U.S expresses optimism about Somali reconciliation conference The United States on Friday expressed optimism that the Somalia national reconciliation conference would take place next month despite recent setbacks which have resulted in delays. U.S. Ambassador to Kenya Michael Ranneberger said Washington has released 1.25 million U.S. dollars to fund the July 15 reconciliation conference, saying it was the best chance for the transitional government to chart out its democratic future for decades. "We believe the National Reconciliation Congress represents a historic opportunity for the Somali people to come together to address the issues that have divided them for so many years and to move forward the transitional process," Ranneberer told journalists in Nairobi. He urged the transitional government to make the conference inclusive by reaching out to the country's recently ousted Islamic militants to prevent the war-ravaged nation from returning to the clan-based violence and anarchy that has characterized the country since 1991. But Ranneberger said Washington was not surprised the conference was delayed, saying "it was understandable given the logistical constraints and the pace of time they were trying to organize it." The reconciliation conference was due to start on Thursday but was postponed for one month on Wednesday. Source: Xinhua

^I believe that you are on to someting here yaa camel boy . Kismayo’s best days in the last sixteen days were realized when the wadaads were ruling it. Save from few politically disgruntled folks and noisy qaad merchants, the city was slowly but surely recovering from its dark days it spent under the southern warlord rule. Xasan turk did what many failed to do; he started to evict looters from the premises they took by force. I said here then on these boards that his original justice will be forever remembered. There were few minor slips here and there, but when measured as a whole the man and his admin were mercy on the people of Kismayo. Those who oppose then opposed him because they didn’t like the justice he brought to the city, and I am NOT talking about politics here. They were primarily the remnants of the coalition that held the city before the Courts took over. No admin will sit well with those who have the mentality of ruling…just for the name of it as long they don’t see themselves in the picture. To associate current militia with any cause is really missing the point in the whole saga. As I corrected brother Kashafa on this I really don’t see any value in building alliances with known thugs. Today the issue of Kismayo is totally on a different level. I don’t even believe is clannish anymore. I think it’s just armed militia that happens to be in a big city with no authority to restrain them. They kill and rob indiscriminately. They are just fending for themselves, as they are not regularly paid soldiers. Of course if attacked they will defend themselves and the members of their kin, but that’s just being Somali and not necessarily an indication of politically organized group that have an agenda for the city. Besides they always say, or their spokespersons say, that they don’t oppose this tfg.

This is a lively discussion, unusually so. JB is explaining things just like humans do, for instance, and not throwing his mechanical replies ! I liked it, not only because of my literary mentor, saga Sharmarke, is involved, but also it was departure from sl soler’s closing the rank tendency. Only if the subject, that’s debated here, were more of Somaliland’s strategic direction, and not on a mere political personalities and parties. Sadex farood iyo suul, ikhyaarta. -
^^Not litterally wasted but he got zero returns for all the hyped articles he composed in support of Somaliland's indepedence bid, maaha?

Originally posted by Dabshid: The era of Xaraan Ku naax is over. ^^That's bold statement yaa Dabka. Are you sure though or it's just emotionally induced? ps--Xasan Daahir walaalkiis and what he did or did not do hardly represents the cause of the Islamic Courts.

Duke is fighting in many fronts these days. A certain persistent Mr. Brown is holding him on to account for every thing he wrote on these pages! The conference has once again been delayed, and Ali Mahdi being the man spearheading it, the reasons for this latest delay has been poorly stated. The Duke is trying to fill Ali Mahdi’s cracks here. Mogadishu’s security is deteriorating. Kismayo is slipping away, and a hostile militia has taken Qoryooley. And all of that going, and you expect Duke to comment on this one yaa nuune? War ninka faraha ha laga qaado ikhyaarey!

