NG's answer: Originally posted by NGONGE: A five-year-old, with the best will in the world, will not understand the meaning or the significance of the hijab. He/She is not obliged to wear the hijab, so what is with the insistence on making them wear it? Xiin: but NG the point is not about understanding the significance of Hijaab. The point is to expose that five-year old to the Hijaab! If you think that early exposure will not make any difference, then you are in for a heated debate...
  6. ^^That was what the Jabbuuti deal you opposed was all about, Abti!
  7. Letter to the members of the Somali Diaspora Nairobi, 12 June 2008 Asalaam Aleikum: At the outset, I would like to thank you all for your patriotic support for the Somali peace agreement which was initialed in Djibouti on 9 June 2008. I received many phone calls and emails expressing backing for the agreement and the consensus that was reached between the Parties. There is still much work to be done. Your country would sincerely appreciate your help in persuading the international community that they will now need to provide full practical support as promised. This is especially true if we are to ensure that the Parties keep to their promises particularly for setting up an international stabilization force and ensuring humanitarian access. The Parties themselves called for the international community to provide adequate resources for the Agreement. We will be working hard to organize the Joint Security Committee and the High Level Committee as well as the conference on political cooperation, Justice and Reconciliation and the one on Reconstruction and Development outlined in the Agreement. These are crucial for the success of the peace efforts. There are high hopes that this will be the beginning of Somalia regaining its sovereignty, independence and pride. As many of you will recall, in the past it was Somalia that was instrumental in helping reconciliation between Bangladesh and Pakistan after the 1971 war with Sheikh Mujibur Rehman being brought to Lahore in the Somali Foreign Minister’s plane to attend the Organization of Islamic Conference summit in Pakistan. It also helped to broker peace between Tanzania and Uganda. We would like to see Somalia regain its role as a responsible, respected nation that can act as peace maker. We have had a long dark night which has lasted 18 years. We must now all do our best to put this nightmare behind us and look forward to a new beginning. Yours Faithfully Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah
  8. NO.THIS.HAS.NOT.BEEN.TRIED.BEFORE. Tell us when Courts and TFG ever signed a peace deal like this one? You see Redka while the only quandary you face in your life in the land of the brave is to choose between two equally lovely girls, tens of thousands of your people back home in the south face death & life decisions in a daily bases. They have been through hell adeer, and they need some measure of peace. Most people want to get back to their homes and go on to raise their children. That’s the kind of opportunity innocent Somalis don’t have, and desperately want to get it. And that’s what this agreement may ultimately deliver. What are meaningless to the affected innocents are the Diaspora pens like yours who treat this shacbis tragedy as a peace of literary drama and produce scathing critiques, and babble with empty threats from afar! Horta yuu Shariif matelaa, they rhetorically ask! Lest you did not notice yet, the resounding answer to that silly question has been: US. Anaguu na matelaa. Sharif and his team, represent the real interest of shacbu suumaal---and the shacbu knows adeer. Adeer sacuudigaa la tegi, oo waa lasoo ducaysan, oo Ilaah ba lasoo baryi inuu dalka nabad ka dhego, oo carabtaa lasoo tuugi bal inay isku dayyaan isku kaayaa keenaan. In short wax walba oo soomaali lagu heli karo waa lasyku dayyaya yaa Redka… Even though only Allah knows how these clauses will be implemented, the possibility of peace and the shoot of hope that come down on us from Jabbuuti can not be denied! Dismissing it only shows what your priorities are and where your concerns lie!
  9. This is a great news. Somalis desparetely need Saudi's help on this. And that the King called somali parties to the holy land is a good news.
  10. ONLF senses that victory is around the corner! Allow guulee…
  11. A day will come when Ethiopia is reduced to an insignificant client for her giant neighbor, Somalia! Inta ka horreysa, ha iska kaayo cunto intaan gurigeenna hagaajinayno...
  12. Kashafa, one of us is following his hawaa, laa shaka. What makes you think the culumaa who gathered in Jabbuuti, including Janaqow , Caddow, Caynte, Shariif, and other respected schollars all got it wrong, while few shabaabs oo xiniinyo ka buuxaan laakiin aan xikmad lahayni are the only ones who GET IT? You see brother, do you think I forgot who hastened the defeat and the clausal loss of the victory al shacbu suumaal won last year? What happened to Islamic Courts, will never happen again. IA. Few shabaabs drunk with confidence will never be allowed inay nagu khammaaraan mar labaad... si fiican u qaniin arrintaa yaa Kashafa! ***I am done wiht this tread***
  13. Castro, 1)The talks were not all-inclusive. A major player (may be the second biggest player) was not a signatory to the agreement. Al shabaabs was not signatory to this agreement. Most people understand why alshabaab did not participate in Jabbuuti peace talks. Simply put, alshabaabs’ goals for Somalia are neither realistic nor sensible at this juncture of Somali history. The ideological rift between Courts political and military wings have always been there. In the end, it became apparent that the two are no longer compatible moving forward! One side wanted the return of some semblance of governance even if they are not the one leading it as long she is sovereign and independent enough. The other side thinks that vision is too narrow and wants to roll back Ethiopia’s influence and troop presence in Somalia TODAY. THIS MOMENT. Oh it also wants to get rid off all the DABODHILIFS, as soon as it defeats Ethiopia. No compromise, period! Alshabaab have denounced the notion of sitting down with TFG. It threatens the UN troops now… If you meant to say Sh. Xassan should have been a signatory to this agreement, I agree. But the good Sheekh made tactical errors again by opposing efforts leading to the Jabbuuti meeting. Also there is unfair terrorist charges that continue to hang on sheikhs head, so he can’t travel as leisurely as he would liked. The logistics for him was no there. In all the voices that opposed this conference, the Sheekh is the only one I have deep sympathy for his position because I understand where he is coming from. Have I liked him onboard with this agreement? Absolutely. Will I continue to give him the benefit of the doubt in his public pronouncements against this deal? Sure. Do I think he is right on this? Not at all! In the final analysis Somalia, in my mind, is more important than one or few groups! If Sh. Sharif as a result of this deal achieves the complete of withdrawal of Ethiopian forces from our soil, I think even alshabaabs will not have a good reason to continue the fight… 2) The time lines and the wishful "sufficient" UN troops by the deadline is a near impossibility. You are being overly pessimistic here. None of the clauses in this agreement is impossible. What’s unfeasible in my mind is the notion that a continuous violence in the midst of your cities and towns will result the withdrawal of Ethiopian forces, an Ethiopia that’s supported by the powers that be, that is! As I said before 4 months will expire in no time. Whether this agreement works or fails time will tell. To be cautious in anything is wise. But what’s not warranted I think is this flood of negativity coming from Kashafa’s camp… What do they really want?
