Baashe, why do you think Mogadishu of all places, a city that lies in ruins and lacks basic security, is proposed to hold the conference? Perhaps to control the outcome and dictate the terms?

I think Hiiraale’s stock has correctly depreciated as soon as the powers that be realized his was no more than a brief warlord boom! I just cant see the connection between him and Kismayo. Not to forget that he is not the first warlord that lost in the game; Jees and Morgan were thrown to the sharks before him. The only difference is the fact that this warlord seems to be an undisputed leader for his tribe. That itself, though sad and unfortunate in many ways, is not unique in the current Somali politics! But I must agree with Nuune that this is very interesting development in the southern context. A warlord who brought his community along in support of Ethiopian invasion and Yeys support is easily sacrificed…and more importantly forced to accept his demotion!

But our pessimism as far as America delivering a unity government, or any government for that matter, for Somalia goes, is well founded!