At times I am completely stoic, and quite indifferent for the fate of those who raped the Somali republic, ransacked its national treasures, amassed wealth in the expense of the poor and weak, and somehow thought that they outplayed other Somalis based on their sheer tribal muscle. Amongst the leaders of that cursed bunch is Caato. Here Caato complains, quite loudly, about the mistreatment he received from the invading army. Now that his foot is in the other shoe, I can’t stop wondering about what he thinks about those he wronged, killed, caused their exodus, and collected enormous wealth during their suffering… In the words of Sayid in his praise of the dhidar, Hyena, that reportedly ate the corpses of the enemy’s dead, Gunnaan sii lahaan iyo goor iyo ayyaane’e

Resistance in Kismayo, eh? By their own admission, Kismayo’s militia does not represent a resistance---that’s what Geedi and co unsuccessfully depicted them to be. It was far from the truth, and it failed to stick. Disgruntled? Yes. But that they are resistance is just not true. Who are they resisting against yaa Kashafa? A particular clan who, they admit they want to reconcile with? The tfg whose authority and tacit permission they control the city? The Ethiopians, who are no longer there? The resistance is there. No denying it. There's tribal elements in them. NO denying that either. But there is some communication and understanding between the tribal elements and the leaders of the Islamic fighters. There are some common goals to achieve. But it’s utterly wrong to associate every dissatisfied group with resistance adeer, it supposed to be nobler than that.

^taladu mar hore ayey faraha ka baxday Sharmaarkow. But in the words of Xasan Kharaab, sida gartu uu indha xuntahay uma Alla la'a, and perhaps as we once witnessed a new shoot of hope, though it was instantly put down, coming out of the south, Allah may send another rescue team to salvage us from this mess. Nin nooli ma quusto~~

Zafir, i give it to you adeer. I think it was Blake who wrote without contraries is no progression. Thusly, only with Qammaan's famous singature poem could we describe you in fullness. Here it's: Mar baan ahay muddeec camalsanoo, maagista aqoone; Marna macangag laayaan ahoo, miiggan baan ahaye. Mar baan ahay muftiga reerkiyo, mudanow shiikhiiye; Marna mukhawi waashoo khamriga, miista baan ahaye. Mar baan ahay murtiyo baanisaba, madaxda reeraaye; Oy weliba muuno iyo dulqaad, igu maj-e-er-taane; Marna reer magaal loofaroon, muuqan baan ahaye. Mar baan ahay nin xaaran maqdac ah, marin jidiinkiise; Marna tuug mu'diya baan ahoo, maal Rasuul bixine. Mar baan ahay maqaan awliyaad, maqaddinkoodiiye; Marna mudanka shayddaanka iyo, maal jin baan ahaye. Mar baan ahay nin midabaynayoo, maalinbays roga'e; Muuqaygu gelinkiiba waa, muunad gooniya'e; Miisaanna ima saari karo, qof i maleeyaaye. Muslinkiyo gaalada dirkaba, waan micne aqaane Malaa'iigta Naartiyo Jannada, waygu murantaaye. Mahadhooyin kala kaan ahoo, la igu maansheeyey Maahmaahahaan soo dulmaray, doqoni waa mooge; Ninkii maalmo badan soo jiraye, madaxu boosaystay Ee inan rag miisaami jirey, wuu i maan garane. Nin kastaw halkii kula macaan ay, muhato laabtaadu Ee aanad madadaaladeed, igala maarmaynnin Iska soo mar waa kuu mubaax, marinkaad doonto'e! And by B. W. Andrzejewski's translation of the last two stanzas, repeat these lines after me yaa Zafir: If either of the paths I follow Takes your fancy and delights your heart, Or even if you cannot bear to lose The entertainment I provide, Then come to me along the path - You're free to make a choice!

^Be fair to Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio as well. But Hagel of Nebraska is the one who had the most memorable stances on the issues of Palestine and Lebanon. When Israel attacked Lebanon last year and the America’s amen corner rushed their famous stampede in support of Israel’s aggression war, it was Chuck Hagel who stood up and opposed it. It was then he uttered his famous words: "Our relationship with Israel is special and historic, but it need not and cannot be at the expense of our Arab and Muslim relationships. That is an irresponsible and dangerous false choice." And on Palestine, Hagel always insisted on the often ignored fact (in America anyway) that in the center of Middle East ills is the Palestinian tragedy. We can genuinely try solving it now while we can or we ignore it on our own peril. I consider him one of few voices of reason in the American congress (elderly Robert Byrd of W. Virginia has certainly been a lone voice against Bush's reckless foreign policy even longer before anyone understood its ominous nature ). Other than that I agree with Socodka on his point of the utter similarity between the two dominant parties in America’s political landscape. -
^^Burco and Gaalkacyo have some similarities. But both dont admit it. Xanthus, thanks for sharing your trip's stories!