  14. I tried to duck, NG, but the man charged right down into my trench... Libaax Alamtara soo dhaaf bay maraysaa awoowe... edit: Castro,, can you sum up your objection to this agreement?
  15. ^^What are you suggesting waryee? Man up, and tell us why you think xiin and many others support this deal. It's fair to say that most somalis can wait 4 months to see if this deal materializes. they have waited close to 20 years, and we pray this bears fruits. ps...It does not please me to see good Kashafa transitioning to zero simply because Somali parties signed a peace deal. That's really sad!
  16. NGONGE, awoowe waqti badan ma hayyo laakiin let me say few things. Few months ago, some people thought that somalis will never sit down, and agree on something. Well, today somali parties met and agreed on something. Yet, it's a start. It's not complete. What it represents though is a begining of new politics. Sharifs and co are no longer isolated. They have revived thier role in shaping, or playing a role to shape, what somalia will look like for the years to come. They are part of the team that will write the terms of conditions, if you will, of how Ethiopia will withdraw and what powersharing scheme will be right to remedy the injustices of the past. To me that is a great milestone. I have no crystal ball, as Castro claims he has, but my common sense tells me if this agreement results in the withdrawal of Ethiopian troops, the dynamics of Somali conflict will fundamentally change. One can always comeback and retort that Ethiopia will never withdraw. But throughout the course of this conflict we heard assertions, or similar prophecies that time refused to validate or honor. 4 months will expire in no time. But those who lack the power of positive thinking or have no patience or just somehow have no consideration to the humanitarian side of this conflict will always and consistently find excuses to oppose any peaceful settlement of the Somali conflict. If you read what those who oppose this conflict write, you don’t find any alternative path to this conflict. Theirs is more wars, more violence, and endless threats. And I don’t find such positions appealing at all. Others like me, on the other hand, say that this is a good step, and a source for hope for Somalia. Of course much will depend on how it gets implemented, especially whether Ethiopian troops will withdraw in a timely fashion. There will be another meeting in Saudi Arabia I heard so the details of these implementations can be further discussed… Anyways saaxiib, time will tell IA.
  17. You got 1& 2 wrong adeer. I am short on time but suffice to say that this is a historic moment in somali history, and only shortsighted folks will fully oppose it. JIS is essentailly sharif's men, they are financed by xarakatul Ictisaam which is fully on board with Sharif Ahmed... You are righ on #3. Alshabaab may very well oppose as they said many times. But they will be extremely ineffective as they the shacb begins to harvest this deals fruits. The Kindom of Saudi Arabia will show its financial and political muscles at the end of next month, and back this deal. TFG will no longer have the free hand it had before, and Sharif's team will be more responsible actors and continue to learn how to interact with the International community, and SOMALIA will be better for it. Indhayare, dhashiike, and co and those with similar attributes will continue to shout from the sidelines...and the caravan of common sense will move forward albeit ever slowly...
  18. ^^Your seduction gestures are noted yaa Castro! What better way is there though to mark the comeback of one of SOL's great personalities...

  20. Somali factions sign peace deal Monday, June 09, 2008 NAIROBI (Reuters) - Somalia's interim government signed a peace deal on Monday with some opposition figures at U.N.-led talks in Djibouti that had looked on the brink of failure, a U.N. official said. Hopes had dimmed after both delegations refused for days to meet face-to-face to discuss ways of ending 18 years of conflict that have racked the Horn of Africa nation. "We have a peace deal," an aide to the U.N. envoy for Somalia, Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, told Reuters by telephone. The details of what had been signed were not immediately clear. But hardline members of Somalia's opposition had denounced other opposition figures who took part in the meetings, casting doubt on the implementation of any agreement. Late on Sunday, Ould-Abdallah told reporters he had decided to end the talks. The sticking point was said to be the presence of Ethiopian troops in Somalia helping the government fight Islamist-led insurgents. Source: Reuters, June 09, 2008
