strike real hard. It's effective that way.

How do you expect legitimacy fighting against this?

Scores die in Ethiopia oil attack Rebel gunmen have killed at least 74 people in an attack on an oil field in Ethiopia's remote Somali region, the Ethiopian government says. Sixty-five Ethiopians and nine Chinese oil workers were killed, while seven Chinese were also taken captive in the incident, an official said. Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi called it a cold-blooded "massacre". A spokesman for a separatist group, the ****** National Liberation Front, said it had launched the attack. The clashes took place at an oil field in Abole, a small town about 120km (75 miles) from the regional capital, Jijiga. "Something of a massacre has happened," Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said. "It was a cold-blooded murder, we are pursuing the perpetrators and will see to it that it doesn't happen again." An adviser to the prime minister, Berekat Simon, blamed the ONLF, which he said had the backing of the Eritrean government. A spokesman for the ONLF in London, Abdirahman Mahdi, said Ethiopian troops had been forcing nomadic tribes to leave their traditional grazing areas. "Because of that we had to take action," he said. "We have warned the Chinese government and the Ethiopian government that... they don't have a right to drill there," he told the BBC's Focus on Africa programme. "Unfortunately nobody heeds our warning and we have to defend our territorial integrity." He disputed the government's figures, saying seven Chinese were killed and five seized. The captives were not being treated as hostages and would be handed over to appropriate authorities, he said. "We will treat humanely all those under our protection." A Chinese oil worker said about 200 gunmen attacked the field. The workers were employed by the Zhongyuan Petroleum Exploration Bureau, part of China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation, China's Xinhua news agency reported. Gunmen briefly took control of the field after a 50-minute fire fight with soldiers protecting it, Xu Shuang, a manager for the oil group, told the agency. Violent politics In recent years, China has been working to increase its influence and investment in Africa as it looks to secure energy supplies for the future. The Somali region - known locally as the ****** - is known for its often violent clan politics, the BBC's Amber Henshaw reports from Addis Ababa. The ONLF has in the past made threats against foreign companies working with the Ethiopian government to exploit the region's natural resources. The ONLF has been waging a low-level insurgency with the aim of breaking away from Ethiopia. The incident will also step up tensions in the region, which borders Somalia - where there are often clashes between Ethiopian troops and Islamists, our correspondent adds.
